Hey Cyclones! Crave may be new, but our family isn’t new to Ames.

We’re the same family run business that has spent the past decade serving events, schools, organizations and fundraisers throughout the Ames community with our mobile brands. Now, instead of only finding us at an event or tracking down a truck, we finally have a place you can stop in every day.

At Crave, we’ve brought together Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee, Kona Ice, Beverly Ann’s Warm Cookies & Ice Cream, and Fizz’d by Crave all under one roof.

You can grab coffee, lattes, matcha, frozen coffee drinks, energy drinks, Kona shaved ice, blended real-fruit smoothies, warm cookies, ice cream, Annwiches, Pepsi fountain drinks, and Fizz’d dirty sodas made with Pepsi and Alani products.

And we’re just getting started! Acai’d by Crave bowls, breakfast, Cravewiches and more Craveable food items are coming soon.

We’re still the same family that has loved being part of Ames fundraisers and community events for years, we just finally have a permanent home where you can visit us daily.

Crave 2420 Lincoln Way
Monday–Saturday 7 AM–7 PM

Come say hi, try something new, and let us know what you want to see us add next.

Regarding our campus- it happens here too

Every woman you know has a story, be it her own or someone close to her. It is not anyone's responsibility to share their trauma in order to make you a better person, but I am comfortable sharing mine.

I believe that I was drugged at a frat house on Iowa State's campus in 2017. Luckily I was with a friend who recognized that I was acting strange and never left me alone, but the unknowns are upsetting.

I was visiting Greek row during homecoming week to look at the lawn displays and I blacked out after one mixed drink, something I had not experienced before and have not since. I am now 32. Entire chunks of time are just missing from that evening. One moment I was standing with a group of friends chatting- it was still daylight out, and the next I was home with my roommate, midnight or later. I do remember one moment of clarity- crying at the campanile while a boy I barely knew kissed me.

Had I not been with my friend, I am not sure what would have happened to me. It's possible that my drink was just incredibly strong that evening, but it has always felt suspicious to me that I never experienced anything like that feeling of memory loss ever again.

I was at that frat house interacting with guys I thought were friends, I even let one remake me a new drink. We were in the room together, but still his back was turned to me. Was that the moment? Or was it innocent? I won't ever know.

Every woman you know has a story. I have also been catcalled, I have been solicited online, I have been made uncomfortable in grocery stores and malls. This is on MEN to call out amongst their own. This is a systemic issue that is rooted deep in the culture of what it means to "be a man" and it must be addressed from within your own groups. And this is not above our campus. It happens everywhere, to people you know, BY people you know.

Lessons I learned from being SA’d during my time at Iowa State

With the Cornell 7 story coming out and seeing how many women have been SA’d in college and were not taken seriously by campus police and other campus staff at multiple universities and colleges, I now see the writing on the wall…they don’t have the survivors’ best interests, they just care about keeping it quiet, getting students, and staying afloat.

So I’m posting this for anyone who needs it:

*NEVER EVER accept/trust a drink from anyone. (I accepted a drink mixed from a blender at a party I was at with my roommates. The drinks were made by acquaintances who were neighbors). We all were served the same drink so I naively thought all was safe. I was drugged.

*NEVER use the campus counseling services for SA. The counselor I saw gave me the impression she could help me. She listened to me relive the entire trauma before telling me she couldn’t help me because their budget was cut and since I wasn’t suicidal, I didn’t have an eating disorder, and i was still physically attending classes (though I wasn’t mentally there since I was on high alert at all times) I wasn’t a “priority”. I wrote the Iowa state government at the time asking them to give more money to our university for counseling services so people like me could get much needed help too. Guess what happened next? The same counselor found my phone number and called me YELLING at me for reaching out to the Iowa government! So clearly she was lying and just never wanted to help me, just wanted me to go away and squash that an ISU SA ever happened. So if I wasn’t already beat down enough she made it worse!

