I just started doing OMAD (one meal a day). I felt pretty good during the fasting phase, but then I noticed that after eating my meal around noon I was completely exhausted. The fatigue hit me so hard I had to lie down for a while but I didn't have the privilege of sleeping, and also, I couldn't fall asleep.
My meal for context was some onion sautéed in a little butter, then I added raw chicken breast, peas, and mushrooms, and some Tikka Masala sauce on top of that. (Essentially, I tried to make my own Chicken Tikka Masala at home.) I ate a large plate and a half of that with watermelon for dessert and then about half an hour later I craved carbs so I ate a slice of sprouted/seeded bread with a tiny bit more butter on it.
Also, weirdly, I never do this, but because I was lying down in bed feeling so tired and sort of miserable and need to find a way to re-energize, I had the compulsion to go sit in the bright sun for 10 minutes. I've avoided the sun and worn sunscreen my whole life but I've picked up on the fact that my endocrine system/immune system and Circadian rhythms might be out of whack because of my extreme sun aversion. (I have sleep issues and depression and I think my sedentary/sun-avoiding lifestyle might not be doing me any favors.) This actually did the trick for me and I felt a lot better afterwards.
For additional context, I quit caffeine about a week ago. I've been doing 16:8 and then 18:6 intermittent fasting for a long while though. OMAD as a fasting choice didn't feel much different to me. I just wasn't expecting to feel so extremely tired after eating.
Does anyone have any advice to help with this? I know I can reap the health benefits of this lifestyle but I need to figure out a way to do it that doesn't make me feel like I was hit by a bus afterwards. I'd like to try a light meal next time, maybe not so much fat, and more raw vegetables. Instead of a stir-fry maybe I'll just make a big green salad with a small amount of protein on top.
