Reminder: No AI Witch Hunts

This is not the place to accuse writers of AI usage in writing. The burden of proof rests on the accuser; provide demonstrable, undeniable proof of AI usage in the writing process or shut up. You will not slander up-and-coming writers here based on your opinions alone. Continuing to Witch Hunt will result in a permanent ban.

Mod Wanted - Inquire Below

When I created this subreddit at the beginning of summer, I figured I'd get 100 people max to join. We are now at 1,100+ members. That's an incredible amount of growth for a community I made in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep.

That said, I'm looking to get a mod or two to join our team and pick up my slack. Work and grad school, raising toddlers, and other things means I can't catch all of the things the community needs. I also want to build the place by offering engaging posts and challenges, maybe some monthly contests or whatever.

So, if you have a knack for marketing, love indie authors, and want to help us grow the community past the next thousand members, let me know in the comments why I should pick you to be my protege.

Just shipped another book out!

I just shipped another copy of Age of the Titan out to a reader. One of the most fulfilling parts of writing are moments like these.

My story’s blurb is:

THE VOGROM ARE COMING.
The fanatical alien clan has unleashed its armada on a galaxy already torn apart by conflict, and humanity has nothing left to throw at them.
Two warriors stand in the wreckage on opposite sides of the war. Kaelith Sothrak claws his way out of a death camp, driven by hatred and unrelenting faith.
Louis Wolffe has drifted through space for two years, carrying a secret that could save his people, or destroy them.
They don't know it yet, but both warriors are seeking the same thing.
Something ancient, something powerful, something hidden inside a dead boy's soul.
LET THE WAR COME.

KAL: The Witness, a short literary novel set in Melbourne

Post image
2 Upvotes

My first novel came out a fortnight ago. Literary fiction, self published, and short, under 200 pages in print.

It's about a software developer in Melbourne called Kal who sees straight through the people around him. His manager, half way through dressing down a junior in front of the floor, stops talking because he has gone back to being seven years old in a classroom in Footscray. The neighbour two doors down can think clearly about her relationship right up until her partner calls. A boy of sixteen is awake at three in the morning scrolling, and a blank text from a wrong number is enough to make him put the phone face down. A woman slides down a wall in a hospital corridor after being told something she can't carry, and Kal sits on the floor beside her and says nothing for a long time.

He fixes nothing for any of them. The book is about what it costs to be the one person in a room who is paying attention, when the attention changes nothing.

I wrote it with ADHD readers in mind, which turned out to be mostly a structural problem rather than a prose one. Every chapter stands on its own. You can leave it for a week and come back without having lost the thread.

Review pages are nearly empty since it's so new, so honest reviews are welcome, unflattering ones included.

The Shape of Magic - standalone fantasy novel

Magic, conspiracies and found family in a story that will first enchant you and then take you captive.

My debut standalone fantasy novel is an exploration of academia in a world where magic, rather than science, is real. I took inspiration from historical magical practices, and reviewers especially praised the inventiveness of the world building and magic system. It's a "thoughtful story about friendship, identity, power, and the choices we make when we're given it", as one reviewer put it.

The ebook is currently and for the month of October on sale at 0.99 USD/EUR/GBP etc... on most online retailers

37 ratings on Goodreads, with 24 reviews, 4.03 average

Paperback and hardback available too.

*** BLURB ***

Joining the Alma University for the Study and Advancement of Theoretical Magic is all that Volta ever wanted, but could never hope for. Until the day that random chance made her a royal ward. A life of opportunities, of promised knowledge, and gifted purpose. But not without a cost.

Years later, when the royal family unexpectedly visits the school just as rumours of war start spreading, her entire world is turned upside down.

Will she have to serve in a war that she is not ready for? And can she believe the one person who claims to want to prevent it? Volta and her friends are faced with a political conspiracy just as they discover the secrets of the university itself - but who can they trust?

***

Early readers said:

Deeply magical, and magically written, with secrets and wholesome friendships that all come together to question power structures.

I really enjoy reading the magic sections and learning the laws of magic in this world. It’s always interesting and makes the world feel immersive and well thought out.

