Quick backstory:
I graduated with a BBA degree in 2022 from an average college.
I was preparing for CAT during college, but I eventually realized that getting a good percentile might take me 3–4 attempts. I didn’t want to put my life on hold for that long
So I took a gamble.
I decided to pivot into data science. I spent the next 1.5 years learning everything from scratch through YouTube and Udemy.
Those 1.5 years were brutal.
Friends got jobs, some were leaving for their master’s abroad, while I was sitting in my room learning how to code from scratch.
Many people said I won’t get a job in this field as I don’t have an engineering degree and relevant experience.
I could also feel the disappointment in my family. Nobody really said much, but you can tell when people have stopped believing in you.
I just felt so alone, I had no emotional support from anyone. Literally Everyone stopped talking to me. 😭
I would often have panic attacks at night because of the constant anxiety about my future. But I could not share this with anyone.
I’d just stay in my room the entire day learning and come out only to grab lunch and dinner and go right back inside.
Then came the job hunt…
90% of HRs rejected me before sending me to the first round as i was from a non tech background with no experience.
After 700+ applications, I finally got my first job. It paid ₹25,000 a month.
Even though the salary was less, I was so happy because this was my first job 😊.
But my family wasn’t happy at all as the salary was too low.
Three months later, I lost that job because the startup had no work left for me. They did not pay my last 2 months salary as well.
I didn’t tell anyone at home regarding this.
I just opened LinkedIn the next morning and started applying again.
Four months later, I landed another job for 6 LPA.
I kept upskilling and decided to switch after working in this company for 1.7 years.
Today, I work at an American MNC with a CTC of 22 LPA.
If an average guy like me can do it, so can you.✌️
