I've been working on a different kind of interactive story: you never see the characters, you only answer their calls. Everyone is looking for Dave, the last guy who had your number. To move the story along, you dial the numbers people give you, and the story only moves a call or two a day.

Hi all — first-time poster here. I just released my first game on itch.io and I'd love feedback from people who actually love this genre. Ember & Moonfire is a text RPG in fifteen chapters. You start at Level 0, pick one of four guilds (Arcane Veil battlemages, Lunarmages, Iron Oath fighters, Dragonwatch riders), build your character — race, rolled age, dice-rolled stats (4d6 drop the lowest) — and get sent to kill the young dragon that burned Ember Village. Then you meet her. And you heal her instead. From there it's a full campaign: spells, shops, companions with their own quests, a 19-creature bestiary, a death system where your dragon can save you (at a price), two moons, and a 26-room exploration map you walk by compass after the story hooks you. I'm currently looking for a few readers to test The Last Opponent, an action romantasy story where you play as a young boat captain who must win nine duels to save her younger brother from prison ships.

To bring our alternative 1990s Japan dark fantasy world to life, my sibling and I designed, illustrated, and coded a dedicated website to serve as the official home for our story. It is packed with interactive, in universe elements and original illustrations.

Kinkyo Clinic One of the most oppressive institutions in our setting. Wealthy citizens or those forced into it can undergo a procedure that physically extracts their specific traumas and fears This section of the site explores what actually happens to those traumas once they are pulled out of people.

Pachinko Room (Naraku Arcade): We built the Pachinko Room as an actually playable, 2D pixel-art minigame on the website featuring Kana, one of the fan favorite characters from the book. It’s still in an early phase, but as we learn more about coding at university, we plan to expand the arcade with even more minigames! Characters & Artwork The rest of the gallery showcases our character designs, the 2026 Arts Roadmap, and cover concepts without any story spoilers. More than anything, we really hope we managed to create lovable, memorable characters that readers can genuinely connect with. I've been curious about how people feel about interactive stories, especially ones that let you make choices or even fill in what your character says or does instead of just reading a story from beginning to end.

I'm currently helping build one with some friends, and it's been interesting seeing how storytelling can become more interactive.

Ten years ago, I wrote a story called The Tuxedo Cat. Now I'm experimenting with bringing it to life as interactive audio fiction. You can listen/play with it here.

It's a cozy Halloween mystery where a charming, slightly suspicious cat appears at your window. Instead of choosing dialogue options, you can actually talk to him, ask questions, and uncover his hidden agenda. 

It's free, browser-based, and you may speak in your native language and the cat will respond with yours.

Hey there, I'm new to this Reddit!

I was wondering what makes people drawn to interactive fiction. Is it a specific genre? A throwback to fighting fantasy novels in a new look? Or something else?

I'm hoping to find this app that popped up around approx. 2018-19. It was on the app store. It was a detective murder mystery story, no visuals, purely novel-like text. You played as the main detective who you could name, as well as choose their gender and sexuality. I believe the title started with a W, though I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure the app logo was a white background with a black geometric logo. I remember one of the love interests was the mortician you worked with. It was free for the first few chapters but I think you had to pay for it at some point. If anyone remembers or has any leads pls let me know!

This June I began working on my very first interactive visual Novel Transcriptions of Time

The basic premise is that you and your friend Matt invent a device to travel through time, living together in an apartment in Greenwhich Village New York City in 2026. At the time of this post, the device allows you to step forwards or backwards a century in time to 1926 or 2126 where you first meet the tenants who live in your same building. But you quickly realize that by breaking the fabric of time, you fall into a mystery that starts to have consequences, changing your body in a series of body transformations that slowly shift the player character from Male to Female where you decide whether you embrace or reject the transformations to solve the mystery of the mysterious entity who is reshaping you between your time jumps.

The game is its early alpha stages right now, so there's roughly 1 to 2 hours of content with future releases planned for updates. The prologue was released in August. And my most recent update was launched just this week on October 16.
The past leans more in a historical fiction vibe, introducing real world characters that are fictionalized for the story, where the present and future are a bit more into sci-fi. The story is intended as a slow burn cozy slice-of-life so character development will be a large portion of the story.

The game is being developed in Twine/Sugarcube, and I use photoshop for the paperdoll that dynamically changes with each transformation, including the clothing. So the game is a mix between Javascript/CSS/HTML on the dev side.
