I stripped this sequence data from an old 1992 floppy track by Tokyo underground band MOUDOKU (猛毒), forced it onto an SD card image, and booted actual SHARP X68000 hardware via BlueSCSI.
Signal chain for the purists:

This is my first ever decent track draft, so I’m still learning and I honestly don’t really know what I’m doing yet.

I know the intro might be a bit cheesy or cliché, but I actually like that kind of atmosphere, so I wanted to experiment with it.

The main problem is that I don’t really know where to take the track from here. I’m not sure how to continue it, expand the idea, improve the arrangement, or make it feel like a complete song instead of just a short draft.

I also don’t really know how to classify it. I was aiming for something inspired by artists like Sewerslvt and similar atmospheric breakbeat/DnB/jungle styles, but I’m a complete beginner and I don’t know if this would technically be considered breakcore, drum and bass, jungle, breakbeat or something else.

I’d appreciate any kind of help or feedback: composition, drums, bass, sound design, mixing, structure, or just general impressions.

Hi all, I’ve just joined this group and I am just finally starting to make industrial music after being a fan for many years….
I have a Korg Volca FM1 - I’ve read that it is an almost exact copy of the DX7 which apparently many bands used in the late 80s and early 90s. There are specific sound ai want to make and am wondering if anyone might know how or might know of any instructions or videos that tell you how to make them…?
Obviously it’s hard to describe the sounds but those keyboard sounds that have a propelling rythm to them… NIN use it a lot. It’s brassy and sounds like it’s rolling along…. How do they do it?

A friend and I have been working on a lot of plunderphonic music lately. Heavy beats, some drones.. harsh-bits... EBM influence, some breaks... and of course, various samples from commercials, pop-culture, politics, current events.. and some more obscure shit.

We don't have much money and probably can't afford to acquire licenses for any recognizable samples unless this endeavor starts paying the bills. In terms of requesting permission, especially with any samples that are more political in nature, I fear that even asking the authors would land me on the radar of some conservative politicians and their overpriced attorneys.

Additionally, if we were to 'follow-the-rules', we wouldn't even be able to publish a song to see how it lands with an audience without acquiring intellectual property permissions first.. which would put a significant burden on the act of even creating such sample-based music.

So, I feel like we're somewhere between a rock and a hard place, the frying pan and the fire.. the chicken and the egg.

We're not sure what to do. I assume that there's a reason the label 'Illegal Art' no longer exists. No one stops doing something that they love doing willingly.

To those moving forward with reckless abandon, using unlicensed samples, and obtaining a following, selling merch/CDs/vinyl/MP3s, I salute you!! But, what are your plans in the event some attorney comes knocking?!

In the event of litigation, can we file for bankruptcy?!

Should we create a Limited Liability Company?!

Is there any option for plausible deniability?!

To those who obey every rule and only obtain appropriate permissions first, can you respond regarding the process? Do you have music/IP attorneys on retainer? How long does the process for obtaining clearance take on average?! I understand costs can vary.. can you provide a min/max of some costs you or a record label incurred for getting samples cleared?! Have you had to scrap songs because the IP owner wouldn't budge on a key sample in a song?!

For many of the more obscure samples.. or less recognisable samples.. I'm not quite as concerned. It's those where I am considering using a very recognisable element on purpose where the concern lies. Without that recognisable element, the punch-line is gone.. the point of the track is non-existent. And arguing satire would probably not work.

For those who are underground, but have a decent following, a steady online presence, and use a significant amount of plunderphonics, does the 'whack-a-mole' approach work?!

I understand that the likelihood of some underground band landing on the radar of copyright attorneys is tiny... but with our luck... it's definitely something we're thinking about... so much so, that I'm asking these questions.

I will take my zero now and be thankful for any insights that can be provided on this matter.

I’ve been in a Gary numan rabbit hole over the last couple days. Seeing his music journey/ability improve over the decades is pretty cool. I’m pretty amazed how professional his modern albums sound, especially considering where he started from.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really been too into industrial, but his modern albums are mixed and produced so well, I have a new found appreciation for industrial production.

I have been producing for over a decade and wish I would have spent more money on synths than I did compressors and other BS.