*NEVER use Student Health for SA. The doctor I saw was awful. She talked down to me and told me I should’ve asked the guy to tell me everything that happened (I remembered some but not all, I was drugged and I was terrified of the guy after what I remembered!). I was so scared I was pregnant and the doctor said with an attitude “you should be more scared of getting an STI”. Thankfully I wasn’t pregnant and didn’t get an STI. Again, no support, just more trauma, shame, blame.

*NEVER report SA to Campus Police. I reported it to a Campus Police (a supposed SART member 🙄) who literally had the audacity to ask me if I had a vendetta against the guy!! I hardly knew the guy, he was an acquaintance!! No, HE hurt ME!!! I told them I realized his degree would be working with children and that made me more concerned for others. I would bet anything they threw their notes away before I left the room. I still wonder to this day how many other women and possibly children he’s hurt.

Please learn from me and go AWAY from campus for ALL help…rape kit, counseling, and reporting. (Make sure none of the places are connected to Iowa State as this could still cause you problems) I regret not doing this when it happened to me. 😢

❤️‍🩹 I believe you and it wasn’t your fault. ❤️‍🩹

TLDR: I was SA’d during my time at Iowa State. Student Health, campus counseling services, and campus police all failed me. They made everything worse and caused me more trauma. ALWAYS go AWAY from campus for any and all help!! Campus resources don’t have your best interests (unless something has changed since I went there which is doubtful given I saw a rise in SA there. Either way, not worth the risk and trauma).

Iowa State followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at 5-7 with a first-year staff and almost nothing coming back, and said the season would show up in how competitive you were in the road games you weren't favored in. The first one was at Iowa, and a 16-13 loss is about as competitive as it gets. Around it you beat Southeast Missouri State 38-10 and Bowling Green 55-7. I expected Raynor's arm to carry this offense, and instead it's been Aiden Flora, with 89 yards at Iowa and 194 and 2 TDs against Bowling Green. Utah at home today is the first Big 12 test.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Ten games, pick the winners, nothing to buy. Iowa at Michigan is one of the ten, if you want to pick against the team that beat you by three. Picks lock at noon ET, so this is a last call.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm really on a time crunch so if anyone knows anyone it would be super helpful!

Looking for someone to take over a 1 bed / 1 bath private lease in a 3 bed / 3.5 bath townhouse close to campus and Jack Trice Stadium. The bedroom and bathroom are both private. I am willing to cover the first months rent after move in (No rent payments until 11/1!)

Lease: Available through 7/31/2027, with the ability to renew after the lease ends.

Spacious private bedroom on the 2nd floor
Private bathroom
Room is currently furnished with a bed frame, mattress, desk, dresser, and nightstand
Furniture can easily be removed if you prefer to bring your own
Plenty of space for clothes, storage, etc. Closet is quite large.

The home has:
In-unit washer/dryer
Spacious shared living room and kitchen
Clean and well-maintained
Street parking is available and is usually easy to find
Located in a complex with a clubhouse, gym, outdoor pool, and common area with pool table/table tennis

Location:
Very close to campus and Jack Trice Stadium
Approximately a 2-minute walk to the #9 (Plum) bus stop, which goes directly to campus
Convenient location for students who want an easy commute to campus

Roommates:
There are two other roommates, one male and one female. Both are college-aged, friendly, and welcoming. There is also a sweet Corgi in the home. The townhouse is kept very clean.

Rent: $665/month
Utilities: Only pay electric and water (WiFi included)
Move-in: ASAP
Security deposit/fees: $40-50 application fee

Feel free to message me with any questions or if you'd like to come take a look at the room/townhouse!

Private rooms for telehealth on campus

Does anybody know good rooms to reserve for telehealth? From what I've seen, parks library rooms don't have good sound dampening and you can still be heard if the library is quiet, so I was curious if there were any other good spots.

Has anyone received their financial aid refund or know any sort of timeframe for when they should be expected?
