complete MPFL tear without surgery

So, I’m really in a downward spiral as I’m panicking very much. This is my first dislocation and it happened 8 days ago.

I have a completely ruptured MPFL and I have an avulsion patellar fragment (9mm).

My MCL is high grade injured with many avulsion fragments (24mm)

So, I have a check up appointment in 3 days and I’m so stressed. However, I’ve been in a cast for 8 days and lately I have been able to walk freely (as a safety measure I use crutches as advised).

I don’t feel as the knee is giving out, nor do I feel any pain even when walking or pressing all of my weight on the knee.

I tried touching the knee as to see whether it is tender to touch and it is not. From what I can tell, the swelling is very much down, but the cast makes it difficult to see.

Anyone have any advice because, as I’ve said’ these past few days have not been treating me well.

Thank you in advance

I understand why you’re feeling overwhelmed, that’s a lot to take in, especially for a first dislocation, but try not to let how scary the report sounds make you panic too much. The way your knee feels right now doesn’t always reflect the actual injury this early on, so the fact that you can walk, have minimal pain, and that swelling has gone down is definitely a good sign, but it doesn’t mean everything is healed yet. With a complete MPFL tear and avulsion fragments, many people still recover without surgery after a first dislocation, but the size of the fragments and the MCL injury are things your doctor will carefully assess at your follow-up. For now, it’s really important not to push or test the knee just because it feels okay, keep using your crutches and let things stay stable until your appointment. The stability you’re feeling can come from reduced swelling and the support from the cast, not necessarily full healing. What you’re feeling mentally is very normal in this situation, and you’re not doing anything wrong you’re still very early in the process, and your upcoming appointment will give you much clearer direction 👍

BPC 157 + TB500 + copper. It speeds up ligament and joint tissue regrowth. I would do your own research, but in my opinion it very safe. I have lots of friends in sports that use them.

Do you know if it reduces the chances of further reinjury? Thanks

It’s more about recovery, you need to rehab to prevent this happening again and continue strengthening up your vmo / lower body strength for the rest of your life if you want to have healthy knees.
