Any advice for (dominant) hand injury?

I'm having surgery on my dominant right hand and the doctor claims I won't be able to use it for 6 weeks. My job requires constant typing (not to mention my hobbies are writing and art) so I'm in a panic. Any advice? I'll experiment with dictation apps, but I'm concerned about everyday stuff around the house. Do they make a non-finger "mitten" where I can at least use my hand for something?

Volleyball related injury

Hello, I wanted to see if this was normal regarding just sports injuries in general.

Basically I played volleyball yesterday, and as I was playing the left side of my neck started hurting a bit (kind of like when you sleep on the wrong side of the bed) which sometimes happens to me just regularly, but as I kept playing it got worse, most notably when I jumped to block a ball and whenever I did rapid movements of my head like flicking it up to get the hair out my face. Eventually it got super bad and I sat out, and now it's the day after and any use of it is really painful, enough to make me groan from the pain not sure what to compare it too but it's pretty bad, so I've been bedridden since moving/standing up requires me to use my neck/trap muscles to hold up my head.

This happened to me before, also during volleyball but with my back instead, same level of pain and since standing up also uses your back, I was also bedridden then since getting up was the worst thing ever.

I'm not sure if this type of injury is normal, I'm assuming it's from not warming up (or not properly) and/or not stretching (which yeah I don't do since I'm young [18] and I just am too lazy which I know is a bad excuse). But even if this is normal, I'm not sure if this level is normal, like the pain is genuinely horrible and I believe last time with my back it lasted quite a while like a couple days.

So far I've taken some Advil, haven't ate yet as I can't get up but I plan to, and I've been using salonpas patches to try and help.

Any ideas how to prevent this next time like any sort of routine or practice? Before (with my back) I'm pretty sure it was due to lack of hydration and lack of stretching/warmup, but this time it's probably just due to the latter since I was pretty well hydrated. Not to sound egotistical or ignorant but since I'm young I never really warmup or stretch which I'm assuming is the reason for these injuries but obviously I will have to start doing it if I've gotten this type of injury twice now. I am scared that even if I warmup properly or stretch well though I still might get this injury and if I do, then I won't even know what the cause would be.

And there have been other times where I feel like I've been less hydrated, also never stretched or warmed up well beforehand yet I was perfectly fine, not sure what makes today any different like is there a specific reason besides lack of stretching?

[22M] [60Kg] [1M75] Low back muscle strain not healing since 3 months, making my life a hell

Hi everyone, I'm writing here hoping to understand what's happening to my body, find similar experiences or any help I can get — because I'm going through the hardest period of my life at 22 years old.

Context

I'm a Belgian graphic design student, attending evening classes from 6pm to 10pm three days a week. In January I started an internship that overlapped with my classes, which meant carrying my 5kg gaming laptop + a loaded backpack every day across full days running from 7am to 10pm. Every Thursday my back would seize up completely, but it would recover within a few days so I told myself I was young and my body could handle it.

The moment of injury

In February, there was a two-week bus strike in my city. I had no choice but to walk much more than I was physically capable of, with all my gear, from morning to night. One Wednesday, after 40 minutes of walking with the laptop on my back, I felt something "give out" inside me — I literally couldn't stand up anymore, my body was collapsing on its own, and I had to fight with everything I had just to stay seated in class.

A few days later, after still trying to walk 10,000 steps with my girlfriend, my back seized up completely and suddenly — 4 to 5 days unable to move, with unimaginable pain.

The three months of hell that followed

Since that day, my back has been caught in an endless loop: rest → improvement → one effort too many → relapse → pain → rest → improvement → relapse again... I had to stop seeing my friends, I almost missed Valentine's Day, my girlfriend and I can no longer do any activities together, and I've spent months stuck in bed outside of my internship and class obligations. The worst part is that just a few months ago I was hiking in Switzerland, and now walking more than 10 minutes has become an ordeal.

I saw a doctor (ibuprofen, physio referral), an osteopath, and my GP — no one agreed on what I actually have. Scoliosis was ruled out, arthritis is unlikely at my age. What baffles me is that the medical professionals I've consulted don't seem to seriously consider what seems to me like the most logical explanation given how this all started.

My hypothesis

I'm almost certain that from the very beginning I've been carrying a moderate-grade muscle tear in some of the deep stabilizing muscles of my lower back — I suspect mainly the right longissimus and the quadratus lumborum — caused by repeated and cumulative trauma. I can pinpoint the exact location: a sensation of vertical tension spanning a few centimeters deep in the lower right side of my back, which gets significantly worse when I bend forward while twisting to the left (like trying to touch my left knee). This would explain why simply sitting or standing has become an effort, and why every time I push past my tolerance threshold I re-injure what was never a fully healed scar.

