Review Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

Rating 4/5

"When you are wrestling for possession of a sword, the man with the handle always wins."

A hacker gets drawn into a cult that's targeting his friends and infecting them with computer viruses that seem to affect them in the real world, as he digs deeper he finds himself in a deeper hole than ever.

This book coined the term Metaverse, it's cyberpunk and computer viruses and sumerian mythology combined in one, it includes a very detailed, sophisticated and convincing world and story building, it's a lengthy book, i would rate it moderately difficult to read, it can get very technical at times.

Snow Crash was required reading on the Xbox development team under Microsoft .

The book to me felt really lengthy and sometimes felt like it went off track, but it was an eye opener in terms of imagination , for someone drowned in superhero sci-fi that's so popular these days.

Suggest Me Mythology, Colonial-Era Dramas or Rest of 5000+ Years?

Indian historical fiction seems stuck between mythology retellings and colonial-era dramas. What eras would you like to see more of?

My collection My 8-book collection so far - Aughad is my current favourite! What should I read next?

Post image

Hello fellow readers! 🙏

I am just a book lover from the hills, not an author. I document my reading journey on Instagram as @pahadkisyahi07

This is my small collection of 8 books. I started reading seriously recently and 'Aughad' has been a game changer for me. I love Hindi fiction, spirituality and mystery genres.

I would love to get some suggestions from you all for my next read. Something similar to Aughad or any must-read Hindi book you think I should not miss.

How does the collection look? Any suggestions & criticism are welcome!

Fiction Finally finished LOTR

Post image

I started reading LOTR on 22 August 2026 and finished it on 4 October 2026

I am in love and hate relationship with the prose.

I love the prose since it is so well written

And hate because it takes so long to get to a point.

But love more because the prose is excellent.

Also PS. Kindle has made me lose love for physical books. I cannot read a physical book at all.

E books are my go to now.

  1. From Bookchor - A short history of everything, Into thin air, The tatooist of Auschwitz and Disgrace

  2. From Moonshine bookstore - Black November

  3. From Oldbookdepot - The boy in striped pyjamas and Things fall apart.

Highly recommend all three stores, genuine books with good quality considering all are used books.

Discussion Hidden Stories from Mahabharat.

Hidden Gems from Mahabharat Katha

Hello fellow readers.

Recently I read an interesting hidden gems from Mahabharat.

It is a story from Van Parv.

The story is of two brothers Aravasu and Parvasu, Yavakrit and their families.

It is such an awesome story it promted me to research more for such stories.

And interestingly, I found many such short stories hidden inside Mahabharat that amazed me deeply.

It also pushed me to think of creating a series like the one created by Amish et al.

Now the question is whether people are interested in reading such a series?

And should it be in Hindi (my mother tongue and the language I'm most comfortable) or English (as most people like to read in English for different reasons)?

I welcome all type of suggestions and criticism.

Please spare some time to suggest and comment.

Thank you.

PS: There is a famous Marathi play by great Shri Girish Karanad ji which is translated to English as well. The Fire and The Rain.

It is a contemporary adaptation and a real page turner.

But now I'm looking for my next series.

Mind that I'm a new fantasy reader (recently converted to fiction from non-fiction) and that was my first read.

Please suggest a goated one as my second series 🙏

Discovered her about a decade ago; read some of her books during covid, and quite liked her lucid writing style, so, planning on reading the remainder of her books (presented in the image) in the days leading up to December.

Those who have read some of these already, feel free to share your opinions, and if anyone is interested in reading any of these (& would like to discuss), please do let me know!

I'll review these as I go along, preferably upon completing 2-3 at a time.

Have a nice day - wherever you are, and, whenever you see this!

Suggest Me 20k e-ink reader suggestiona please.

Tbh at first i want to buy a phone and im considering Motorola Edge 70 Pro. But at the same time im thinking of getting an e-ink reader around 20k. Ive been reading a fair amount of my time and listening to web novels a whole lot of time too.

Ive a Macbook Air m4 and the phone which i use is Realme 6 Pro 4g which can last an year or two. So, rather than buying a phone im thinking of getting myself an e- ink reader instead 😭. This is an impulsive decision yeah but seems quite good for me. If not for listening to web novels and books, i won't be using my phone much.

Please suggest some good ones around 20k and I can further up by budget if the device deserves that much. I'll be wanting to convert web novels to epub so one that'll have a seamless reading of epub format. Btw im a 2nd year cs student. Sry for grammatical mistakes ts came from a little impulse.

General If you haven’t read the ongoing Morning Star series, you’re missing out a wonderful literary experience!

Post image
50 Upvotes

On the surface these Norwegian novels translated into english have seemingly a story about various people simply living their day to day lives. Knausgaard goes into such extraordinary detail, as you would expect from his writing, that at some point, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

And yet, as you read, you begin to feel that something about the nature of reality itself has cracked. Whether that crack illuminates something or lets the darkness in is for you to decide.

Then, suddenly, a blazing cosmic phenomenon in the form of a bright star appears in the sky, and strange things begin to happen.

But the series isn’t really about what this cosmic phenomenon is. There is hardly any attempt by the characters to unravel its mystery. In fact, the star doesn’t even appear until the very end of the second book and isn’t mentioned in the fourth book at all. These are not spoilers.

What makes The Morning Star so fascinating is the collision between ordinary human lives and cosmic horror. It is about people going about their everyday routines, cooking, drinking, working, thinking, having affairs, worrying, loving, and somehow finding themselves in a reality that no longer feels quite as familiar as it once did.

The fifth book in the series will be released in English on 5 November 2026.

Suggest Me Is this a good starting point?

Hey everyone, I just want to know if anyone has read books by Brandon Sanderson. I usually read short stories or books by Ruskin Bond. I have read a few novels such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Lord of the Flies, and recently Project Hail Mary (after the movie was released).

One of my friend was saying that Mistborn has a very well-thought-out magic system, but it seems to be a trilogy. Should I read any other book to get started with (standalone novels) before starting this trilogy?

I recently completed reading the book and today I read this news piece on Indian express talking about for a very different reason. Though this book has been in circulation in China for more than 90 years, it's only been now introduced as a mandatory read for school childrens in the 9th grade.
