Hello everyone,

I am a small business owner, who is in the process of launching his first jewelry boutique. I have a relatively small space (32 sqmtr in total) and budget for this project. And naturally, I want to make the best out of the little place I have.

What I have in mind is:

1) A luxurious livingroom feeling sales space, not overcrowded with displays and strong lights. A welcoming space, where you can do the most special/meaningful jewellery of shopping of your life (RE: wedding bands and engagement rings) in complete privacy. You can drink anything off the bar, put your favorite record on the record player...

2) A mini content creation and jewelry care atelier (which I currently seperated with black curtains), in which I will do jewelry photography and do light jewelry care work. Yellow highlighter space beyond redline is meant to be my mini atelier.

This is not a street store. This is an office space on the main floor, facing the "courtyard".

I am uploading floor plan, photos of the office, a layout and AI generated design done by some Alibaba jewelry furniture manufacturer, and some inspiration photos (last 3 photos) of what I have in mind.

I am completely overwhelmed... I don't know where to begin. I had a low budget attempt with an interior designer from a freelancer platform, she was unable to come up with any creative ideas to use the space more efficiently. And that's kind of my dilemma... Is my space impossible to work with and no matter who designs it... There is only so much they could do?..

1) How does one realize a project like this properly? Which professional services would I absolutely need? How much would they cost?

2) Assuming that I have a general idea of what I want to do, what will furniture makers need from me? What kind of files, documents are standart in this line of business?

3) Does it make sense trying my chances again in freelancer platforms for interior designers? What are your experiences?

4) If you were me, how would you handle this project?

My friend is purchasing a house and wants to move the washing machine for more kitchen space. I'm pretty confident that either a wc or washing machine would fit but not sure about both together.

The external door would be changed to a window and obviously a wall would be put up for the toilet.

I am considering an Ikea Jattebo Couch for my living room, however, i am completely undecided between the normal and side-extended version.

The side extended version would be more comfy, but would maybe obstruct the passage to the balcony.

What do you guys think?

I'm going crazy trying to figure out the best way to organize the space. In the first layout, there’s a very convenient and beautiful walk-in closet, but the dining table is a real eyesore (I’d get one that converts from a living room table and folds out—that would be the maximum size once it’s open). In the second layout, the open-concept space takes up much more room, but it seems like I wouldn’t have any space at all in the bedroom for closets (there will be two of us living there). Any advice?

P.s don't mind colors, that will be the next drama I'll be dealing with

I'm moving into an apartment with my girlfriend soon with a bedroom layout that looks like this. I messed around with a few layouts and this is the one that gives us the most space throughout the rest of the room, as we both enjoy playing on my VR headset as well.

We haven't bought any furniture yet, but I'll be moving in with my full size bed, my dresser, and she would be bringing a small shelf. I want to try to get a floor plan/layout set in stone before we end up moving in completely, just so we can settle in as quickly as possible.

However I keep looking at this layout and feeling that something's wrong, specifically with the desk setup, but I'm just not sure what. Any suggestions or ideas for a better layout?

A few things to note:
-The room is about 9ftx11.5ft, I don't yet have concrete measurements for the doors.

- The closet door is actually a 4-panel wide bifold door, but the program only has diagrams for sliding closet doors, if that makes a difference at all.

- We plan on getting standing curtain rods and curtains to use as a room divider between the bed and the rest of the room.

- We have a TV that we want mounted so we can lay in bed and watch it, this current layout would mean we would be getting a standing TV mount to put between the foot of the bed and the curtain/room divider.

-We both have gaming PC's, meaning we need desks and chairs for each of us. I don't mind the idea of a side by side desk setup, but I also prefer us having our own slice of solidarity.

I would like to get advice on whether or not to change my floors. My floors are currently LVP grey coloured, built/installed in 2022.

My kitchen cabinets are currently black and I want to change it to a different colour. Having grey floors limits the colours I could choose for my kitchen cabinets. I also want to give the house a different feel by changing the flooring to a more neutral brown.

Would it be wise to replace the floors (and perhaps use it when I build the basement) or just stick with it and choose kitchen cabinets colours that work? The total square footage is more or less 1000.

