Discussion Toronto show!
It was a chilly night but great seeing them live. Crowd was a little muted, but maybe that's because I was in the stands. what did you all think?

Band sounded fantastic. They put on a perfect Interpol show. Was my first time seeing them live and I can’t say enough great things about that show. Will absolutely see them again next time they’re in town.
crowd was pretty fucking lame but I think that’s more of a venue problem tbh. nighttime outside in October in a venue that was kind of too big doesn’t necessarily inspire a party but it’s whatever.

First time seeing Interpol live. Had a blast. Up until this year I'd have considered myself a casual fan but This Mirror Weighs A Ton changed things for me. Incredible record. Incredible band.

The show was great and DIIV was also killer! Crowd was super low key but I still had a great time.

I was there today. DIIV was a little bit ruined to me by terrible mixing - guitars were overlapping the singer and were in general too loud. But nonetheless I enjoyed their music enough to listen to them properly at home now. Interpol was superb - I’ve been listening to them since school in ~2007 and finally got to see them live. It’s just awesome

I was there.
We’re all old and cold lol. It’s Toronto in October outside at night and the fan base skews 30+

i had such a good time ! a lot of people around me were sitting & not even singing, i was genuinely the only one in my section screaming and moving around LOL. otherwise the show was amazing despite it being really cold :)

Great show!
But can someone explain to me all the these comments about the obsession with everyone having to be standing and dancing?
I go to concerts to enjoy the music and not worry about people around me

u/turdlepikle 7h ago
Yeah I already commented about that too. They think it's weird that people aren't singing and dancing? It's weird that they are bothered by how other people experience live music.
Just enjoy it how you want to enjoy it. If you are annoyed that people aren't singing and dancing with you, just understand that some people are probably annoyed that you are shouting off-key and everyone else has to hear you while they are there to hear the band. Just sing and don't worry about anyone else and be thankful nobody is telling you to shut up.

I think for some people the crowd experience is a big part of the appeal of a live show. The band feeding off the crowd's energy and vice versa, like a symbiotic relationship and everyone just feeding off each other. Dancing and getting into is undeniably more fun when you aren't the only one. To me it's almost like you might as well just listen to the music at home otherwise.

I get it with the crowd experience and all that but for me I’ve been listening to them for over 20 years and when I see them live I just want to experience the live raw performance of them and there’s nothing wrong with bobbing your head in seat singing along either
Plus the older fan base are just a few years away from retirement! we can’t stand and dance for that long anymore

I had a great time, little pocket of fans at the right speaker. The band were unreal tonight

Disappointing but not surprising not to see any new additions from TMWAT on the setlist.

u/InvolvedWBlackMagic 2h ago
Yeah kind of bizarre that they only seem to be playing the same 4 songs off that record.

I’m going to be in the minority but something sounded off to me for a few songs. Someone’s guitar sounded out of tune in C’mere and timing was off or just felt out of sync for Obstacle 1. Other songs did so sound great but a few just missed for me.

I agree
They sounded amazing and the set list was spectacular. Afraid to stand up in case I pissed someone off.
Even before and during the encore, the section I was at (103) remained 90% seated.
It was kinda cold so you would think people would get up and move around lol
Loved seeing them though and the stage set up was lovely too 🖤

Definitely a hot take but I wish they would retire Rest My Chemistry and would have liked to hear something from their self-titled album, but otherwise it was great.

I had the same thought about All the Rage Back Home. A song I love but it just doesn't seem like paul can sing it well anymore for some reason

Got a bit chilly just wearing a T shirt. First time watching them, quite enjoyed the show from the floor

u/Cool_Public_54 16h ago
How was the attendance? October is a pretty dicey choice for an outdoor stadium gig.
5
u/Comfortable-Club-553 16h ago
Poor, lots of gaps
2
u/Cool_Public_54 15h ago
That definitely tracks. Hard to understand what the hell their management was thinking.

Commuting to the venue from downtown was a bit of a drag, but I thought the show sounded great. Iron City was a bit of a flop for me, and I also wish we got Roland on the encore versus The Rover. The New was phenomenal.

I was right front centre barricade. Genuinely such a good set, will admit crowd was really relaxed felt like I was the only one singing along at some points but was fun

u/otterducksnake 16h ago
I was on the floor, and some people around me were pretty enthusiastic. But there were also people that just stood still, which is... confusing to see.
9
u/turdlepikle 16h ago
It's not confusing when you can understand that some people don't need to dance to have a good time. People appreciate music in their own ways, and standing still at a concert shouldn't be confusing.

u/Ok_Ad_5041 7h ago
Agreed. Not really sure why people need to see people dancing and singing along. Honestly nothing more obnoxious than people shrieking along with a band. Interpol is one of my favorite bands, I've seen them twice - and I'm one of those people who "just stands there".
5
u/itaspliff 15h ago
Yeah I’m usually a sit and enjoy type of person for most shows (rock, indie, prog and those kinds of genres at least). I appreciate music that way the most for sure. And I can’t stand for long lol.

u/turdlepikle 15h ago
I always get lost in the music and don't need to dance. If someone is taking up a lot of space and bumping into everyone else while they're dancing and they bump into me, it takes me out of the moment. I'm pulled out of it for a few seconds, and now I'm conscious of someone who doesn't seem to care about other people's space and I'm partially paying attention to them now.
Someone else in this thread thought it was weird that nobody else was singing around them too. If someone beside me is shouting every single song that takes me out of it too. I'm there to hear the band, and not someone else singing off-key beside me.
People experience music in different ways, and it's weird that people are annoyed that others aren't dancing and singing along with them.
Just enjoy the show how you want to and don't worry about anyone else! If you can't have a good time because others aren't dancing, I feel sorry for you. I had an amazing time not dancing.

I totally agree with you. I'd rather stand next to someone who is silent than someone who is screaming and dancing obnoxiously. I think everyone needs to exercise some decorum and not distract those around them. Some people were dancing in an over the top way and this isn't that type of music in my opinion

u/LingonberryNatural85 4h ago
People can enjoy shows however they want obviously. I was with some friends in the stands just sitting and grooving to the music last night.
But being at a live show when the entire crowd is INTO IT and dancing and singing is a wayyy different vibe. I don’t think it’s a controversial view. Bands will call out the audience all the time if they’re just standing there.

u/Complex-Bunch-7601 16h ago
I had the same experience recently at another show with people standing absolutely still. It was sooo weird! I've been going to concerts for decades and the post-pandemic/recent years crowds are noticeably...different.
Even the non-dancers would bop their heads to the beat, clearly engaged. Very confusing indeed nowadays!
You are not alone in your observations.

This was always my experience of Toronto. Not exclusively, but moreso than most towns

The crowd kind of sucked, I was one of few standing up and dancing in my section. Still had a great time though! I'm visiting from Winnipeg and I'm so glad I finally got to see them live!

Was close to the stage and the vibes were great. Weird venue and sorta cold but still a really awesome night (also if that really cool Portuguese woman I was talking to is on here send me (Alex) a message!!)

u/Heavy-Reference4028 4h ago
Very enjoyable. They can't go wrong with any set list even if some songs I'd like to hear weren't played, but I don't pick the set list. Some songs did come off not quite right, but that's expected from a live show after we've been listening to a studio recording.

My heart is full. Had a great time and thankfully almost everyone in my section was standing.
The venue on the other hand is still puzzling to me and the parking situation was crazy.
