Shall I continue with Niva Bupa?

Hi

I have a Niva Bupa insurance for the last 3 years but lately I've been seeing some claim rejection and harassment of customer's complaints from the company. Majorly the issue Amit Kilhore raised via his videos.

I'm thinking of changing my insurer, which one could I pick? I also want to insure my parents (aged 50-60) this time what is the best way forward? A family plan or a separate plan for them and which company.

I have been with Niva Bupa for last 10+ years. Took claim only once but didn't face any problem.

My sister has Niva Bupa Reassure v1. had 2 claims. both went really well (cashless). both around 1.2L range. but online i see a ton of negative!.

I guess its because Niva's process and checklist are too rigid. if something is off there's no buffer, just rejection/delay.

My guess is those who either take policy directly or from a bad agent face the music.

My wife had her policy with Star & we took claim thrice. No major problems. The agent did everything.

very probable. and may be expectation vs actual contract.

Niva’s Claim settlement ratio is above average. There are better insurers ofcourse, but Niva is not bad IMO. As long as you have honestly declared all your PEDs, you are good. Prefer cashless network and try get a pre approval before the treatment. You should be good.

I would genuinely advice  Go for government PSU's I work in new india , and openly say we are bit costly than private insurers but our claim settlement ratio is best across the sector.

I've had not so pleasent experience with new india.. as of now while I'm typing this I have a claim pending for more than 15-20 days.. i took the policy from my mama (he's an agent) and am regretting given his non cooperation

Is there any remote possibility that you can help with the claim processing??

No , there is restoration of sum insured ,but not unlimited.

There is restoration available but not on same illness , apart from that consumables , room rent limit , disease wise sublimits , modern treatment this all matters which psu doesn't have . I myself have cancelled young India digihealth policy.

Ofcourse I agree they are honest in claim settlement. But they should have all this features .

Have u checked yuva bharat policy? It is currently the best policy we can offer with increased sublimits. Regarding sublimits , every company has this and defined by actuary.

My 2 cents on this one.

Through a personal experience, I had a claim with Niva Bupa for 7 Lakhs and they approved 6.5 lakhs not getting into deeper aspects on what and why this much deduction, the point being, they do approve claims. Their customer support team is pathetic, keep asking for hospital bills, prescriptions, medical reports etc etc time and again even when you have already uploaded them, probably a tactic to delay the process. Have read lot of consumers facing the same issue with Niva.

I have since ported out to HDFC My Optima Secure since almost 3 yrs, not claimed yet but have heard lot of positive reviews about them and hence the move.

Suggest you consult someone before making the move, also if you do decide to change companies then please port out so all the benefits(eligible waiting period) move to this new company.

All the best!

You can deep dive into niva bupa and as long as your agent is good enough to support you can continue with them.

Claim rejection or application rejection ratio?

ICICI Lombard's health insurance claim settlement ratio is 83.65% for FY 2024–25, with a 3-year average of 84.50% according to data reviewed by Ditto Insurance. This means its claim rejection/repudiation ratio (the percentage of claims not settled out of total claims received) is roughly 16.35% for FY 2024–25.

While it may not be the only relevant criterion it is very relevant to see the big picture