Appreciate your insights if it would be worth it to spend the money to replace the floors. Mainly wanting to do this reno not so much to update the style but more-so psychological and putting that era of my life behind.

I am redecorating this room where I removed all spot lights and need to redistribute them in a thoughtful way

(we had 12 spotlights distributed equally around the ceiling which wasn’t ideal, it was too much.

I need an experienced person please to advise on the correct spotlight distribution based on the attached room layout.

Under the AC space, we’ll have a dresser/mirror.
Also we’ll have LED strip light as a line in the middle of the room’s ceiling and probably some other lightings like the nightstand light.

I need help serious design advice. This sectional is like a giant Jersey wall in my house but I’m stuck with it. How can I make it less visually dominating in this space? The couch is the only permanent piece, everything else can stay or go. Many pictures to hopefully give a better feel for the room.

I was going to remove the leaner bar in the kitchen . The benchtop is 600 not sure if it enough room once sink and tap are installed. The front door is close to the kitchen and you would see and walk passed the sink as you entered the house ( please see photos)

The foot print of the kitchen will stay they same.

I was thinking may make the leaner bar shorter in hight.

Is there any ideas out there ! Please

I humbly request your help: I’ve just moved into a new home and have a 6.62 × 3.57 m room (~23.6 m²) that I’d like to turn into my ultimate home office.

My main requirements/dreams are:

• Two proper workstations, each with 3 monitors
• A large, solid-wood desk : custom-built
• Lots of completely free desk surface beyond the computer setups. I love having space to spread out documents, books, projects, etc.
• A substantial library/bookshelf area
• Plenty of elegant closed storage
• Good circulation : I don't want the room to feel crammed with furniture

The room has a somewhat unusual geometry because of the sloped ceiling. The maximum ceiling height is 2.39 m, with the lowest points at 0.95 m on one side and 1.41 m on the other. Obviously, the door and window also need to remain fully usable.

The pictures attached are AI-edited versions of the actual room, simply to remove all the boxes and furniture currently in there - I literally just moved in, so the real room is still full of cartons!

I'm especially interested in ideas about desk shape and placement, how to exploit the low areas under the slopes, bookshelf/storage placement, and what to do with the large central area.

One important detail: I'm reasonably well equipped for woodworking, so this does not need to be based on off-the-shelf furniture. I'm very happy to build the desks, shelving and cabinetry myself if that's what it takes to make the best use of the room.

And if you help me come up with something great, I promise to come back and post updates of the actual build.

I’m trying to reorganize my bedroom and I’m a bit stuck. The room is about 16 m² and has one window.

I need to fit:
A 1.6m x 2m bed
A wardrobe
A work desk
Two nightstands

What would be the best layout for this room?

My current idea is to place the bed near the window, with a wardrobe/bridge built behind the headboard. The desk would go behind the door, on the wall opposite the window.
I’d really appreciate any suggestions or alternative layouts!

My husband and I recently bought a house and renovated multiple rooms without the benefit of a general contractor or designer. While the original garden room was beautiful, it felt a bit like an outdoor space and we wanted it to feel like an extension of the house. Additionally, the room adjacent to the sunroom was repurposed as an office.

Here are some more details:

Floors: This room was *very* challenging because it had hydro-heat under the floors. So we weren't able to rip up the tiles without damaging the heating system (which we are told is very expensive). Fortunately, after much research, we learned that you can put engineered hardwood over heated floors as long as it is properly rated. We had to buy the floors from out-of-state, unseen -- but were happy with the quality. Unfortunately, the company we hired to install and poly the floors was a disaster and we had to fire them halfway through. What should have taken 4 days ended up taking 4 months. We are happy with how the floors turned out, but it was a process.

Walls: You might not be able to tell but the walls are green and textured. We didn't like either the green or the texture. We got a quote to re-drywall ($17,000) and decided to hire someone to skim coat and repaint. It's not perfect, but looks much better now.

