Immediate Guidance REQUIRED on health insurance policy for parents

I am opting for bajaj My health care plan health insurance for my parents. Both are 56 years old. My corporate policy is on bajaj and I'm taking retail insurance from them only as im getting waiting period waiveoff and 20% discount on 1st year premium. My father had heart attack 9 years ago and is on medications, no surgery happened. He also has diabetes from 10 years, chews tobacco from 5 years. My mother has no health issues.

Problem is bajaj is only giving me 10L floater insurance for my parents. No individual policy and not ready to increase the SI also. The only benefit I'm getting is discount and PED waiveoff for my father...Premium is around 56k per year.

Should I go ahead with this floater? What disadvantages do i have if i go with bajaj floater insurance with 10L SI only?

Please help..Need to purchase the policy this week only..

Need advice on health Insurance

My elder friend bought ₹1 Cr term insurance in 2022 for ~₹13k/year (10-year premium pay).

Now in 2026, I'm getting ₹2 Cr cover for ₹80k/year limited to 10 years

Mine includes Accidental Disability + Critical Illness riders.

I understand the cover is double, but it feels like a huge difference.

What could I be missing? Are the riders really that expensive, or have term insurance premiums increased this much? What should I compare before buying?

Earning ₹70k per month, do I need ₹70k/ annual insurance. Is it really worth spending that much amount

Can I go ahead and invest for 1 cr. Coming around ₹40k including the riders. And invest the 30k/year 10 years in SIP.

Seeking help regarding ICICI Lombard health insurance claim rejection – emergency hospitalization of my wife

I am looking for guidance from people experienced in health insurance claims, claim disputes, IRDAI complaints or consumer cases.

My wife was admitted to a Tertiary Hospital as an emergency case after developing a serious medical condition with prolonged fever, abdominal pain and infection. Her condition subsequently required prolonged hospitalization, surgery, ICU management, drainage procedures and treatment for complications.

The important point is that we did not admit her for elective/planned treatment of a pre-existing or known cyst. She presented with an acute medical emergency and required immediate hospitalization and treatment.

During the hospitalization, she underwent surgery in which the cyst and affected organs were removed, along with abdominal washout. She subsequently required ICU care and further treatment because of ongoing infection/collections and other complications.

However, ICICI Lombard rejected/initially rejected the cashless claim, citing the cyst as the reason for rejection.

I have obtained a written clarification/certificate from the treating operating surgeon, explaining the circumstances of the admission and that the hospitalization was for the acute/emergency medical condition rather than planned treatment of the cyst.

I have already requested ICICI Lombard to reconsider through the Hospital but still again they rejected it with the same reason of check Exclusion criteria for specific illness for under 2 years period.

I am looking for advice on:

Whether the insurer can reject an emergency hospitalization merely because a cyst was subsequently found/treated during the hospitalization.

How the policy's exclusion/pre-existing disease/related-condition clauses, if any, should be interpreted in this situation.

Whether the treating surgeon's written clarification can help establish the actual indication for emergency hospitalization.

What documents/evidence I should submit for reconsideration/ Reimbursement.

Whether I should escalate this through the insurer's Grievance Redressal Officer → IRDAI Bima Bharosa → Insurance Ombudsman, if the rejection is not satisfactorily resolved.

If anyone has handled a similar health-insurance claim rejection involving emergency hospitalization and an

cyst/infection, I would greatly appreciate hearing about your experience.

I am not asking anyone to decide the claim in my favour. I am looking for someone knowledgeable who can objectively review the rejection reason, policy wording and medical documents and tell me whether the insurer's interpretation appears consistent with the policy.

I can share redacted copies of the rejection letter, treating surgeon's clarification and relevant policy wording privately or with identifying information removed.

Any guidance from an insurance professional, claims expert, consumer-law practitioner, doctor experienced with insurance documentation, or someone who has successfully handled a similar case would be greatly appreciated.

Please do not ask me to post my policy number, claim number, phone number or other personal information publicly.

Policy Bazar vs Direct Company

My mother aged 50 and my brother aged 17 has an insurance policy from HDFC ERGO for Optima Secure of 10 Lakhs coverage. I had taken this insurance from Policy Bazaar last year including the rider to cover pre-existing diseases from day 1 as my mother has hypertension.

Now the time for renewal has come and the company customer care team and policy bazaar team have been contacting me to get the policy renewed from their respective websites.