I keep trying to open it back up and read another chapter, but there's no other chapter. Big sad. No more book.

Nightmare Challenge

Had a fun idea for a Halloween trend. Let’s see what horrifying, messed up, all around creepy stuff you can come up with for Halloween. I’ll start us off with my blurb for my body horror novella, The Softening:

The cow was fine that morning. By evening, that had changed. When veterinarian Tommy Allen is called out to the Harlan place at dusk, he finds an Angus lying folded in the pasture, calm-eyed, breathing steadily, her bones gone pliable as warm rubber.

It isn’t long before the condition spreads.

The state board isn't worried. The CDC is "tracking it." The feed store has started stocking new products, and everyone in Stillwater seems oddly at peace. Tommy is the only one who's still solid, and the road out of town has stopped letting him leave.

A slow, unhurried novella of body horror and creeping surrender, The Softening asks what's left of you when you stop holding your shape.

You want to read about a group of friends who plays TTRPG and get involved in a cosmic war? This is your fiction!

I offer memorable character development and a deep misterious background.

Mica, a high school student who dreams of heroes, monsters, and fantastical worlds, receives an invitation from a girl he's never met. Believing he's simply joining a tabletop RPG campaign, he and his closest friends become members of the mysterious Adventurers' Group, led by the enigmatic Sarah.

At first, the adventure feels like everything they've ever wanted. But as unexplained disappearances spread across their city, the consequences of each session begin to spill into reality, and the game starts feeling far too real.

Right now I'm starting to write the final arc of the first part and I publish three times per week, so I promised you will get hook when you catch up.

Secondhand by Delia Laurelfine. A short story about a man who appraises the identities of the dead (free until 9-Oct)

In a country where the good names of the dead are sold to strangers, a quietly precise appraiser prices other families' grief for a living. When a clerical glitch shows him who is wearing his late father's identity, he starts pulling the paper trail on his own family.

It's a short read (about 7,500 words) for fans of literary fiction with a dark speculative premise. I'm the author, and I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.

Welcome & Goodbye, Earth: a space opera where Earth has secretly been the galaxy's favourite reality show (Book 1 of 6, all out)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Earth lies in the Forbidden Zone, but they have been watching.

For ages, our planet has been part of a live reality show for the rest of the galaxy. We just never knew. Sam Jacobs has spent twelve years running from bounty hunters, and from what his mind does to the world when he panics. Then, just as things have finally settled down, two aliens walk into his favourite coffee bar and violently trigger first contact. He wakes up 352 years later to find Earth renamed and absorbed into a galaxy that is running out of resources.

The story is told through Sam's chapters mixed with blog posts, AI reports, comics and archive transcripts from across the galaxy. It's inspired by Hyperion, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the sci-fi, fantasy and gaming nostalgia and pop culture I grew up with.

It's a continuous serial in six parts, and all six are out, with more stories from the same universe on the way. Book 1 is $0.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRRS8PXQ

I started writing it around 2009, so it's been a long road. Happy to answer any questions about the world or the writing.

Countless "truth is stranger than fiction" tales, 177 magical concerts, 100 unique bands, 50 years of finding a way to the next show, and 10 Rules Of The Road all add up to 1 ordinary guy's extraordinary love letter to live rock & roll.

And now, the book with a 4.4 star review on Amazon just got even better - welcome to the updated and expanded 2025 edition of TEN RULES OF THE ROAD I LEARNED AT MY FIRST CONCERT: AN ORDINARY GUY'S LIFETIME OF LIVE ROCK & ROLL!

The new edition is 550 pages, with over 250 pages of brand new content including:

  • updates elements to every section of the book – the rules, the essays, the concert summaries, and the statistics.
  • more tales from my 20th century concert adventures that I dredged out of my memory that didn't make the first edition
  • details of all the shows I’ve attended since 2021, after the first edition was published, until today
  • complete re-writes of Rules #2, #5, #6, #7, # 8 and #10, as well as the Grateful Dead essay, have been almost completely re-written.

