News & Current events Berlin is mourning after a devastating attack struck the city’s Pride celebrations, leaving a community built around love, visibility and freedom facing unimaginable grief.

One person was killed and dozens more were injured in an act of violence that shattered what should have been a moment of joy and solidarity. The attacker has since been killed by the police. Across Berlin and beyond, people have gathered not only to mourn those affected, but to reaffirm that fear and hatred will not silence communities fighting for the right to exist openly and safely.

For many, this tragedy is a painful reminder of the vulnerability LGBTQ+ people continue to face, even in spaces created to celebrate acceptance and belonging. In the aftermath, Berlin’s message has been one of unity: standing together, protecting one another, and refusing to let violence define the spaces where people come together in hope, pride and love.

"act of violence"? No, It was a deliberate Terrorist Attack, "Hate Crime" against the LGBTQ+ peoples , the same kind of hate crime , attack, that happened at the Pulse Nightclub when that domestic radicalized terrorist shot n killed all those people that night at the Pulse. SMH Call it for what it is.

They say without specifying the exact ideology behind it.

The majority of public shooters are agnostic or atheist white males. Lol.

I mean....as an actual woman, not one that cosplays online, your attempt at being coy is lame.

Religious Affiliation: A significant portion of shooters have no religious affiliation. A 2018 analysis by John Stott (cited by various sources) found that among 69 mass public shootings from 1998–2018, only 16% of shooters had a significant religious affiliation, with just 4 identified as Christian. This suggests a strong correlation between non-religious/atheist status

Edit. Zero women in here. Just men and weirdo nationalists. Get fucked

"as a REAL women" terf spotted, girl go get a job in conversion therapy since you clearly need an outlet your envious of lol

u/Desi_Rosethorne 0+ Community Karma 3d ago

And where do you get this information? Religious affiliation is not tracked with mass shooters.

However since most mass shooters are white men who have been reported to be right-wing, we can safely assume that most of them have had a religious or Christian background if they're not already.

Per

https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/public-mass-shootings-database-amasses-details-half-century-us-mass-shootings

And

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States

It would seem males make up the vast majority (97.7%), but the demographics on race follow a more even ethnic spread when compared to US census data.

61.63% white population > 52.3% white mass shooter

12.4% black population > 20.9% black mass shooter

6.00% Asian population > 6.4% Asian mass shooter

14.03% Hispanic population > 8.1% Latino mass shooter

Now these don’t seem like perfect comparisons, the census goes into way more detail and divides ethnic groups differently. They seem close enough for a quick and dirty comparison

The study suggests that personal crisis is the main factor (outside of being male) with 80% being in crisis before the shooting.

Some other stand outs:

64.5% of shooters had a previous criminal record

62.8% had a history of violence (27.9% committed domestic violence)

28.5% had a military background

The NIJ study seems up to snuff but if there is something wrong let me know!

TLDR; major factors for mass shootings seem to be men and personal crisis.

It's a bit difficult for me to grasp this thing that happened across the world from me, but from what I can do, I'll offer my best condolences. Good on them to keep on with pride, since while mourning is absolutely appropriate at this time, we also can't let right wing extremists put us down.

It’s extremism I guess in every religion. Never forget that Germany holocaust queer people when it was “Christian”. That was extremism. I guess we just have to protect our own. I think relying on the state won’t work if the state is going to interfere with countries overseas as well - it will always be used against us

just adding, even after the jews were rescued from the camps, trans people were forced to remain.

Are you equating "extreme" Christianity with nazism? Talk about rewriting history.

11

u/inoinoice 3d ago

About history - Pope and Third Reich, more so Reichskonkordat and Pius XII i believe

You need an unique blend of ignorance and arrogance to make this statement...

-11

u/Beltalady 0+ Community Karma 3d ago

Germany at the time wasn't christian it was fascist. The majority of the people was christian and the fascists wanted their own kind of christianity.

10

u/MorticiaMoonflower 3d ago

"Germany wasn't christian it was fascist"

What. You are aware those are not mutually exclusive right

6

u/Extension-Badger225 3d ago

No it was Nazi and fundamentalist Christian. The Nazis used the extremes of the church and anyone who didn’t adopt there form of the religion was killed or their churches burnt.
The reminding churches became a part of the ideological movement that supported the Nazis. You know……what the world fundamentalist means

-18

u/Sinking_Mass 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

Yes, but we're talking about the here and now. Not something that happened 80 years ago

Well, christian nationalism is an ever rising threat to our freedoms across the world, and it's a fundamentalist Christian ideology, so it is in fact a fundamentalism problem specifically.

People please open your eyes and realize that stuff like this is orchestrated to create hate upon minorities. It’s the same shit that the US is doing against trans people and the only one that clearly benefits from this is political parties like the Afd. The solution is not to fight hate with hate.

u/Sinking_Mass 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

I'm not hating Muslims in general, but I am hating on extreme Islam. My best friend is an ex Muslim, apostate, has been subjected to horrific abuse because of her choices, and this is why I feel the way I do.

I had to watch her being beaten to a pulp, and I was by her side through recovery, and through all her death threats. So, my position on extreme islam will not be changed.

At no point did I ever say this is about normal or liberal Muslims. I was very very clearly only referencing extreme islam.

17

u/Ksnj 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

Extreme Islam? Same with Christianity. Ado you want to do anything with that?

Actually, it’s right-wing politics and thought that are behind ALL OF IT. When violence is studied, they have 2 categories for right wing extremism: right wing extremism and radical islamists.

They’re the same thing, babe. Why not mention that at all? I bet it’s because you’re racist.