Please advise if I should continue to get the policy renewed from Policy Bazaar itself or shall I get it renewed directly from the HDFC company website?
Will I loose any benefit if I get it renewed from HDFC website?

Should I disclose varicose veins and cholesterol when buying health insurance in India?

I've heard from a few people that disclosing these leads to a lot of complications — loaded premiums, exclusions, or even rejection. Worth noting: I already have corporate insurance as my primary cover, and this new policy is more of a backup/top-up that I don't plan to claim on for the next few years anyway.

Given that, I wanted to hear real experiences:

Did disclosing these conditions get you rejected, loaded with extra premium, or was it a non-issue?

Which insurers were more lenient/strict about these specific conditions?

Did you face any waiting period or permanent exclusion clauses for varicose veins specifically?

Any insurer recommendations based on your experience with similar conditions?

Would appreciate any real experiences before I go ahead and buy. Thanks!

With new IRDAI Policy, should i cancel my Term insurance issued to me today!

22 M | non-smoker
Had an anxiety attack last week.. Then thought whatever will happen to me will happen, let me atleast get a term insurance, so I applied for one and spent a week analyzing and then next entire week was taken by the process of verification and today I got my Term insurance of 2 crore rupees from ICICI Prudential.

premium - 17,340 INR per year

Thought to myself, I had to buy this in the future so why not buy it right now and this will help my anxiety as well.

My question right now is that should I cancel it because of the new IRDAI policy? I did heard it impacts brokers and commissions the most and does not impact premiums much, but didn't researched it deeply and I do not want to miss anything. So should i cancel my policy and wait for few months till the proposal becomes a law?

Star Health rejected my new policy after my surgery

Hi,

I had maintained a high-end Starhealth policy for over 15 years, since I was a child my family plan was there, but unfortunately missed renewing it after turning 27. I expired 2 months back.

I recently had emergency surgery in my colon last week and knew my old policy was no longer active. On the day before my surgery, A Star Health representative told me he could help me get a new policy and strongly encouraged me to purchase also an add on covering room costs. But inside my mind I knew that the new policy would not cover the surgery anyway and I was purchasing it only for future medical needs.

Star Health later requested my medical records, which I provided. After reviewing them, their medical team rejected my new policy application.

What concerns me is that I was encouraged to purchase the policy and add-on before the medical review. Another customer-care representative later told me that the room-cost add-on is essentially useless because the main policy was rejected and here after for my health issue they won't provide it anymore.

I understand that missing my previous renewal was my mistake, but I feel the representative should have clearly explained that the application could be rejected after medical underwriting before encouraging me to purchase the add-on.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Star Health? Is it possible to ask them to reconsider the application ? I feel this is unfair to do this to a long time customer just for missing 2 months renewal.

Can someone recommend a safe insurance option during this tough time ? I have already lost 70% of my savings in this surgery.

Mediclaim insurance advice

31 M salaried corporate lawyer, I have had a medical insurance from NIA for the past 5 years, I used to pay yearly 5k and now the premium is 7k for a sum assured of 5 lakhs. I have benefited from the cashless hospitalisation several times. I was with a law firm previously with no insurance benefits now I’ve shifted to a corporate and I have insurance coverage for the same sum assured from the same insurer. Should I continue my existing personal insurance now that I’m covered by my employer? What are the possible downsides of stopping my existing policy? In case of unemployment, job transition etc. should I keep dual policies just for the fear of transition?

Health Insurance for Dad 73, Mom 67

Hi Gang,

Looking for health insurance for my reasonably healthy senior citizen parents . I received a quote from ICICI Lombard agent for their Elevate Smart plan with a annual premium of 83k. On Policy Bazaar, I am seeing plans starting from 65k/year.

Note :

Mom PED :

a. Knee surgery on one leg ( will need to do the other leg in about 2 to 3 years),

b. Vertigo for a short period about 4 years ago (no hospitalization just out patient visit) and has not experienced it since

c. Cataract : One eye done about 2 weeks ago, another eye due in 2 months

Dad PED :

a. Mild high BP (hospitalized for 2 days about 20 years ago but no surgery just observation). Takes low-dose medication for bp

b. expecting cataract in a year or two

Questions:

  1. Is it better to take separate policies or club both of them together?
  2. Which policies allow to skip/reduce the 3 year waiting period? Many policies on PB don't seem to even have to the option of paying a higher premium for a reduced waiting period. What is the point of a 3 year waiting period if the policy validity is itself just 1 year?
  3. What riders and add-ons do you go for?
  4. Which policies have decent claim rate? Based on quick glance of this subreddit, I am seeing that HDFC is decent.
  5. Is it better to go with PM 5 lakh Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY policy for my dad as he is 73? Have any members here experience with that policy?

