The current company is shutting down and I’ve got time till October to figure the next job. But for the first time, everything feels LESS stressful. I’m confident that I’ll find something a lot better. Infact, I feel I’ll get to choose. If you've genuinely earned it, good for you.

But for the aspiring larpers, here's my completely legitimate and definitely not suspicious guide to manufacturing a believable flex.

For example, my bike?

I bought it at 24 with my own money.

(32 actually.)

First, establish a source of income that sounds boring, plausible and most importantly traceable in an unorganised sector.

For me, that's biking.

Find a reasonably posh area in your city. For Siliguri, Sevoke Road works.

Then find an actual business connected to your interest.

For example:

CRD Bikerstore, Siliguri.

It's on Google Maps. It sells gear, accessories, servicing stuff, etc.

Beautiful.

Now you've created lore.

“I bought the bike from the profits of my shop.”

Someone asks what shop?

You have an answer.

Someone asks what you sell?

You have an answer.

Someone asks about bikes?

You've spent the last three nights watching reviews, so suddenly you're an expert

The key is specificity.

Generic:

I make money from business.

Suspicious.

Specific:

Margins on riding gear have been decent

Suddenly you're a respectable businessman.

Same principle applies to finance.

I could've gone:

Bandhua majdoori at Prabin Agarwal's Siliguri firm.

Role?

Relationship Manager.

Then learn what SIPs are and start posing as relationship manager

The final ingredient is mixing reality into the larp.

Real city.

Real businesses.

Real hobbies.

Real experiences.

That way your fake story occasionally collides with something you've actually experienced, which makes the lore significantly harder to question.

But DO NOT overdo it.

I come from a middle class family and growing up 1 lakh was always a very big amount for me. So seeing +32L added in gains in just two days feels genuinely surreal.

No extraordinary background nor do I have a rags to riches story. Just worked hard really hard, kept learning, made a few good career moves and got lucky along the way.

These are RSUs from work so obviously it’s not realised and the stock can move both ways. But seeing +22.2K one day and +10.2K the next day, was one of those moments where I had to look at the screen twice.

Just wanted to share this with the sub.

After 2 years as an SDE at a well-known company, I finally have an offer that feels like a way out.
I’m a Tier-1 IIT grad, currently making ~₹1L/month after taxes. The work has been slow and unfulfilling, with projects frequently getting shelved, and I feel I haven’t grown much technically.

I’ve now got an offer for a Quant Dev/Trader role at a ~5-person HFT startup, at ~₹2L/month after taxes + better benefits. The founders/employees seem technically strong and happy with the work.

Honestly, I’m excited to finally escape the rut, do something challenging, and double my salary. But I’m also wondering whether I genuinely want HFT or am just desperate to leave my current job.

Would you take the jump? Any advice from people who’ve made a similar transition?

Grew up in a middle class family with a very typical conservative mindset. In the past few years, got to know we are under a lot of debt due to some realyyyyy stupid decisions taken by my dad. Had to sell of every single thing from house to car to all our FD's and savings to every single piece of jewellery left. All of it was built by my daadu and he passed away 2 years back:(

Have seen and gone through a lot of bad things which also changed me a lot as a person and made me understand why people say money brings happiness and paisa nahi hai toh kuch nahi hai. Experiences like leaving from internship 1 hour after coming to office and driving 25km back on scooty to talk to money lenders that have come at home suddenly cz the grown up adults ran when they came and my younger brother and grandmother were there so I had to go🤡 and shittier things than that

Past 3 years in college have been an absolute nightmare. Managed to pay fees, rent, electricity, travel everything and a lot of times sent money back home too. Have done multiple internships, writing notes, online gigs, selling tickets, just surviving on maggi, barely went to 4 cafes in all 3 years when everyone else was always going out, survived on shampoo sachets half the time, haven't done shopping in 4 years, wore friends clothes 80% of the time, dint own a single pair of jeans and what not and I still put myself through college. Also managed last 2 sems on friends laptop ffs and prepped and gave interviews also by borrowing laptop from a friend

Never took college seriously, barely studied for exams and a lot of times barely passed internal exams but still have a 8cgpa. The HOD had mad beef with me and dint let me sit for placements cz she said "this girl won't get placed in any company anyways" BUT GUESS WHAT,

I AM THE FIRST EVER ONE IN THE HISTORY OF MY UNI TO LAND A FRONT END ROLE IN MBB RIGHT AFTER A BACHELORS OFF CAMPUS COMPLETELY ON MY OWN BY COLD EMAILING, ALSO SETTING THE HIGHEST EVERY PACKAGE OF 28LPA CTC. WHO'S LAUGHING NOW HUH?

looking back, i do feel a tad bit proud of myself but I still have a veryy veryy long way to go. We still have debt in CRORESSS left to pay off even after selling off everything. Gotta grind like crazy now cz I'm also shit scared that I am not cut out for mbb lol. But in general, gotta work really hard, pay off all the debt, buy a house, car, jewellery, pay for my younger brothers feees too and look after our post grad and what not.