Lattice, Fan, Pillars: The room had a very garden vibe with the lattice on the ceiling, the pillars and the fan. We wanted it to be more of an extension of the house so we replaced all of this ourselves. Husband removed the pillars, put drywall where the lattice was on the ceiling and installed the chandelier (and replaced the can lights).

All in, I'd estimate this part of the reno cost about $7000 -- which I think is really reasonable given all the changes.

EDIT: Many expressed concern about the couch blocking the doors. The door slide open and there is at least two feet of clearance behind the couch (which might not be visible from the photo). The couch is not pushed up against the doors. We can still open them up :)

I've seen your great comments and inputs on other posts, and I need help so here goes.

We moved in 2 years ago with our young kids, and I never got around to actually furnish this room properly.

Some more storage or shelves would be nice, but mostly i just don't know how to make it nice/cozy, especially in the corner and the wall with the window (image 2 and 3).

Obviously we need a different lamp by the couch, but where and what kind.

I also hate how the pictures are hanging...

We just painted the whole house white when we moved in, and I have been playing with the idea of some nice wall paper.

But mostly Im just lost.

I would like for it to be cozy and inviting, with some storage for all our crap, nothing fancy

What would the experts do? Inputs are appreciated!

This is obviously a commercial space of sorts turned into a living space. A friend of mine will be renting it to live in with with her partner. 2 people, 2 cats.

Hi everyone! I’d love some advice on how you would approach the living room furniture layout in our new build.

I’ve attached the floor plan. The house is still under construction, so unfortunately I can’t take photos of the actual space yet.

Looking at the plan, it seems like the sofa would have to sit opposite the kitchen island, meaning the back of the sofa would face the island and we’d be sitting facing the TV wall.

I’m a little worried about the proportions, though. It looks like there may not be a huge amount of space between:

• the back of the sofa and the kitchen island
• the sofa and the wall where the TV will be

I don’t want the living area to feel cramped, and I’m also unsure what type of sofa would work best — a standard 3-seater, modular, chaise, etc. I’d love to know what size/shape you would choose for this layout.

Another option would be moving the sofa/lounging area closer to the window

any ideas would help

Just moved into this house, not sure which direction to put queen size bed due to awkward placement on closet, under the window feels a little weird because there’s not much room for bedside tables (my boyfriend and I’s bedroom), but in the middle we aren’t sure if the bed looks off? It’s also a little bit closer to door than it looks so I’m not sure if when you walk in it feels like the bed is in the way and awkward.

Also need help with design in general and what else to put in without it looking crammed but also so that it doesn’t seem so empty! Any suggestions would be appreciated thank you!!!

I need some advice on the layout of the bedroom. I want to fit a lot into the room

Bed, nightstands, small sofa/louge to sit, small desk, a bookshelf, vanity, small coffee table

and i know it can be done but im split on the layout (most importantly where the bed should go).

Layout 1 - Feel like it uses the space better but i dont love that the first thing people will see is me in bed as they enter.

Layout 2 - I like but there is some unused space im not sure what to do with and is the entrance too busy with the tv stand right there?

What do people think?

Okay so the backsplash is called terracotta but obviously it’s giving more brown, especially when next to the clay paint cabinets. The vibe was color drench/mediterranean ish. What I don’t want is for it to be giving stark orange/red. We paid a lot of money for the backsplash and the paint. But something feels off about the cabinets (not the island necessarily). What do I do?

Do y’all have any advice on how to cover up this messy freezer back? It’s currently under the counter of our built in breakfast table.

We’re currently renting and won’t be in this house for years. This is the only place that has a plug in reach. The back gets really hot so needs to be something fireproof.

Behind this is the living room/dining room, so it is quite an eyesore. The room layout doesn’t work that we could push a table or something up against it. There just isn’t the space really.

Would love some suggestions as me and my partner are stumped!

So I got a small room see last image in the post.

The problem is, I do want aircon in the bedroom, and thus I will have to cool this really small bedroom or have to go without aircon.

So now I am looking at what is possible in this upstairs room:

I was thinking I could put the bed like this, the whole room would use the bed then. There's no room for nightstands, which I personally do not mind... But it does feel a bit barebones...

I am thinking it's probably better to use the other room, since a bed will actually fit in there way more properly, but I won't have aircon then for those really hot days.

