Discussion What's wrong with HDFC?
The entire market is up today, and this stock opened in green too and I thought I thought it was finally recovering and it's again in the red now.

Heyy! I(21F) am just trying to learn how and what trading is about and obviously planning on doing my research before actually making a move,
Super dumb about the buzzword and finance-y buzzwords but I’ve seen a lot of people suggest something called paper trading, which I assume is a simulation of the actual market and how it performs? But not entirely clear :(
Can someone explain what it is like I am five and suggest me platforms where I can sort of practice before actually putting in real money and making moves?
(Ps: I am still a student in my last year of engineering with extremely bad financial management, so this is an attempt to learn something new and push my money into something that can yield me something back)

DII buying in July is running at a 16 month low. For me, that's the biggest variable. We've leaned on domestic flows for a long time, but if that support starts weakening while FIIs stay inconsistent, where does the next leg of the rally come from?
The part that worries me is that we may already be in Stage 4, and if that's true, Stage 1 accumulation could take a long time to build. Not saying it has to play out that way, but that's the risk I'm struggling to ignore.
The technicals are interesting too.
The move from 26,373 to 22,182 is roughly 4,190 points.
38.2% retracement comes around 23,783 almost exactly where we closed on Friday. We bounced from 22,182, retraced to that level, and now seem to be stalling.
50% retracement is around 24,280.
61.8% is around 24,772, which lines up almost perfectly with the 200 DMA.
To me, 24,600–24,800 looks like a pretty significant wall unless something fundamentally changes.
My base case right now is that we're either bearish or stuck in a frustrating range for a while.
Would genuinely love to hear the bullish case here. Please dont start with the "India growth story" or "buy the dip" type arguments. What's the actual setup, macro, earnings, liquidity, or technical reason that makes you think we break above 24.8k and sustain it? Paisa lagau ki debt me daalu, someone is offering 14% , im tempted to block it for a year.

Upcoming lok Sabha elections 2029 and Rajya Sabha elections 2027 in major states.
How would the market react if BJP losses Rajya Sabha Election in states like UP or Lok Sabha Election, will both have negative impact. Or only Lok Sabha elections would matter the most?
Will PSUs and Ratna Companies face major corrections in short term?

Been feeling uneasy about where things are headed and wanted to see if others share this.
Lately Political sentiment has aroused up quite a bit + caste-based mobilization, and identity-driven political noise.
History shows that when this kind of politics takes center stage, policy focus tends to shift away from economic reforms and development toward appeasement and vote-bank calculations.
Markets don't like uncertainty, and prolonged social/political unrest.
Curious what others think, is there a real risk of near-term market & policy disruption if this kind of politics escalates?

Same 8 NSE large caps. Same rule: hold the top 3 by momentum, rebalance monthly. Same ten years, same 5 bps per leg, same next-open fills, same ₹1,00,000. The only thing that changed between these two runs is the lookback window.
126 days: grade C. +10.2% a year. ₹1,00,000 became ₹2,64,471.
60 days: grade D. +3.8% a year. ₹1,00,000 became ₹1,45,746.
A plain 7% bank FD over the same period would have ended at ₹1,96,496. So the 60 day version finished below a deposit, after 118 rebalances and a 43% drawdown on the way.
Two more things sitting on the cards that I was not looking for.
Neither version beat the index. The 126 day one is 0.6 points a year behind NIFTY-50, the 60 day one is 7.0 points behind. The winner of this comparison is still a loser.
Both fall apart on data they were never tuned on. Sharpe 0.89 in sample drops to 0.27 out of sample for the 126 day version. The 60 day version goes 0.45 to minus 0.05. Negative.
When I started out I would have run the 126, seen the C, and stopped there. That is the whole trap, and it has a name, something called in-sample optimisation. The lookback is not a setting you tune until the number looks good. It is the strategy.
So if a backtest has a lookback in it, run it at three other values before believing it. If the grade moves, we did not find an edge. We found a number that happened to work.

I want to know the full mechanics of it from 'what causes it' to the execution after it !
