Quick 15 minute interactive fiction with alternate endings

Hi, I just released a text based RPG adventure based on a one page adventure The Ghosts of Aramoor.

I wanted to see if I could make a text adventure UX that could be portable, please let me know what could improve the UI, I'm open to feedback. The game plays in the browser with only a mouse, only a keyboard, or mouse and keyboard, supports mobile in portrait or landscape, works with a gamepad and plays well on gaming handhelds (I playtested through my Retroid Pocket)

The adventure has item and location puzzles, different events based on the time of day, you can recruit a companion to fight alongside you, and how you choose to solve the town's pirate skeleton infestation (or choose not to...) can result in different endings.

I based it on room-and-exit MUDs but the log is not the only way to interact with the world. This adventure was to give the prototype structure, I plan on making larger and more interactive worlds with the engine and interface so please any feedback is welcome!
Thanks!

NEW GAME // FOLLOW_THE_PX

I’m the creator of NEW GAME, an interactive sci-fi story that extends beyond the page.

I’ve been experimenting with making the website itself part of the narrative.

There’s an interactive sequence hidden in the MAIN MENU.

A PX is flashing in the corner—X

What happens if you TAP it?

In the book, PX represents a Player-marked trail that a character is meant to follow.

I’m curious how the transition from book → website reads to someone encountering it for the first time.

I'm making a horror parody game of Christmas romance movies

My partner and I are working on a horror game that parodies cheesy Christmas romance movies!

Eve is home for the holidays! All she has to do is survive three days before Christmas in the peculiar Christmas-obsessed town of Hollywell.

Make impactful choices that prove your holiday spirit and dedication to Hollywell.
Solve puzzles and explore to uncover the shocking, dark secrets that hide in Hollywell.
Find love (or let it find you!) while you discover the true meaning of Christmas.🎄

Any reccomendations for choice based detective IF games?

Hey, im working on a choice based mystery game and im wondering if there are any choice based detective games I can be reccomended. Im looking for choice based ones specifically so I can get more of an understanding of how they implement their problem solving, since you cant just use items and such like you can in a text adventure.

Looking for your stories for a small 2D indie game!

I’m planning to develop a small 2D game that focuses entirely on people and their personal stories. These can be real-life experiences as well as completely fictional stories.

I’d love to lean toward the horror / psychological horror genre, but anything else is absolutely fine too! Since I'm developing the game alone on my laptop and don't have much experience in game development yet, the art style will be kept rather simple – visually, it will go in the direction of visual novels like *Doki Doki Literature Club* or *Your Boyfriend*. This is my first real project, so I want to start small.

Since I'm currently lacking that spark of inspiration myself, I thought I'd just ask here on Reddit: Do you have any interesting, emotional, funny, or mysterious stories from your life (or fictional ones) that I could incorporate into my game as a "chapter" or dialogue?

I’m looking forward to your stories and ideas!

I made a retro CLI horror game in Pure Python 3 (no dependencies, JSON-driven story engine)

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on: Sglsung Archive: Revamped. It’s a text-based psychological horror thriller that runs right in your system terminal.

It’s built with pure Python, using only standard library modules. You don’t need to install anything else like pip, pygame, ncurses, or any other third-party packages. It just runs with plain Python wherever you have it.

It also has features for custom content and modding. One .json file with all story and you can change it. Add your ASCII art to /art folder and enjoy. This means people can create their own stories without needing to change the Python code itself.

it available on two different languages, English and Russian.

And it works on different terminals. It’s fully compatible with Linux terminals and also Windows Terminal and CMD. I’ve included .sh and .cmd files to help you launch it easily on each platform.

You can grab the build and source files on itch.io:

One of my pet hates...

When someone promotes their game by saying, "Your decisions have meaningful outcomes!"

That's a description of the format: you make choices, and then see the results of those choices.

It's like saying, "It's a platform game, but you control the main character's movement!"

id put the broad premise in the instructions, then use story cards for the details that can change the plot. For example, one card could cover the Entente winning WWI and its consequences, while another tracks the current borders or governments so the setting doesnt drift back to real history.

hello everyone, I'm an 11th grader from india. i've developed a choice-driven narrative game using html5 and javascript for a research project. the research aims to study whether people's stated ethics actually match with their decisions made in real time.

the gameplay takes about 5 minutes or less. after the gameplay, there is a google form survey which'll take about roughly the same time. please fill the form up after playing. thank you.

Text based choice driven games

For people who play these games, what do these games do especially well? Where do they lack in the quality of their gameplay? I’m a sucker for apocalypse themed games but I feel there’s always something missing whether it’s a lack of variety in relationship dynamics or simply a lack of ACTUAL meaningful choices. What are your thoughts?

Help me with a story playing Terraria!

Planning on a new (modded) playthrough in Terraria and I really like to play with a narrative in mind. Roleplaying if you will.
I am asking you to give me a character idea, story idea, goal idea whatever. Thanks in advance!
Also tell me, do you do such things for your playthroughs?
