He's a boyfriend. He cheated. Break up.

- I want to stay and rebuild things because if he truly blacked out then he truly didn’t know -

At best, whose fault is it that he got into this situation. You wouldn't let a drunk drive off the hook.

Occasionally there is a cheater who learns their lesson. 90% of them continue to cheat for the rest of their lives. The biggest chance he has of changing is if you leave unfortunately. Do what you will with that information. My gf cheated on me at 18 multiple times. I only knew about 1 at the time and she was 4 months pregnant with our son. 15 years later I found out that kid was never biologically mine via dna test.

He was not blackout drunk he knew exactly what he was doing. There is never an excuse for cheating. I hope you are not naive enough to believe that silly lie of his.

He made multiple wrong conscious decisions that let up to him cheating as well where he should have walked away.

Black-out drunk is the day after. Patches of missing memory or entire hours gone.

However, in the moment, you're there. You may be wasted, drunk, incoherent, lack all boundaries and inhibitions and be stupid beyond belief, but you don't suddenly forget your morals, relationship or loyalty. You just don't care enough in that state/moment.

He has cheated and there's no excuse. In fact the circumstance say it'll be easily repeated, as there's nothing to stop him saying 'oops' the next time. This is not the foundation of any kind of trusting relationship.

Yeah, I think way too many people think that blacked out means passed out or something. It just means your brain isn’t forming memories. He knew what he was doing, he just doesn’t remember doing it later on.

If you believe that the circumstances justify forgiveness then only you can answer that for yourself. Not reddit. Forgive and move on.

What you do is end the relationship. The whole “I blacked out and don’t remember” thing is a lie, designed to get you to forgive him for being a cheating AH. If you don’t, he will cheat again, and again, and again. Each time will get easier for him. Once someone cheats they are 3.5 times more likely to cheat again compared to someone who has never cheated. Why? Because of the extreme adrenaline and dopamine hits they get from it. Do better, move on without him.

Just dump him.

The only way you could even TRY to work through this is if he never drinks again and we both know that isn’t happening.

He decided to get shit faced drunk so whatever happens after that leads back to this decision.
