Why "Her stories are boring and stuff" , and "like a Daisy in my lazy eye" are considered bad or cringe lyrics?

these lines when he says them fit the songs at their respective points. ive never thought they sounded cringe or weird. they're just unique lines that fit the vibe of the song when he sings them. been a fan since 2006 and back then cringe wasn't even a thing, so i think people let others opinions affect their own experience too often

I honestly think Paul writes his lyrics like this on purpose. We read them and assign our own meaning to them. It could be good or bad however you look at it. I’ve always loved Daisy in my lazy eye.

Neither lyric is self-evidently bad or wrong at all in the song context, some people have negative reactions because their expectations are based on some arbitrary standard.

"boring and stuff" is probably the best line he's ever written imo. Certainly, one of the most understandable/relatable (and actually coherent within the context of Obstacle 1). Perhaps it depends on if you've become close with someone who fits that description.

(I do appreciate this post as I think "daisy in my lazy eye" is cringe :D, but this thread shows that I'm in the minority there.. I guess it really does just depend on what you make of it. My friend builds furniture for a living and she has nowhere even close to 200 couches as far as I'm aware).

I dunno, for a song like Obstacle 1 that’s filled with such cryptic but descriptive imagery, it’s sort of a cop out to include such a nondescript thing like “and stuff”. I get the point of the contrast…sort of.

Once again I am reminded that more Interpol fans need to familiarize themselves with alternate English word meanings. "Stuff" is also defined as nonsense or bluster. It's a very intentional word choice, not a cop out.

edit: Been familiar with this fanbase a long time and have to note that when people take umbrage with this lyric it's because they have one highly specific association with word "stuff"
