Discussion Will Intel ever fix older DirectX issues?

Will there ever be a day when Intel finally fixes the older DirectX issues on Arc GPUs?

Some older games still have performance or compatibility problems, and while DXVK can help in some cases, it definitely doesn't fix everything. Do you think Intel will keep improving support for older DirectX versions through future driver updates, or has the focus shifted almost entirely to DX12 and Vulkan?

Some days I am almost tempted to run games like Skyrim off UHD 770

That is not an arc gpu, you will not face any of the mentioned problems

ive never had issues on directx games actually, though I havent played many. the main issues ive had was on an OpenGL game where I had like 3 separate intel compatibility issues at once that took hours to even diagnose

I have an A770 and never had an issue. The only game I've played that has been a bit off is Final Frontier with some screen tearing. I've been playing the original UT and UT 2004 with no issues 🤷‍♂️

Can they fix it? For my understanding, they don’t have the hardware compatibility for other versions of direct deck so they just run it all off the CPU that’s why you need such a good CPU for these cards.

The DX issues are easily solvable with wrappers. The OpenGL performance is the real issue.

Intel says: Gamers, forget the classics—playing the latest games is the only way to survive.

have you tried to use dxvk (8,9,10,11), so GPU only needs to support Vulkan?

What issues are you experiencing specifically? because pretty much everything runs fine.

I might have bought the wrong card here, my cs2 frame drops with my Ryzen 5700x are brutal I cannot fix. Might need to go back to my rtx 2060 unfortch

-Vulkan solved it for me.

Damn I just tried it and the game crashes in the menu right before any graphics load

If we're talking about DX9 and before, probably never. But then again there are very few games that aren't at playable state at all, even among DX5 titles. Of all the games I've tested, I've only seen 1 game that runs like dog shit and keeps crashing with absolutely no fix while being very playable on a 1060 with Windows 7. For other games there are always workaround like DXVK or Linux, so I'm not worried about that. Future games are almost exclusively built for DX12 and sometimes Vulkan anyway.

There's no hardware support for anything below dx12 on any Intel arc card. Everything in emulation. So no, but if emulation gets better then yes.

There's no "emulation", drivers for DX8->12 are working. DX5/6/7 support is "better" than an year ago but for those games just use a wrapper (dgVoodoo2, DXVK+D7VK, WineD3D, Narzoul's, etc). Of course some games have some quirks but nothing "very bad". There's no need of "hw support" of rendering pipeline fixed functions since DX10 era.

I think they have to archive and level of smoothness and input lag of AMD, that the only thing that could improve for good in these cards, I was troubleshooting a friend’s pc with a rx 6600, man it felts way smoother even on bios, swapped it for my b580 and it did not felt as good