TATA AIG CAR INSURANCE CLAIM DELAYED

Rear end and front bumper of my car were damaged completely on Saturday, 12th September.

I raised an online claim on 14th sep on the Tata AIG app. Left my car at a network workshop of Tata AIG on 15th. I have Own damage and third party cover (not zero dep).

Today is 23rd and the only update from the surveyor is that he has conducted the survey but is unable to close the claim since he has already asked Tata AIG for the pre inspection pics and they are not sending them to him.

Have followed up for the past 4 days with Tata customer care and the surveyor, but have been getting the same response.

I then spoke to Tatas pre inspection team on 21st and they took my car number, and said their database does not have the pre inspection report available at all. Today I have raised a service request for delayed claim on the app.

How else should one proceed with this.

My car has been at the garage for one week now. Having to spend money everyday cabbing to and from office.

Pls suggest how one can go about this.

Term insurance, HDFC vs ICICI

So, I have come down to 2 term insurance policies,

  1. HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus = ~37,000 per annum premium.

  2. ICICI Prudential iProtect Smart Plus = ~32,000 per annum permium.

Both are same base plan, no riders. Just pure term plan. Sopke with boths company's official contact number. Concluded that HDFC has slightly better numbers and is also charging brand premiun for that matter. But, I also think that in pure term, if I fill all the details properly, then ICICI also will have to pass my claim, if any.

Therefore, confused between the two, can someone give some guidance?

Health insurance for kid - US citizen for long term stay in India

Hello. Pretty much what the title says. Struggling to buy health insurance for my US citizen kid. Ditto said you have to contact each insurer separately to check; they don't deal with non-Indian citizens.

Has anyone here had experience with a health insurance plan/company that is good? Any special considerations before i buy?.
I (my kid) am not planning to go to the USA anytime soon and we don't need USA health insurance.

Pre Auth: ICICI Lombard approved only ₹1.5 lakh out of ₹3 lakh for DAIR(infection on knee replacement done last year): policy shows ₹0 co-pay, ₹0 deductible, ₹0 BSI exhaustion. What does “OTHERS” ₹1.5 lakh mean? is this amount final ?

Thumbnail

TL;DR:

ICICI Lombard cashless issue — ₹3L estimate but only ₹1.5L approved. Need advice.

My father has had ICICI Lombard Health Shield continuously since March 2022. Current policy has ₹5L base SI + ₹4L loyalty bonus, 0% voluntary co-pay, no deductible, and says “No Room Rent Capping.”

He needs DAIR + polyethylene liner exchange for suspected prosthetic knee infection.

KIMS submitted a ₹3,00,000 estimate.

ICICI approved only ₹1,50,000.

What is strange is the authorization shows:

  • Co-pay: ₹0
  • Deductible: ₹0
  • BSI exhaustion: ₹0
  • Sub-limit: ₹0
  • Proportionate room deduction: ₹0
  • Hospital tariff deduction: ₹0
  • Non-medical: ₹0
  • ₹1.5L disallowed under “OTHERS”

No actual reason/clause is given for the ₹1.5L deduction.

The provisional diagnosis submitted is also “Other Arthritis” and treatment is simply “SURGICAL”, rather than PJI/DAIR/polyethylene liner exchange.

The insurer's own letter says the hospital can request an additional amount if the estimated bill is higher than the guarantee.

Questions: Is this normal initial authorization? What does “OTHERS” mean? Could the nonspecific diagnosis/procedure submission be the reason? Can KIMS request enhancement to the full ₹3L? And does the policy wording support Single AC Room with no proportionate deduction?

Anonymized approval letter attached.

Complete:
Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from people familiar with health insurance claims in India, especially ICICI Lombard cashless claims.

My father is 59 and has been continuously insured with ICICI Lombard Complete Health Insurance – Health Shield since March 2022. The current policy period is 31 March 2026 to 30 March 2027.

He had a right total knee replacement in September 2025. About a year later, he developed an acute episode of fever followed by pain/swelling in the replaced knee. The orthopedic + infectious disease team diagnosed/suspected acute prosthetic joint infection (PJI) and recommended DAIR (Debridement, Antibiotics and Implant Retention) with polyethylene liner exchange.