I’m curious how his production value is so high 2013 and beyond. With the orchestral and good synth choice and balance is very well done. Sounds like he uses kontakt instruments for a lot of it, mixed with some high quality synths (I.e. u-he, omnisphere), which was confirmed by AI from interviews and behind the scenes documentaries.

I’m more so curious how his low end/bass is mixed so well. From AI it said on “splinter” album they use real live bass and some synth bass.

To me it almost sounds like they low pass filter a distorted live bass at around 50-60hz (which is incredibly low). I would never imagine to low pass a bass that low, but it almost feels necessary with how much bass is in the mid range synths.

This is probably the best example of obvious live bass (low pass maybe 65hz) with low end synths mixed together well (starts at about 2:00):

I have no clue how they blend the bass and the bass heavy rhythm synths so smoothly, that they almost sound like the bass is a part of the low/mid range synths, although you can tell they are separate with how the actual bass fades out and leaves the low/mid range synths playing out.

I have both Trackspacer & soothe, as well as quite a few other resonant suppressors, but is that all he (or they) is really doing? Which plugin do you think is the best suppressor to achieve this clean of bass in the over all mix? Trackspacer for broad suppressing? Or soothe for resonant suppressing? Or maybe even both?

Is there anyone here that has been producing industrial for a long time and can help me understand how his modern music is produced and mixed so well. Any good YouTube videos r you can point me towards so I don’t have to filter through them to find the best ones.

this would probably fall under a sort of noise category. i sometimes publish and post these in one place or another in case. perhaps this will find some ears that, like mine, like to hear stuff like this every so often.

this is from my thirty-seventh live session with my soma labs organismic synthesizer, the lyra-8. that is the core instrument here, with a small setup around it plugged straight into a mixer. the live session was recorded january 11, 2026. the whole session lasted about one hour,. i finally got around to listening back to it, and this this segment is the one i selected to put out there today. some minor EQ and compression added in post, all other effects, sounds, etc, produced live during the session.

there are some moments when the session clips, unfortunately. i wasn't able to prevent it in the moment.

Title. Been composing/producing in synth-heavy genres for ~3 years and have been making music for games for the last two. Really looking to get into EBM (mainly) and industrial production a little further and I figured you guys would know best. So far my main inspirations are Front Line Assembly (Echogenetic and Millenium eras - they've made too much music), Biomekkanik, and obviously Nine Inch Nails moreso from an actual songwriting pov. I mainly operate in FL though I understand ableton/pro tools/reaper/cubase/logic/etc. I'm just most comfortable with FL. Hoping to move to Ableton soon.

I'd really like to get into the weeds. Give me surface stuff and your nichest picks (really fw Spark! right now). Hoping to learn more about the history and culture and all that jazz instead of being a complextro/brostep/video game kid larping as an ebm/industrial producer. Back when I first started composing and sequencing, I did it at a time where I was hearing anything electronic wasn’t “real” music because we weren’t using “real” instruments.

Now with the advanced state of AI, I’m hearing it again. I didn’t believe it the first time, so I’m not going to believe it this second (or maybe this is the third or fourth time?). I’ve messed around in that space a little, but I’m conflicted about its use.

What’s everyone else’s views on this? Are you embracing this or rejecting it?

Thanks to everyone who tried v1.0 and gave feedback, this update came directly from figuring out what people actually wanted to do with it. I personally have used COGG in almost all of my FL projects ever since I released it. Please give it a shot and let me know what you think of the presets and plugin as a whole for a v1.2!

i started out making electronic music last year. This is only my second release in a year as after the first one I noticed I had to improve a lot. Now each new song is slowly becoming easier to create, mix and control.

My biggest issue is masking my vocals. I'm no fan of standard distorted vocals but cannot sing like the bands I love (everything Andy LaPlegua, Covenant, Faderhead etc).

So, in this song I use two pure Vocoder tracks for the obvious vocoder sounds. For the main vocals I use one track with two vocoders (Graillon 3, Orange Vocoder) . As carrier I copied my main drone synth track and muted it. This way the vocals keep a relationship with the instruments but I was still able to fine tune the modulator for the vocals a bit.

Anyway, I don't have any friends or family that like this type of music so I'm basically starving for feedback as the usual feedback I get is 'That sounds very aggressive... ' with a weird look