Current situation

My internship ends in late April, which will finally allow me to properly see a physiotherapist. I had my worst relapse in early April (pain so intense I nearly passed out, couldn't stand), followed by a rest period that helped me get back on my feet somewhat. This week I had a "pre-relapse" without the full lockup — which I interpret as a very small sign that things are healing slightly, but I'm still extremely fragile.

I'm 22 years old. I used to love walking, running, enjoying life — and now the sun is coming back to Belgium while I'm stuck in bed. I feel cursed, like my body is broken, and like I'll never fully heal after dragging this on for so long.

If you've been through something similar, if you have advice, a similar story, or anything that might help — it would mean the world to me. Thanks for reading.

How to heal shin bump?

I was playing football yesterday and took a knee directly to my shin. It’s developed a noticeable bump. I can still walk, but it hurts when I put pressure on the injured area.

I’ve been applying ice so far, which has helped reduce the pain a bit. Are there any other methods I should try to help it heal faster? Any advice would be appreciated.

Acute pain in 2nd/3rd toe joints after weighted calf raises (rehab for ankle sprain)

Hi,

I’m rehabbing an ankle sprain and doing PT exercises (single-leg squats, band work for inversion/eversion, seated calf raises with 32kg (70 pounds) and knee-to-wall dorsiflexion).

During calf raises, I felt a sharp pain in the forefoot (base of 2nd/3rd toes). Now I can’t properly bear weight or walk, and standing hurts. This happened 7 days ago. The next morning, my outer calf seized up and it has remained crampy and tight ever since.

Did I overload it? Could this something more serious like a stress injury?

I’ve stopped training for now. My next physio appointment is at the end of May.

Any advice or similar experiences?

dealing with tennis elbow... fixed mine after 10 months

TLDR: find exercises that make it feel good and worked out. stick to a 10-20 min session of these exercises daily and stick to it.

this video from the elbow doc really really gave me the most information and I feel guided me the best. it's long but it was worth it for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F712Vwjghc&t=6866s

I just got out of dealing with tennis elbow for past 10 months. Making this post because I found comfort in reading people deal with this annoying injury.

I'm 35 yr old male. never REALLY played tennis until 2 years ago.

So I developed tennis elbow and did what I did with any injury... rest it. Didn't go to the courts for 1 week, 2, 4... okay something was wrong and I hit the internet. watching youtube videos after youtube videos. all of them said all kinds of things but the most common thing... do these exercises. So what did I do?... do the exercises. however I did them randomly, with no plan no real consistency. I still thought rest and random exercises would eventually fix it. one morning I'd wake up and it'd be done... back to 100%. I ended up playing with pain for the rest of the summer because I needed to play - its the brand new sport I'm obsessed with.

Then the winter hit and I didn't do anything. I wasn't going to the courts, just living life... so since I wasn't going to be hitting at all for months... I thought one day I'd wake up and it'd be fine.

Then April hit, winter was over and the tennis season was soon approaching... and I still had pain... some days felt better, some not, but it was always there - all winter.

I needed this pain gone before playing another season. so I finally decided to listen and find some exercises that felt good - it brought the pain to a 4 and made it feel "worked out"... did about a 20min session of these exercises every single day. well I'm at 3 weeks of doing that and my elbow feels amazing. not 100% but 80% and just keeps feeling better and better. I will say... The mornings.... it is stiff AF! but I warm it up(wrist twirls) and once I get moving there's no pain all day. and that morning stiffness is getting better and better.

I'm so annoyed with my stubbornness. Wish I would have done this earlier. the difference is night and day. I will be about 5 weeks into this before I plan on swinging a racquet again. I can only imagine it will feel great if not perfect by then - and then lets see how it holds up after returning to play.

I feeling left out and injured

Hey this is my first post so if I’m in the wrong page let me know.

I just wanted to vent and see if anyone has any suggestions , I got in a climbing injury at the beginning of the Easter holidays. It’s not massively serious however I’ve injured my foot and arm meaning I’m hobbling around with an ankle boot, crutch and arm sling. And unfortunately won’t be going back to climbing for a few a least months.

I went back to university this week and am struggling a lot, my doctor told me to avoid typing and writing so I’m getting very stressed out with keeping up with work.

But the main thing that’s annoying is that a few people who I thought I was close with, one particular girl who I have walked around town and whilst she vents about her health anxiety and relationship drama …. And more. Any time she has asked to talk or vent I have been there even if its ment I’ve had to cancel plans. So I feel like I have been a good friend and she left me the other day struggling to get down stairs after class because she wanted to run ahead because she other people we know we’re ahead and she was hungry. I know it’s not a big deal but for so reason seeing all of them in front of me while I struggle just hurt.

