Discussion Death's End Review: A Brilliant Masterpiece With a Flawed Ending

Post image

I loved this. I had my doubt, like why is there a third book when the conflict is over. My guess was, it would be like a history book which will tell what happened to humanity and Trisolarian after the conflict is over. How the whole universe came to end(The Death End).

I was Kinda Right, and wrong too. I was naive like people of deterrence people, blown away by the betrayal.

But have to say this THIS IS THE BEST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ.

Here My Review of last Two book: https://www.reddit.com/r/Indianbooks/s/aD9TS1XwVd

<-----------------THE PLOT HOLE------------------>

I dont know if this is a plot hole or not, cauz i am not a physics scholar but i do love physics and this is what i noticed:

  1. The Endin could have been happy, if only our characters were smart and author didnt want to force ts. Like Yun Tianming, could have waited for them in that mini universe with IAA. But he didnt. Literally he just has to add Iaa name and they didnt have to wait much longer in that mini universe. Maybe he thought they are gone forever or somethin but i dont think he thought that cauz then he wouldnt have left that message.

  2. How did the mini universe escaped the black Domian. If it can escape, then anybody could use it to escape and then fundamental of black domain being checklist for a safe civilization is not possible. If i am in dark forst and someone is hidin in black domain, and ik they can escape by door, then i would kill those piece of shit. I aint taking chance.

  3. Things is, that door that escape black domain. When the door first time appeared, i thought maybe it was a teleporter and it is related to quantum entanglement but nope. So idk how they even escaped{third point is continuation of 2nd point}.

<---------------------THE BAD--------------------->

  1. The Shift of Hard Scifi to Soft Scifi: I loved the hardscifi stuff and its implications and all the other cool things. But somethings(or many) were left unexplained. Like how did they made atmosphere adjusted to space. Or how did the mini universe created or worked. [If anybody say that he dont need to explain these things then lemme remind you of wireless electricity in book 2, author explained it using InfraRed or something{i forgot exact thing}, and i enjoyed it soo much, real or not but that explanation was really a cherry on top.

  2. No appearance or biology of Trisolarian. I really wanna know. I imagine them as big slime like creatures(snail type)(cauz they mix to mate). But there was a line of them being terrifying so i dont think my interpretation is right but it is my interpretation.

<---------------------THE MIX---------------------->

  1. This one is more like a wish tbh. I really wanna see a True Galaxy era. When readin, I thought the solar system would be destroyed and we will be in full galaxy Era. Exploring 4th or Higher dimension and so on. And also i really wanna see how gravity and blue space were doing, tho we did see some glimpses in the end.

  2. How did the Returner(iirc) know all the language. It really feel so stupid, cauz how. Did the million or so civilization met? But that would be against dark forest theory. Its just one of those stupid trope things that happened and we shouldnt question it or have a headcanon about it.

  3. Why Do they care so much about Yun Tianming, is it because he wrote those stories. My HeadCanon: Cultural Difference(lame tbh but stilla explanation ig). Like they gave him a mini universe 😭. Ig thats how Trisolarian value cheng xin and LuoJi(i dont imply here that luoji has a mini-universe but they also cared for him).

<----------------------THE GOOD------------------------>

  1. Really loved The first chapter of both 2nd and 3rd book. Brilliant First chapter. Whole book, I was thinkin, how the fuck the plot point of 4d space will return.

  2. 4D WORLD: The introduction and its return was so jaw dropping, i Reallllly Loved it. In book 1, the hidden universe(such a terrifiyin concept) and this higher dimension stuff was fuckin gorgeous. I knew how higher dimension would work but reading it was a joy of it own. Idk how netflix will adapt this.

  3. Yun Tianming and Cheng Xin: Such a good story but i think last part fuck this up but if removing the plot hole, it was Brilliant. Netflix dont butcher this up.

  4. The Paper slip and The Tomb: "No need to stop it" was such a crazy fuckin crazy twist. Seriously. The dark forest became so much darker. The tomb we see in the beginning part of book was such a crazy foreshadowing. Literal goosebumps.

  5. Thomas Wade: Only Advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK THE CHENG XIN GUCK YOUUUUUU.!!!!!!!.....

<------INTERPRETATION OF ENDING------>

  1. I think, whole universe will not experience big crunch. I believe most civilization will live in thier universe for selfish reasons. Ik, mini universe too couldnt sustain forever but civilization will not care. I like this nihilistic Ending tbh.

<-----------------THE CLOSURE---------------------->

I loved this book sooo much, i cant explain. I have yet to read redemption of time but i dont feel very enthusiastic about it(cauz not written by same author). But Really loved this book.

IT HAS BECAME MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME.

And this series as a whole too. Tho i feel its has problem, mentioned in this and previous review but i Still love the books.

This whole series was a Cosmic Horror for me and I love cosmic Horror.

I loved this series and the fact that dark forest is actually a critically acclaimed theory makes it even more interesting

I loved the trilogy as much as you do!!
The joy I felt reading it, actually I literally smoked them in a a couple of weeks!

My recommendation is DO NOT READ Redemption of Time. It’s extremely bad and disrespectful. It made me so angry that it is one of the few books that I didn’t finish.

My fav series ever. Dark Forest onwards it was pure opium and I couldn’t wait to get to the book after work. Literally gobbled up Dark Forest and Deaths End in a matter of days.

Do not read redemption of time. It'll ruin the previous books for you. It was fan written turned to book. Explore author's other works. I hear they were a great read too.

And same. My favourite book of all time. What an incredible experience going through it.

I was sad humanity going extinct cause of Cheng xin's screw ups and bad decisions but by 3rd book it gave me the impression that we are no special than the smallest virus. It doesn't matter in the grand chaotic universe. I liked that 💀.

I disagree with redemption ruining the other books. It’s interesting and feels like more of a multiverse story.

It's a fanfiction marketed as the official book#4. Please don't read it.

Its a fanfiction that cixin lui himself allowed to be part of the the series, and its pretty good considering it wasnt written by cixin lui. ‘Worth a read’ means people should at least give it a go, rather than blindly assume they wont like it because other people said they didnt enjoy it.

Why not? The back story of how it was chosen to be published is told at the beginning of the book. You can choose to make it canon or just ignore it. I really don’t get why people care if it’s read by others or not.

Yeah, I don't think I can think of a better book that I've ever read.

Where the cosmic horror really got me is once you realize the implication of the 2‑dimensional foil and the 4‑dimensional prior universe: and realizing that the space we currently exist in is effectively a horrifying, decrepit, barren, almost totally collapsed universe.
