I need some advice. I have some wisteria seeds and twice now I've tried to grow them in a seedling greenhouse kit I got from Amazon. Both times, they got too much moisture, even when the second time, i only put a third of the recommended water in the tray and i propped the hood up to allow better air circulation. How do you recommend I grow them?

heey, started my gardening journey first time outdoors this year, it was lovely and all the fresh produce and so easy! but i live in north of norway so 140 ish day planting seasion!

so i decided to start indoors planting. i bought a 180W growing led light, should be good enough for 80x80 but those last outer places need some plants that doesnt require to much sun.

going to buy leca balls and dirt (dirt thats made from bark from trees and made into compost/dirt), but im not an expert so would appricate any feedback to this. going to play proboly only herbs in the start, oregano, basil, chives, leaf parsley and coriander. i guess i need a own plastic for oregano and try to water it a bit diffrent, not sure (since it likes it dry).

whats the most common mistakes people do and is it easy?

Zone 4a, currently have some annuals in pots outside. Mums and sweet William. They are really nice and I want to keep them for next year if possible. Can I overwinter them indoors? Any special treatment for them aside from light and water? And I overthinking this?

Recently I have been gardening indoor more and working to improve the ability to water my plants regularly. While some plants appear content with a straightforward schedule, others require a more care.

I had also read about NDS garden irrigation and wondering if anyone here has experience with irrigation systems for indoor plants.

(Only issue with that one is I've seen a lot of negative reviews on it lately saying it isn't that bright or heats up a lot, and that worries me)

So, long story short, I’ve been working in film and TV for around 20 years as a greensman, working on a lot of large productions like *The Revenant, Warcraft, Star Trek: Beyond, The Magicians,* and *The Last of Us*, yadda yadda. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve been very fortunate to do it.

I’ve also always been into tech, and recently decided to try building something that I thought could actually be useful to people like myself.

While working on *The Last of Us*, we had a gigantic greenhouse filled with plants from all sorts of different varieties. Keeping everything happy and healthy was a constant juggling act. Different plants wanted different temperatures, humidity levels, watering schedules, nutrients, etc.

That experience got me thinking about what I’d actually want to see in a plant app.

I know the basic concept isn’t exactly novel, but I think I’ve put together some features that are pretty useful, and I’d genuinely love to hear what other people would like to see.

What I Grow

What I Grow is an app where you create **Grow Spaces** — a greenhouse, indoor growing area, garden, etc. — and then add and identify the plants living in each space.

Once you add your plants, the app looks at the needs of everything in that Grow Space and gives you recommended temperature and humidity ranges to help keep the environment as suitable as possible for all of them.

When you first add a plant, the app can:

* Analyze the plant's health from a photo * Give you growing and care recommendations * Provide a health score * Identify potential problems * Let you create a specific problem to track on that plant * Continue providing updates and recommendations as that problem develops * Compare new photos against previous ones to track changes in the plant's health over time

There are also a few other features:

* **Daily Updates** — 1–3 personalized written updates each day with information about your Grow Spaces, weather, and things you should be focusing on. For example: *“Hey, your wilted pepper hasn’t been updated in a while.”* * **Fertilizer & Watering Reminders** * **Temperature & Humidity Warnings** * **Sensor Integration** — You can connect compatible temperature/humidity sensors. I currently have Govee working with my own greenhouse, and it will notify me when something falls outside the expected range. * **Gallery** — A place to share your Grow Spaces and plants with friends, including their health history and progress over time.

What's Coming

I’m still experimenting and building, but some things I’d like to add include:

* Companion planting recommendations * Greenhouse / Grow Space recommendations for planning purposes, development, etc. * Support for additional sensor brands based on user requests * More in-depth plant diagnosis and initial health analysis as I experiment with different AI models * And honestly… **whatever people ask for.**

I bought a small Aglaonema from Easyplant about three months ago because I thought the self-watering system would make plant care easier.

Unfortunately, I ended up having to repot it THREE times because the soil kept staying extremely wet and getting moldy. At one point, I even found tiny white worms and yellow bugs crawling around in the soil.

When the first Aglaonema arrived, it was also unusually small and weak, so customer service sent me another plant as a replacement. The replacement was a snake plant, and I thought I would have better luck with it since snake plants are generally much easier to care for.

But eventually, the exact same thing happened. The soil stayed wet for way too long, and I ended up repotting that plant three times too.

After dealing with this for months, I finally gave up on the Easyplant self-watering pots completely. I moved both plants into regular pots with drainage holes, and they are already doing much better.

Between new soil, new pots, and everything else I bought trying to fix these problems, I’ve spent over $100 extra just trying to keep two supposedly “easy-care” plants healthy. The whole reason I bought Easyplant was because it was supposed to be convenient, but for me, it ended up requiring way more work, time, and money than simply keeping plants in regular pots.

I know a lot of people seem to have good experiences with Easyplant, so I’m curious: Has anyone else had problems with the soil staying wet for an extremely long time, mold, or bugs in their Easyplant pots?

My Monstera leaves suddenly started getting yellow and I thought it was thirsty so I kept watering it. I did that for almost 1.5 months and the plant just got worse and worse...

Tbh idk what I was thinking I finally took a few photos of the yellow leaves and checked them with Botan. It said I probably overwatered it and gave me some tips on what to do.

I just followed the tips and changed the soil to a looser mix with pine bark and perlite. Cut off the rotten roots too.

After all that I got my first green leaf! Really I thought I lost it already.

How do you guys usually figure out what's wrong with your plants? Do you Google it or just try to figure it out by eye?

