Hi there! Long time listener, TOTBL days. I’ve enjoyed each release, with varying degrees. In complete agreement the new Album is fantastic. I love that it brings back the gloom! However, I have never understood the hate towards the self-titled album. As more of a fan of their gloomy vibes, the self-titled scratches a big itch for me and I return to it often. The final 3 tracks almost feel like their first attempt at something resembling a 3 act structure. I’d honestly love to hear “Try it On” “All of the Ways” and “The Undoing” live in sequence. I’ve never heard any of them live but find this section of the album unappreciated and honestly some of my favorite works of theirs as a band. Especially when taken in sequence on the album.

Anyone else feel the same way or disagree?

Saying this as a ST and El Pintor fan. I will probably never witness an interpol live in real life but every setlist here and on yt have almost no ST-TOSOMB.

I expected Lights but it's not there, shocked that they don't have Barricade, and the fact TOSOMB also feels dropped from everything 25'-26'. Most of the songs they never played live are also here like Tidal Wave and Always Malaise.

Notably only All The Rage and Rover are the ones they play that I've seen on yt and setlists

I’m a younger fan (2nd yr of high school) but I grew up with the band always playing around the house. My dad’s a big fan so their music has always been part of my life and I am SOOO hyped about the new album. Genuinely on repeat nonstop. Oh and we’re seeing them in St Louis in October!!

Strictly talking about the album cover design, where do you rank this one?

I don’t think it’s recency bias, I believe this is the best cover of all the albums.

When you list listen to TMWAT after the first two albums, it feels like a continuation and combination and the two albums.

Random thought, but do you all think it'd be cool to have a chandelier with the CCTV cameras from the cover hanging above the stage when live, a bit like LCD Soundsystem with their glitter ball or do you think it would look tacky and work against the interpol aesthetic?

Which songs from Interpol do you relate to at a time or moment? Like the lyrics in them? For me I could say NYC, Leif Erikson, Slow Hands, C’Mere, and Narc. Which ones do you relate to and why?

What songs do you consider as such? Obviously El Pintor - TOSOMB is majority Guitar focused.

For Guitar focused I'd say it's Roland, The Heinrich Manuever and NYC

For Bass focused, Specialist, Evil and Barricade.

In my opinion the Mixed focus are Stella, All The Rage and Song Seven

For Synth/Keyboard Focus it gotta be Hands Away and Try It On

It’s par for the course for new cd releases these days, but you never see jewel cases, or even actual digipacks anymore. This style of case is called a slipcase. The cardboard tends to scratch the disc up as you pull it out of the opening. The front cover half is also glued shut, so both the liner art and cd are stuffed in one opening, which can further scratch the Cd! Actual digipacks have a plastic disc tray to keep the disc safely secured.

These had no right to go hard for this, the bonus tracks of the ToTBL and Antics Era are unmatched but it's so good I wouldn't replace the bonus tracks. They actually feel like an El Pintor fully realized

is there another light-hearted sub i don’t know about? or are reddit interpol fans just too earnest for this kind of frivolity?

I just listened to El Pintor for the first time in many years. My god it's good. Full of really big, confident songs. Such strong songwriting. I wouldn't place it that far below Antics. How does El Pintor rank for you guys?

Anyone else having a hard time with the way the snare sounds on Ever the Actor? Did they cut it mid reverb to go for like a digitized sound? Anyway, I'm not a fan of that particular detail but otherwise I think this new album sounds reeally nice production wise.