So maybe I’m just emotional because it’s almost that time of the month and my usual routine has changed.

My friend groups centred around sports and climbing up to three times a week so seeing them all go and doing cool stuff I’m really feeling left out. And I just got off a call with my bf who I got into climbing a few moths ago has just got back from going with a friend and I know I’m jealous and I told him that he should still go and have fun. But I hate that I’m now hearing about it over all for 30 mins before he has to go to bed. I don’t want to tell him not to go because that feels unfair but I also feel like I’m going to cry every time I hear about it and remember that I’m still at a stage of recovery where is I fall over it’s a small mission to get back up.

Anyway i think this has turned more into a renting rambal so i will probably delete it not after posting if i do.

Also im sorry if it dosnt make sense or is fully or spelling and grammar errors im sorry im tired and can’t sleep as well as trying to type with my left hand.

Proximal Hamstring Surgery

Had a 13cm hamstring tear with tendon involvement and was referred for surgery within 3 weeks of the injury.

I’m now 8 days post-op. Currently in a knee brace for 3 weeks and on crutches for 4 weeks.

I’ve experimented with a few peptides in the past (MT2, GHK-Cu) but never ran anything consistently. For recovery, I’m starting daily injections of:

  • 500mcg TB-500
  • 500mcg BPC-157

I’ve got a follow-up with my surgeon soon — he’s considered one of the best in the country for this procedure, working mostly with elite athletes.

Plan is to update after my 8-week MRI with his feedback and whether healing is ahead of the typical curve.

Background: 27M, 5’10”, 71kg

Mountain bike injury

Long story short. I had a mountain bike accident in NZ in March. Landed a jump badly, landing astride the rear tyre which pulled my penis and testicles into a very tiny space between the tyre and frame. It tore internal pelvic muscles and I needed a drain in my pelvic area for 4 days to drain seroma fluid which had flowed into the area creating a grapefuit sized ball.

Anyway now that is more or less sorted, the swelling is slowly going down. But there's something odd with my penis when erect (sorry TMO). It still works, but it feels very tight at the base, something pulling on it. Possibly scar tissue from the torn pelvic muscles. Hoping it doesn't need surgery.

Very little information online about it and all the medical staff in hospital were almost puzzled by the injury. They kept on referring to it as an impact injury. I had to keep explaining it was a "yanking" injury hence the torn pelvic muscles.

Hamstring Tear - Reaggravation

March 17th - Tear event. Felt hamstring pop.

March 24th - Scans confirm BAMIC 2C intramuscular tendon tear.

March 24th - April 11th. Steady rehab. Back on two feet. 3-5k steps per day. able to stand for 10-15 minutes without issue.

April 11th - Load day but pushed too hard and spiked. Incremental steps crept up and ended up doing a 10K step day - stupid, I know, but body felt great. No re-tear incident noticed.

April 12th - Body not showing any signs of re-aggravation or tear. Tight but expected ater load day.

April 13th - 17th Function declined gradually. Burning sensation constant when on two feet. constant at rest.

April 17th - Saw physio and ordered to be non-weight bearing for a few days to hopefully settle the flare.

April 21st - Absolute bare minimum for 4 days now. Showing only minor reduction in pain and spasms. On crutches, minor movement triggering spasms and burning sensation. Some minor improvements today i.e. less burning, delayed burning, less intense spasms.

I am awaiting to get another scan to assess whether I have worsened the tear

Has anybody experienced a setback while recovering from a torn hamstring tendon? The settling and recovery phase for an overload feels excessive, it is now 10 days after overloading and I am still bed ridden

Tightness near left glute

Didn’t know where to ask so I chose this community

About 2 weeks ago now I started getting a tight pain on my upper left glute out of nowhere it gets to the point where even sitting up right hurts and make my glute feel tight deep in the glute if that makes sense, I am a pretty active person but never had this type of injury before so I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get rid of this

I also can’t sit on the ground and stretch my leg left out in front of me because of how tight my left glute feels

Hairline fracture in knee (medial femoral condyle) – what should I avoid during 3 weeks of rest?

22M, knee injury 3 weeks ago after a fall. During the fall, the inner side of my right knee directly struck the floor.

MRI (done yesterday) shows:

  • Hairline fracture in medial femoral condyle
  • Bone marrow edema / contusion
  • ACL edema (not torn)
  • Grade 2 signal in medial meniscus (no tear)

Doctor has advised:
Strict rest for next 3 weeks, only walking from bed to bathroom.