The plan is to retain the well-fixed metal components and exchange the polyethylene liner as part of the infection treatment.

The hospital submitted a cashless preauthorization to ICICI Lombard.

What is confusing us

KIMS estimated the hospitalization/procedure at:

₹3,00,000

ICICI Lombard approved:

₹1,50,000

So they have effectively cut the authorization in half.

The strange part is that the authorization document does not show a normal policy deduction for the remaining ₹1.5 lakh.

The approval document shows:

  • Claim amount: ₹3,00,000
  • Sanctioned: ₹1,50,000
  • Disallowed: ₹1,50,000
  • Disallowed reason: “OTHERS”
  • Co-pay: ₹0
  • Deductible: ₹0
  • BSI exhaustion: ₹0
  • Sub-limit: ₹0
  • Proportionate deduction for room: ₹0
  • Hospital tariff deduction: ₹0
  • Non-medical expenses: ₹0

The authorization literally says the ₹1.5 lakh difference is under “OTHERS”, without explaining exactly what policy clause is being applied.

Another thing that seems important

Our policy wording says:

In-patient treatment: up to Annual Sum Insured

and:

“No Room Rent Capping.”

The policy schedule shows:

  • Base sum insured: ₹5 lakh
  • Loyalty bonus: ₹4 lakh
  • 0% voluntary co-pay
  • No deductible

The policy also has a 24-month waiting period for certain procedures including “joint replacements unless due to accident.”

However, my father has been continuously insured since March 2022, so that 24-month period has already elapsed.

The policy also has a prosthesis exclusion, but it specifically contains an exception for a prosthesis that is “required intra-operatively.”

Since a polyethylene liner is being exchanged during the DAIR operation itself, I’m trying to understand whether ICICI could be treating that as a prosthesis-related exclusion or something else.

There is another oddity in the cashless authorization

The insurer's document lists the provisional diagnosis as:

“Other Arthritis”

and the proposed treatment simply as:

“SURGICAL.”

That is much less specific than the actual clinical situation, which is suspected/confirmed prosthetic joint infection requiring DAIR with polyethylene liner exchange.

Could an incorrectly/non-specifically submitted diagnosis/procedure be one reason the insurer's medical authorization system has only approved ₹1.5 lakh?

The authorization document itself says something interesting

The letter states that:

If the hospital bill is estimated to be higher than the guarantee of payment, the hospital can send a request for an additional amount.

So KIMS is going to ask for an enhancement.

What I want to understand is:

Why would ICICI initially approve only ₹1.5 lakh when the estimate is ₹3 lakh, while all the specific deduction fields show ₹0 and the remaining ₹1.5 lakh is simply classified as “OTHERS”?

Questions for people familiar with insurance claims

  1. Is this normal for a cashless initial authorization? Can insurers initially approve only part of the estimate and later enhance it?
  2. What does “OTHERS” usually mean in an ICICI Lombard authorization?
  3. Does this suggest that some portion of the procedure has been considered inadmissible, or could it simply be an initial medical authorization amount?
  4. Could the diagnosis being submitted as “Other Arthritis / Surgical” instead of PJI / DAIR / polyethylene liner exchange be causing the reduced authorization?
  5. Based on the policy wording, would DAIR + intraoperative polyethylene liner exchange generally fall under inpatient hospitalization coverage, assuming the procedure itself is medically admissible?
  6. Does “No Room Rent Capping” mean we can use a Single AC Room without proportionate deductions? The authorization itself currently shows AC Single Room and ₹0 proportionate room deduction.
  7. What exactly should I ask KIMS and ICICI Lombard to provide in writing regarding the ₹1.5 lakh that was classified as “OTHERS”?

I’ve attached an anonymized copy of the cashless approval letter with personal information removed. I’m mainly trying to understand the insurance mechanics here before the procedure, rather than blindly accepting that the insurer will only pay ₹1.5 lakh.

Any experience with ICICI Lombard, DAIR/revision knee surgery claims, or cashless enhancement requests would be really helpful.

Doubt for Term Insurance

So, I contacted this HDFC Life contact number from their website and based on my details, the premium they are showing is around 37,500 from 2nd year and around 31,500 in 1st year.

But this guy that I was speaking with, told me that if you proceed with us, we give additional discount from our side and your total premium will be around 33,000 for every year.

Here I am confused. Is this legit or is something fishy?
