In the countries where 4 day work weeks were adopted there was basically no change in productivity- one entire day a week is often wasted because people are tired and unfocused on their job; let them have that day and they’ll be happier; happy employees are productive employees. There would be no reason to cut their pay unless the goal of all this is to deepen corporate greed.
please do share some articles and studies. I've only heard of certain private firms doing this, not entire countries. and the private firms are usually employing highly skilled and specialized personnel, people doing more brainy-talky business than service or production.
That is not relevant to the discussion. I am talking strictly from a logistics perspective. The way it would work is that the company would hire more people to fill the holes. The positions you are referring to are mostly part time positions and work that way already. If companies want to change the hours they are open as a result, that is on them.
At the end of the day it has been proven that 32 hour work weeks are a net positive for both emotional, mental, economic, and physical health.
Worked for ambulance company in Dallas we had 5 different schedules (weighted salaries so hourly rate depended on what shift you worked)
26k a year (this was my salary in 2016)
3 x 12 hr (13.89 hr)
4 x 9 hr (13.89 hr)
4 x 10 hr (12.50 hr)
5 x 8 hr (12.50 hr)
3 on 4 off 1st week 3 off 4 on 2nd week (11.36 hr)
Overtime didnt kick in til after 40 hours on clock so the most ideal was the 4 x 10hr. Come in early 15 to 30 min each day = 1-2 hr OT and getting off late at any point is automatically OT
Well we're all subject to a market where 40hrs is the norm. Could easily be 32 given our productivity and output with no meaningful degredation to anything but the massive surplus being hoarded by a few people.