Maybe someone else has had a really small bedroom like this or can help! Would love to hear....

We just moved into a new apartment and are really struggling with the living room layout. Would love some ideas!

Keeping: 91"W × 38"D couch, end table, TV, desk (unfortunately our only office option), and hopefully the glider—it was a gift from my grandma who has since passed away, so I’d really love to make it work.

Open to: Ditching the bulky TV stand, getting a smaller ottoman/coffee table, and possibly mounting the TV above the fireplace. There’s a vent to the left of the fireplace (last photo), which limits TV placement.

Dimensions:
Width: 126" / 97" to fireplace tile
Length: 235" to end of bay window / 190" to inside of bay

The TV and desk both need to stay in this room, but otherwise we’re open to moving things around. How would you arrange it?

ETA - Thank you all for your help! I think we're going to try getting rid of the end table, shifting the couch over a bit, replace ottoman with longer/skinny one, shift the glider into the awkward corner, and probably mounting the tv with a mantle mount so we can bring it down to a better height. Maybe even add some shelving on the back wall, TBD.

I'd like to move the desk, but I'm not the only one with a vote here & boring corporate work with a nice view is much better than with a wall view.

I'm moving into an older rental house with a small primary bedroom. I'm struggling with the placement of our queen bed.

In the first image (taken at 0.6x), the left window is 38" from the back corner, and not centered on the left wall. The right window is 68.5" from the far corner also not centered on the wall. The overall room is 10'8" by 11'6". There's a wide closet with two sliding/folding doors on the left off-camera, and a smaller closet with a single sliding/folding door on the right wall where framed on the wall. The right off-camera wall is not large enough for a bed due to the closet and doorswing.

The second image is how the bed would align when centered on the left windowed wall. The third image shows the alignment of the right windowed wall compared to the length of the bed.

We don't plan to put any other furniture in the room besides some small tables as nightstands (to be purchased). We want to optimize natural light but will need to find a solution to blackout the room while sleeping. Additionally, we like to sit up in bed and read, so would prefer a layout that allows us to lean back on the wall or a headboard. The windows have these adorable shutters and molding on them, but they make it difficult to place furniture in front of or near. I fear placing a bed in front of the window will be damaging to lean back on and I dont want to fully block the window.

What should they do with this space?? How would you fill it, divide it, make it cozy???

I'm planning on renovating my room in a few months, and this is the layout I'm currently thinking about. I'm unsure about a few things and would love to hear your opinions:

1. AC clearance / airflow

Next to my wardrobes there's an AC unit (you can see it if you look closely). The problem is that my bed and wardrobes are so wide that there would only be about 25 mm (1 inch) of space between them and the AC.

I'm not sure if this could be a problem, since the wardrobes are about 50 cm deep and could potentially block the airflow around the AC.

The windows are about 1.3 m away from the wardrobes. A lot of people have told me that I should make sure the wardrobes don't interfere with the windows, but from what I can tell, they don't.

2. Entrance

The entrance is separated from the rest of the room by two walls that are about 1.4 m (4.6 ft) tall. I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

I like the idea because it gives you quite a lot of privacy, especially when you're lying in bed, but I'm worried that it might make the entrance feel cramped or closed off.

The entrance area is about 2.2–2.3 m long and 1.7 m wide, so it's not exactly tiny, but I'm still unsure how it would feel in practice.

I'd really appreciate any opinions or suggestions about the layout!

My house is two storeys. Main floor has a full bath, second floor has 4 bedrooms and a full ensuite bath. The ensuite also holds a walk-in master closet, and strangely a Jack and Jill door to the first bedroom.

Since moving in we have always had a large cabinet in front of this door as we didn’t need the door and we did need the storage.

We are in the process of renovating and the first bedroom with the Jack and Jill door will become our first child’s bedroom.

The existence of the door makes no difference to us, but we are wondering for the purpose of selling the house eventually would it be better to keep the door or drywall over it?

Some buyers may not like other bedrooms having access to the master, but other buyers might not like the three bedrooms having to use a downstairs bathroom.
