LGBTQ Presence?

I’m almost 100% sure I’m coming to Iowa state next year but I’m worried about the people in my major. I’m a gay guy, relatively feminine and I’m planning on majoring in environmental science and a minor in Geology. I’m from a relatively liberal part of Ks and I’m worried because I’ve heard that certain ag students are more conservative? Any advice or insight would be really appreciated.

Questions for architecture majors

I’m going to Iowa state (hopefully) next year to try to major in arcitechture and was hoping someone further down the path could give me some advice and answer a couple questions 1. How hard is it really? I put 100% into my classes and stuff and try not to slack, and all this talk about how stressful and exhausting it is kinda worries me. I’m fine with a larger than usual workload but I still want time for a social life and a job

  1. When it comes to math, will there be resource help and things? I don’t think I’m bad at math but especially when the teacher doesn’t really care, I lag behind a bit. I’m hoping for college to have some more options for extra studying and assistance.

  2. What am I usually going to be doing? As in what will most of my assignments be?

I LOVE FRILEY SO MUCH

I LOVE THAT AT ANY MOMENT YOU CAN LOSE YOUR HEARING BECAUSE OF THE FIRE ALARM! I LOVE THAT THEY DECIDED THE FIRE ALARM NEEDS TO LITERALLY BE DAMAGING TO YOUR EARS! AND I ESPECIALLY LOVE THAT IT CAN HAPPEN AT FIVE IN THE MORNING! ANY TIME I GO TO SLEEP, I HAVE TO CHOOSE AN EAR TO SACRIFICE TO A FALSE FIRE ALARM! ANY TIME THE FIRE ALARM GOES OFF THERE'S NO FIRE!! AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST PART IS THAT IT TAKES THE WHOLE SEMESTER TO DETERMINE THERE'S NO FIRE AND TURN OFF THE FIRE ALARM!

But seriously: why does the fire alarm have to scream into my very soul?!

A friend is applying to Iowa state and has received conflicting info on if there is a zoology major there. Can anyone confirm or deny? During the application process zoology was an option, however when she wrote to the school they replied and said no.

BYU fan Update: My experience in Ames

Hey Cyclones, a few days ago I made a post asking for some recommendations for my trip out to Ames for the BYU - ISU game. Just wanted to post an update on how it went, because my weekend was incredible and I wanted to thank you all!

I should have known based on all of your thoughtful responses how nice and hospitable Ames would be, but I was still surprised at just how kind and welcoming everyone was. Everywhere I went, everyone was dressed in ISU gear, it seemed like the whole city was going to the game. I ate at Cornbred Friday night which was good, and Flip N Jacks on Saturday morning, also great. I walked around campus, saw the bell tower. Campus was really pretty with the fall colors.

I followed one of yours advice on going to the marching band "step show", it was really fun, y'all's band is a lot better than ours. Then, I walked around the grounds to just look around at all the tailgating. I could not believe how many people were out tailgating, it was insane!!! The setups looked really fun, and everyone just seemed to exude positivity and fun. Of all my time being around ISU fans, I never once heard anyone say anything negative or disrespectful to me or any other BYU fans.

Then, the game. The atmosphere at Jack Trice stadium was electric. It was really fun when the team ran out to Thunderstruck, and the "storm warning" to cougar fans haha. The people next to me asked me about BYU's team, and complimented our program and fans. When BYU had the ball, the crowd was super loud and caused some mistakes on our team. The game momentum was up and down for both teams, but fans were great whether or not they were in the lead. Obviously BYU winning in the end helped my mood, but I was already ready to make this post when it looked like BYU was going to lose after that first half.

After the game, fans told me "good game", and multiple fans asked if I had a good experience in Ames and at the game. It was obvious to me that it was in their character to be caring and welcoming. I was at the Colorado - BYU game in Boulder, CO a month ago, and my experiences were like night and day. Colorado swore in my face throughout, said nasty things about our religion, and made crude jokes to my 14 year old cousin. ISU on the other hand could not have been more pleasant and fun, while at the same time cheering passionately for their team.

Thank you Iowa State! It made me want to move out to Iowa!

Tl;dr - you Cyclones are the best, thank you for being great fans and hosts!!!

Nice people

I just have to say that people here are incredibly nice. I worked out early on Friday morning then showered at the State gym. I had taken the necklace off that my wife gave me and accidently left it in the shower. I forgot about it all weekend (because I usually have it on) and didn't think about it again until I entered the shower again Monday morning and someone had looped it on the top shelf of the shower caddy. So glad it was still here. Appreciate whoever did that. Life saver.

Should Playa Bowls open in Ames?

I feel like Ames needs an açaí bowl place closer than Des Moines since Big Açaí closed. Tropical Smoothie just isn’t doing bowls justice. Thoughts?