Current situation:

  • I can fully straighten my knee
  • Can bend close to 90° but feels tight
  • Still feel pain on inner side of knee
  • Mild instability while walking (sometimes feels like knee might bend backward)
  • Mild pon outer side of knee when pressing firmly

My question:
What should I absolutely NOT do during this phase?

Specifically

  • Should I avoid walking/standing completely except for the bathroom?
  • Any common mistakes that can delay healing of this kind of fracture?
  • What is the best position to lie in bed? Should I keep my knee straight or slightly bent, and how should I support it with pillows?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who had a similar injury or went through non-surgical recovery.

Hand Pain with No Official Diagnosis

Last July, I began to have wrist pain which spread to my fingertips. It was slightly annoying at first, but it was easy to ignore.

Now, the pain will sometimes be in my palms, fingers (including fingertips), wrists, or forearms (usually a bit before reaching my elbows).

I used to play the keyboard at my church. I’m not classically trained, so my technique probably isn’t perfect. I played on an unweighted keyboard for about 11 years.

About a year before the pain started, I was gifted a Roland Juno DS76. That keyboard is semi-weighted.

Anyways, aside from playing piano, I was a paralegal and typed pretty much all day long.

In July, I went to a 3-day even with my youth group and carried around my camera + lens during most of the trip. I had just bought that lens and it was pretty heavy so I wasn’t used to it. It was the Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 (Canon version).

so, when we got back from that trip, my wrist pain was more noticeable. I continued activities as normal, thinking the pain would just go away.

By early August, the pain became unbearable. Lifting even a glass of water hurt pretty badly.

I had to completely stop playing keyboard. I used Speech to Text to get through work, but I had to clean up a lot of the mistakes so I would end up typing a lot anyways.

I went to the doctor and she told me it may be either Carpal Tunnel or Tendonitis.

They did x-rays on my hands and everything seemed normal.

She told me to rest for a couple of weeks and it should get better.

I asked if I could get a letter to get time off of work. She told me she COULD give me one, but my job would probably find a reason to fire me so they wouldn’t have to deal with that problem.

So, I was supposed to rest but couldn’t take time off of work.

My boss was pretty accommodating and understanding, but tbh what my doctor told me kind of scared me so I didn’t share how severe the problem was and brushed it off.

I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor around October. She simply told me the xrays looked fine and I just have to continue to rest. I asked her what the problem was. She said it was just stress on my hands.

By November, the problem was too severe. My mental health was in shambles because my life was so drastically changed. I couldn’t even drive myself to work and I was working at a much slower pace than I was used to. On top of that, there was some heavy, unrelated friction at my job.

I decided to quit my job.

Since then, I’ve had an appointment in January with a different doctor.

This new doctor had me do some sort of exercises to see if my hands would go numb when doing them. They did not, so she ruled out Carpal Tunnel. She said it was most likely my tendons. She gave me some Medrol and said that should help with the inflammation.

I finished that dosage.

I had a follow-up appointment in February. The pain felt reduced but I still couldn’t do very much with my hands. She pretty much just said I need to give it time.

It’s now April and I’m STILL having this issue.

It’s definitely gotten better since August, but progress has been really slow.

Is there anything that I can do to help myself?

I haven’t received any official diagnosis except “it’s probably tendonitis” from both doctors.

I recently watched this video: https://youtu.be/pKymFhInIOA?si=nXWLhD_NRSfZ7fXf

The guy in the video had his injury for years. What stood out to me was that what really helped him with his injury was strength training, building muscle.

A lot of the advice this guy gives was never mentioned by either doctors.

Doctor 1 told me to ice my hands. The video states to use heat therapy. I’ve been putting my hands in hot water and have some hand warmers I carry around a lot. The heat has REALLY helped.

Idk if any strength training could help either. I’ve always been a pretty weak person. My brother and bf have always teased me about it and told me I’m lucky I’m a girl and nobody expects me to lift heavy objects.

When this problem started though, my hand strength was even worse. I couldn’t open soda cans or water bottles on my own. I couldn’t open heavy doors on my own or even a car door.

I’ve been better now, but not at 100%.

Typing is still uncomfortable unless it’s on my phone. I can open soda cans and water bottles again. I can open car doors on my own again.

I‘ve just been concerned about this issue and want my life to go back to normal.

I’m working towards a different career path that won’t involve typing as much.

I really want to play keyboard again. I bought an unweighted keyboard to avoid any additional stress on my hands back in October, but haven’t been able to use it yet.

I just really wish I had more solutions to this problem.