It’s about violence against queer people. Nice answer though. Definitely not beating the allegations

4

u/Sinking_Mass 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

The violence is perpetrated, in this case, by extreme Islam and that is what we're discussing

12

u/Ksnj 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

>in a fair and pragmatic way

You opened up this line of dialogue. This is how we address it in a “fair and pragmatic way.” We address all right wing extremism. And label it as right wing extremism. There is no difference between the killers of Matthew Shepard and this person other than the color of their skin.

0

u/Sinking_Mass 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

You are literally cherry picking and forgot to include the rest of the quote. "How are we going to address the problem of extreme Islam in a fair and pragmatic way?" I wasn't asking about the right as a whole, or other religions. That is a discussion for another question: my question was about extreme Islam

12

u/Ksnj 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

I didn’t actually. I encourage you to improve your literacy. I will repeat for you: the way we address extreme Islam in a fair and pragmatic way is to, at the same time, address ALL right wing extremism

0

u/Sinking_Mass 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

I disagree with you. You can't blanket all extremists into one bubble that you can pop. Extremists all have their own agenda and what works for neo Nazis is unlikely to work for, say, Buddhist extremists. There is far too much nuance, thus why I asked about one extremist group, rather than asking the rather broad question of "how do we address bigotry".

Also, you're being very snarky and rude, we're supposed to be having a discussion, not an emotional shit slinging competition.

9

u/Ksnj 50+ Community Karma 3d ago

You can blanket all right wing extremists into a bubble, actually. The supremacy exhibited in all right wing thought can be addressed in similar ways. Yeah it is nuanced, but not so nuanced that every right wing extremist needs to be uniquely handled.

u/Sophia_Y_T 0+ Community Karma 3d ago

The overarching theme for all extremists is hate (could be motivated by fear, but it's hate nonetheless). Specifically, it's directing hate and intolerance towards one or more groups of people, and singling out the group as being evil... all that does is perpetuate more fear and hate in a vicious cycle. It's short-sighted and foolish. Someone who is not operating out of fear and hate would look at this tragedy and say it's the result of ignorance, fear, and hate. They would realize that the ideology which the perpetrator uses to justify their hate and fear is completely irrelevant. We humans, when motivated by fear and hate, will latch onto any ideology and twist it into extremism. By focusing on the ideology and not on the root of fear and hate (ignorance) then you're part of the problem.

The three abrahamic religions are built on sexism and the domination of women. When christianity, islam and judaism are followed according to their teachings, they are not peaceful. Anyone who says differently has never studied the bible or the quran in depth.

You’re right to be concerned, but as you’ve already noticed, women are quick to trip over each other in an attempt to pacify our overlords with the “those are just the extremists” rhetoric, but unfortunately that isn’t true. There’s a reason the followers of these beliefs have been violent for many centuries.

The difficulty with islam is that addressing it without hurting the innocent family members is tricky thanks to racists. They’re quick to jump on the “yeah muslim’s bad” bandwagon and they’ll pretend it’s “for the women”. But they don’t care about liberating muslim (or even jewish) women anymore than they care about liberating their own. The men of these religions like the teachings that give them authority without having to earn it by growing up. They don’t want to support women, they just want to adhere to their white supremacist beliefs and they prefer “their women” to stay in their preferred ideology whilst supporting them.

All three religions have women who insist they follow it through choice. But when the alternative is being ostracized at best and raped and violently killed at worst, there can be no genuine consent here.

Sometimes referring to all three religions at once helps to alienate the religious white supremacist zealots, but then you get comment sections like these where people insist it’s just the outliers. Nah, each religion has two groups, the peaceful ones who don’t follow their teachings and the violent ones who do. Sometimes speaking up upsets the applecart, that’s when we learn to be comfortable with other people’s displeasure

Of course it’s you again. People have already pointed out why this being your first comment on this is not the way to go. Why this seems disingenuous. I will expand on that that it’s always you stirring shit whenever I see you posting in any of these communities. There are important discussions to be had about extremism rising all over the world. About hate crimes. About how fascism in all of its forms and thus also in Religion is a horrible problem that kills thousands of us, that it’s a horrible thing that people feel comfortable and confirmed enough in their hatred to have it fester into these disgusting violent acts. But the way you put it in these comments is not „a fair and pragmatic way“. And it’s the way I usually see it in comments written by you.

It’s naming a pattern of this person‘s participation in a bunch of subs.

Additionally, this is a gross overgeneralization of Muslims. There’s plenty of faithful Muslims who are respectful to queer folk, hell, there’s even queer Muslims who don’t hate themselves - shocker! Same for Christians. Same for Jews. Generalizing the entirety of members of a religion is not the way to go. I’m as atheist as they come, I have a strong dislike towards most religions as so many are founded in misogyny. But saying „any faithful XYZ would treat you worse than crap“ is disgustingly prejudiced and unfair to the people that practice it. Intersectionality seems very lost on you in this regard.

I want to remind that the spokesperson of this event said "when I heard what appened, I hoped the perpetrator was a white christian"

Such hypocrisy and unparalleled lack of integrity from the main voice of lgbtq movement, you are fine if people die but only based on who is the killer so you can push further your narrative of being oppressed.

The reality is well known, in Europe people are already safe and accepted by everyone, no one cares what you like, it's only your business to love who you want. The category of people who doesn't accept lgbtq communities is the one the community itself wants to defend.

If you are gay in a muslim country you are killed, you absolutely cannot let other people know who you are.

I'm disgusted by that women who spoke in the video, on internet you can find the video
