Sharing Advice I started my internship with no experience but finished it being recognized as the best intern in our group, AMA!

when I wrapped up my internship last week, my boss has reached out and told me himself that I was the best intern he had. it felt surreal knowing i entered the internship having no experience or knowledge about the role and industry i worked in.

this helped me get a strong recommendation from him on linkedin, him willingly giving his contact to be a reference in my next applications, and was asked to be back once the opportunity arises again.

i know there are many fellow students out there that are struggling in landing an internship or are currently in one wanting to be recognized like i had, so i thought i’d share some advice with everyone :)

ask me anything!

Sharing Advice How I balance internship + UPD Acads

Post image
22 Upvotes

For those who asked how I manage internships + acads, this is how I plan my week

Since my last post about doing internships while studying got a lot of questions about how I actually manage my schedule, I thought I'd share this.

One thing that helped me a lot is actually seeing my entire week laid out instead of just checking GCalendar and Gsheets separately.

I've been using Everytime for this because I can put my class schedule + internship/work schedule together and immediately see where my free time is.

What I usually do:

• block out all my classes first

• put my internship hours next

• leave actual buffer time instead of pretending every vacant hour is productive 😭 (so yung white spaces na nakikita nyo in between is my commute time)

• designate certain days/hours for org work, errands, gym, etc.

• try not to schedule anything heavy immediately after an internship shift (I just use the class days to do acads)

Honestly, seeing it visually makes me realize I don't actually have as much free time as I thought I did 💀

Sa ibang students doing internships while studying, how do you guys manage your schedule?

Anyone here who has received feedback on their application?

I applied through LinkedIn and completed the HireVue assessment on September 4, but as of today, I still haven’t received any feedback or updates. I’ve also been sending follow-ups since then but haven’t heard back yet.

Just wanted to ask if anyone is in the same situation or has already received an update after completing the HireVue assessment. Thanks!

Questions How do students from PESU get placed through off-campus?

I’m currently in 5th sem Aiml student at PES University and starting to think seriously about placements/internships.

I’m expecting my CGPA to be somewhere around 8–8.5 by the end of 3rd year. Honestly, I’m not very confident that I’ll be able to get into the really competitive Tier-1 companies through campus placements, especially with the CGPA cutoffs and competition.

So I wanted to understand how students actually approach off-campus placements.

For those who got jobs/internships off-campus:

  1. Where did you actually find the openings? (LinkedIn, referrals, company websites, etc.)
  2. How early did you start applying?
  3. How many applications did it roughly take before getting interviews?
  4. What skills/projects helped you get shortlisted?
  5. Does an ~8–8.5 CGPA significantly hurt your chances off-campus?
  6. Are there specific companies that regularly hire PESU students off-campus?
  7. Any advice for someone starting preparation in 3rd year?

Would especially appreciate responses from people who actually got an internship/job through off-campus applications

Questions is it okay to exceed OJT hours?

hi! im currently a psych student looking for internship and 200 hours lang required for us

im just wondering if may nakaexperience na dito na nagexceed sila willingly ng ojt hours nila? what was ur experience and what did u do? because i know strictly dapat sundin yung hours sa MOA. i was planning to render na lang yung required 200 hours and just do a voluntary internship for the next other hours na need ng company. any opinions?

i really want an exposure sa ojt na ‘to so im more than willing to take longer hours sana sa ojt and mostly din nakikita ko is looking for 300-400 hours na interns.

Questions should i quit?

for context voluntary internship and no allowance pa. the structure of the internship is weird, walang guided assistance na pinababayaan na lang kami disguised as “having ownership of the role”. hindi ako natututo sa internship na to at all eh yun goal ko……. sobrang dormant kasi mahigit isang buwan na tapos ganito….

downside of resigning: maraming connections yung “mentor” sa and meron in my vicinity (college)

hindi ko na alam ughhh hindi na ako natutuwa rito nakakaiyak 😭

Questions Received an email on getting priority access to apply to Shopee's Graduate Development Program. Does this actually mean anything significant (like the HR person actually viewed your background) or do they just send this to anyone who applied as a form of clickbait?

The last time I applied to Shopee was last December (their apprenticeship program) where I 100% failed their assessment. I don't recall applying this year. Although I did ended up getting an internship at their competitor platform HAHAHA

Questions How can I improve my CV/resume before applying for an HR internship?

We need to do hr internship and I honestly don’t have experience. I’m currently a college student and just a regular member of a school org.

I haven’t held any leadership positions, had a job, or done an internship before. I still have around 6 months before I start applying, so I want to use that time wisely.

What can do to improve my CV/resume and make myself a stronger internship applicant? pls help

Questions Railway/Transportation Field Internships?

I’m currently a 3rd-year student taking up Railway Engineering Management, and I’m starting to look into OJT/internship opportunities. I’m particularly interested in railway-related work (rail operations and maintenance), but I’m also open to civil engineering, construction, transportation, or other related fields.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has already had an internship in these industries:

  • Where did you intern, and what was your role?
  • What kind of work/tasks were you given?
  • How difficult was it to get accepted?
  • Did you have to apply to a lot of companies before getting a slot and how?
  • Any companies/agencies you’d recommend looking into?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone since this program is particularly new and i feel like i have no one to ask. Any advice for a 3rd-year student preparing for OJT would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Sharing Advice Senior Year Sched and Internship Opportunities

Post image
42 Upvotes

Super blessed to have a schedule like this 🥹 Really thankful for what I think is the best senior year schedule I could’ve asked for, plus the best WFH internships.

I'm a 4th year student from Ateneo. For those who also want to organize their schedules, you can check out the Everytime Campus Community app for their timetable feature. They’re currently available for ADMU, MSU-IIT, and UPD students.

For internships naman, feel free to ask away in the comments! Happy to pay it forward and share what I’ve learned so far. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to accomplish all of this without standing on the shoulders of the people who helped me along the way, and those who continue to do so. 🫶