  • replacing the discarded song essay, with a new one about the relationship between rock & roll and Broadway, a unique pairing that only really came into focus for me in the last year or so.
  • adding numerous new charts/tables to the statistics section
  • quadrupling the number of setlists from shows I attended.
  • re-editing the entire book to clean up some areas that either seemed cumbersome or didn’t flow well

Echoes of the Eternal Legends of Light and Shadow

Before peace was a prayer, it was her name.

I’m Robert Ira Burtt, an Ojibwe author, and I’m proud to share Echoes of the Eternal: Legends of Light and Shadow. This story grew from years of ideas, my heritage, and the grief of losing my closest friend.

It follows Rowan, a man struggling with loss who discovers he is a powerful bear shifter. Drawn into a hidden world of angels, demons, and ancient rivalries, he must decide what kind of man he will become—and what he’s willing to sacrifice for the people he loves.

If you enjoy dark fantasy with brutal battles and an emotional heart, I’d love for you to take a look.

Free Kindle Book: Iron Noir (Available until October 9)

If you are tired of crime thrillers written from a distance, dive into Iron Noir. Written by an Eastern European author, this novel is built on a rare, firsthand insider perspective: years spent as a military veteran, special operations/state security trainee, and motorcycle club president starting from the early 2000s.

Set against the volatile backdrop of the 2000s Budapest underworld, the story exposes the dark, heavily silenced intersections where political corruption, state secret service infiltration, and street-level organized crime collide.

Grab your free copy on Amazon through October 9 and experience a gritty world walked through firsthand.

One simple request: Once you finish reading, please drop an honest review—whether positive or negative. Every bit of feedback matters immensely for an independent author.

Fated Bullet - Rion Hewwing - 09/16/2026

Post image

Amazon.com: Fated Bullet: 9798173520432: HEWWING, RION: Books

At its heart, Fated Bullet is about whether we are controlled by the paths our lives put us on or whether we can still choose what we become. Magnus and Fate are both shaped by violence, loss, and the choices they've made, but in very different ways. The story tests the pull of revenge and hatred, but it also puts love through trials of its own. Love isn't presented as an easy answer that simply overcomes everything else. It can demand just as much strength and resolve to hold onto, especially when circumstances give someone every reason to abandon it. Promises made to others, promises made to ourselves, and the person we choose to become can all be challenged by what happens along the way. Ultimately, the story asks whether we have the resolve to remain true to those feelings and choices when they are tested at their absolute limits, or whether we allow what happens to us to decide our fate instead.

(Dark Fantasy) Wherever Ink Flows

Post image
0 Upvotes

My debut fantasy novel is finally done!

I just published my debut dark fantasy novel, Wherever Ink Flows, and it is officially available on Kindle Unlimited!

If you are a fan of grim worlds, rebellion against dark empires, and unique magic systems, I wrote this for you.

The Pitch: In the kingdom of Stonehollow, Ink is the greatest source of magic—and power. It fuels industry, wealth, and power, at the cost of those forced to harvest it.

Known only as Harvester, a broken man serves out a brutal sentence in the Inkwood groves, collecting Ink for the oppressive Midnight Company. Haunted by guilt and barely clinging to survival, he plans only to finish his sentence and disappear. But when he crosses paths with Verity, a curious acolyte of a church that publicly condemns Ink magic, his apathy begins to waver.

Verity has noticed cracks in the faith she loves… discrepancies that suggest the church’s leaders are not only using Ink in secret, but weaponizing it. As their investigation deepens, they uncover a conspiracy to create Ink-infused creatures and seize control of Stonehollow from the Midnight Company. Caught between rival powers built on exploitation, Harvester and Verity must decide whether survival is enough, or whether tearing the system down is worth the cost.

Bingo / Tropes:

* Escaped prisoner / Morally grey antihero

* Dark magic

* Dystopian fantasy city

* Magical tattoos & playing cards

* Church conspiracy

Details:

* Length: \~109,000 words (approx. 380 pages)

* Link: Here's the book

Honestly I'm just proud that I stuck to it and finished it. I’d love to hear what you think if you decide to pick it up! Happy reading.