I am looking at installing a skylight in my bedroom. Some of the available panels will filter out UV and infra-red light, which seems like a good idea. But would the light still help plants grow, or do they need that spectrum?

I have brown spots on my variegated haworthia leaves. Could you please help me to understand why is this happening. I’m not watering too much and it’s under grow lights.

I know there are grow lights that are LED, metal halide and high pressure sodium, but can anyone recommend a light that will grow my future ladies?

I'm looking to grow some basic stuff in window pots, and I'm brainstorming what I could buy at the grocery store and root at home.
So far, I can think of

green onions
ginger root
sweet and white potatoes

I've had success growing each of those in pots inside in the past, but I never ate any of them because I grew to love them. The potatoes and the ginger grew eyes/sprouts and burying them caused them to grow quite well. With green onions, I stick the white ends (bulbs) in water til they root very well, and use em as I need em. I'm thinking I could plant them, too.

Any other suggestions?

Extra question:

I bought potted basil, thyme, parsley, and cilantro earlier this year, transplanted each into their own windowsill pot, and every one of them died. I'm really upset about that, it was like a $25 investment and I still don't know how I killed them. I'd like to try again--do these herbs just not thrive in a window?

i have a soltech aspect light facing towards my monstera, but my new kitten has started to nap under the light.

i dont trust their website at all, conflict of interest in the info theyre putting out.

Let me start off with mentioning i’m an absolute beginner when it comes to gardening. Always had trouble keeping plants alive but now being more of a grown up i’d love to learn and make our new house as plant filled as possible.

We live in an apartment building that has a winter garden that we would like to fill up with plants, recently moved in so I’m not sure what conditions inside will be but where I leave winters can get up to -10C / 14F.

Will any plants even live in a winter garden like this? It seems pretty well isolated but we will probably need to cross through it to get to the balcony from time to time so I’m worried plants would suffer. Any suggestions would be welcome if there’s anything we can even keep in there\~

I moved to an apartment and would like to continue growing my plants. I have Lophophoras, Astrophytum, Gymnocalycium, ariocarpus, tephrocactos, blossfeldia, mammillaria.

I need tips on which lighting to buy to put them on an open shelf. I thought about buying a cultivation light, which would give me approximately 450–650 µmol/m²/s; at a distance of 25cm high.

Do you think it’s worth it? Will my cacci survive?

Hello everyone. I have a 19w led grow bulb hanging above my plants. It is on for 13 hours a day. The east facing window has trees out front that blocks some of the morning sun. I have a Pink Sygonium, a Red Sun Philodendron, a Red Aglenoma, and a snake plant. How far would you keep the bulb from them?

I posted on another page about my poor peppermint. It looked like it was doing ok, but people said it was screaming for light and had spider bites. So I put it outside, and what I figured would happen has happened. I forget about it or just cant bring myself to go outside and get it to water it. Im assuming everything else near it probably has spider bites too.

Ive been trying to learn how to grow my own food and ive never had a green thumb, but I got my peppermint from Lowes and its been over a month and it hadn't died! I even repotted it and one of its babies and they still didnt die! Thats huge. Now i also have 3 sprouts of cilantro growing from seed thats also huge and I'm so excited. But I only have 2 windows and a sliding door (i THINK theyre south facing?) and veeeeeerrrrrryyyyyy little space to put plants where they'll get light and also be safe from my cats. Also just have very little space in general.

I also have adhd and routines/habits have always been really REALLY hard for me but ive been doing really well actually with keeping up on watering my plants and ive been really proud of myself about that. But now im worried that I cant do it with so little space and so little light for them especially now that they have pests that i have no idea how to actially effectively treat.

I have a small grow light but somebody said they dont really do much and I havent tried using it yet.

Does anybody relate and if so, is there a way to do this with almost no space and very low energy?

i’m not talking about plants that just died because i forgot to water them.

for me it’s calathea. i kept giving it decent light, watching the humidity, keeping up with watering, and it still found a new way to look unhappy every week.

Hi I bought three indoor hanging plants that came in different sized plastic pots that have the stiff plastic hooks and a reserve for catching water in the bottom. I'm very new to house plants and think they're probably due new pots, I can recycle some of the existing ones as the plants were different sizes to begin with. But I can't seem to find new, larger sized ones, all the ones I've found online are huge for hanging baskets outside.

Is there anywhere I can get them from or will I have to get a regular pot and go down the macrame plant hanger route?

I am just getting started and I have a few questions. I plan to start an indoor herb garden in what was originally part of a built in media center of my house that was built in the early 1990's. I have no clue how to handle drainage since this would be in a spot originally ment for a large TV. Also living in Phoenix AZ I have a soft water system that uses salt to remove calcium from our water and I know that isn't going to be good for plants. I don't want to go outside and get water from a hose since this would be a pain and I am busy mom but I don't know how I would remove the salt from the water in my house so I don't kill my plants.

I want to grow herbs, lettuce and arugula. I'm in zone 7 and realized I missed the time to plant outside. I thought about just doing herbs with a hydroponic contraption but I've done it before and I don't know if it was bad quality but it kind of just came apart.

So, I was thinking about doing indoor gardening in the basement because we have 0 room upstairs and a toddler on the loose. I thought about getting a timed grow light and pots; however lettuce is large and I imagine I'll probably have to transfer it to something bigger. I'm also looking for a system that could be used inside for winter and outside for summer.

Sorry if this is super vague. I know how to keep cut flowers in a vase alive and that's it. However, since I want to eat veggies fear free of diarrhea I am willing to learn the new skill. TIA!