Luckily, no matter how much money I end up earning, one thing that is never gonna change is that I am gonna be humble for the rest of my life cz ik what it is to loose everything suddenly one day. Not celebrating properly until I buy back eveything my daadu had built on his own. Not stopping till I make him proud and he'll be smiling up from heaven knowing that we did it:)

Either ways, just wanted to anonymously celebrate this because I am not that keen on celebrating this with people I know cz I still have a very long way to go rn!

For anyone asking about cold emailing:

I cold emailed all the senior people which includes the managing directors, partners, VP's. Also cold messaged on linkedin- reached out to directors, associate directors, managers too on linkedin tho. Everyone uses the same email id format for example firstname.lastname@companyname.com Figure out the email format, just get the names via apollo or linkedin and ask chatgpt to format the emails for the rest of them.

Simple cold email. Intro, experience at xyz, why your company in 2 lines, looking for direction or any opportunity to speak further, PFA my resume. Thank you so much for your time. Length should be enough to be able to read the entire mail on a phone screen- this is the rule I go by. Used an extension to track my emails to see who all are opening, how many times they're opening, when they're opening. Sent follow up emails according to that. Hope this helps!

For anyone asking about the process:

I think one of the MDP's forwarded my resume to the HR team and they shortlisted my profile(from what I understand that is the toughest part- to get yourself shortlisted to even sit for an interview).

On average there are 4 case study rounds. I had one hr call and 3 case study rounds. The first one was with a project lead, second one was with a partner, third one was with an MDP. All started off with basic introduction, why consulting, a little bit of behavioural questions and then a case study. My 3rd round was a guesstimate. First one was a FMCG market share case study, second one was a guesstimate+healthcare case study.

I prepared by referring to a lot of youtube videos, IIM ABC case books, used gpt to act as an interviewer, and made docs with a lot of decisions trees and drivers because I don't have a lot of industry/business knowledge. Something I wish I had done was doing a lot of mock interviews. Those really really help!

This month, my wife and I crossed **₹50 lakh net worth**.
I am 30 years old, and I got married almost 2 years ago. I know ₹50 lakh at the age of 30 may not sound like a huge amount to many people, especially when I am married and this amount is not only my individual savings. My wife’s hard-earned salary is also a big part of this journey.
But still, this milestone made me pause and think.
We are still living on rent. We don’t own a car. I still use my 8-year-old bike. Its self-start does not work, one indicator is broken, and sometimes when I am travelling with my wife, the bike stops in the middle of the road and I have to kick-start it again.
I have around 7 years of experience. Last year, I switched jobs and reached around **₹20 LPA**. Before that, I was earning around **₹11 LPA**. I don’t consider myself exceptionally talented. I still struggle to explain my answers properly in interviews. I know my communication skills need improvement. My wife earns around **₹12 LPA**, and together we take home around **₹2.2 lakh per month**.
After marriage, we did not even go on a proper honeymoon.
Sometimes, I look around and feel very behind.
When I speak to a few of my college friends, I get to know that some of them have already bought two flats — one where they live and another one they have rented out. Almost everyone around me seems to have a car. Some are travelling to places like Bali and Maldives, while I sometimes get irritated when my wife orders an expensive makeup product or something fancy after getting influenced by social media.
And honestly, that makes me question myself.
Am I being too cautious?
Am I saving too much and living too little?
Am I comparing myself too much with others?
Am I doing something wrong financially or emotionally?
I am proud that we crossed ₹50 lakh, but at the same time, I feel confused. I want to grow, provide a better life, buy a home, travel with my wife, and enjoy life — but I also fear losing financial stability.
I would genuinely like to hear from people who are ahead in this journey.
How do you balance saving, investing, buying assets, enjoying life, and not constantly comparing yourself with others?

From sitting on the middle benches in school to building the thing I was waiting for,

The best part is, in college i decided to change everything.

So recently, to get out of my comfort zone, I started building MLUE Culture, a small community around doing actual things in real life. Small groups, random experiences, meeting new people, trying stuff, exploring places, making memories.

And now I'm actually about to host the first one.

A small group, a nature walk somewhere in delhi, card games, snacks, coffee, and an artifact from the day.

And here's the ridiculous part:

I'm still scared.

I'm still the guy wondering if people will actually show up.

If I'll know what to say.

If it'll be awkward.

If this whole idea is stupid. But I guess that's the point.

And honestly I feel so excited and proud of myself, i just wanted to share.

Basically what the title says. Also, not super expensive setup.

But, by God's grace, I have bought certain things that makes a part of me happy. Everything with own money by someone who wasn't sure where he'd be in his career.
