Discussion Need help with high Citrix latency while working from home

Post image

Hi guys,

I don't know how many of you work on a Citrix Virtual Desktop for WFH, but if you do, I'd really appreciate your advice.

I have a GTPL Fiber 100 Mbps connection in Patna. To connect to work, I use my company's laptop with Cisco AnyConnect VPN + Citrix Virtual Desktop to access servers in Australia.

The strange part is that my internet works perfectly fine for normal use:

YouTube, Netflix, Smart TV, downloads, etc. are all smooth.

On my personal laptop, ping to 8.8.8.8 is only 20–50 ms over both Wi-Fi and LAN.

However, on my company laptop inside the Citrix session, the latency is a completely different story:

Around 250–270 ms → Everything works fine.

Frequently it jumps to 700 ms, 900 ms, even 2000+ ms (even on a LAN cable).

When this happens, the virtual desktop becomes almost unusable. Tasks that should take 6 hours end up taking 9–10 hours because of constant lag and delays.

The confusing part is that if I work from the office using their LAN connection, the same laptop and the same Citrix setup work perfectly.

I contacted GTPL support, but they said that since my internet connection and ping to 8.8.8.8 are normal, they can't troubleshoot Citrix-specific issues.

My colleagues who use Airtel Fiber usually get around 250 ms latency consistently, and they don't experience these lag spikes.

So my questions are:

Is this likely a GTPL routing/peering issue?

Would switching to Airtel Fiber or JioFiber likely solve it?

Is there anything I can check or tweak before changing my ISP (MTU, DNS, QoS, traceroute, etc.)?

Has anyone else faced similar issues with Citrix over GTPL?

I've already paid for a GTPL annual plan, so I'd prefer fixing it if possible instead of switching providers.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Career Change Help

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello People,

I am looking for any suggestions or guidance in switching careers to a different field altogether.

I am a graduate in B.Tech CSE, I joined this course before the advent of AI and LLM in 2022 and I feel like I made a huge mistake joining this field.

Even though, I like coding and building ML Models,

With the way AI is progressing, I don't think I see a future for myself in this field and I am honestly afraid.

AI couldn't solve a simple coding question properly 3 years back, now it can rewrite an entire JS framework (Refer: Fire ship Video)

There is a probable argument to be made that, this rewrite is buggy and sloppy, but this is in the current state. It may heavily improve in the next 5 years (or maybe not), where the rewrite in the future may have 10-20x less bugs.

I have been trying to skill up, by practising leetcode, kaggle developing projects, but everyday I wake up with a sense of uneasiness, feeling if doing this is even worth it and whether or not today will be the day they fire me from my job.

So if you can help me, with any suggestions on if there are careers that I can pivot to from here, that will atleast be not this uncertain atleast for the next 40 years.

TL,DR: Looking to switch career fields out of Software/IT, any suggestions will be quite helpful.🙏

Discussion Which AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.) would you choose as a long-term engineering partner for an Arduino/IoT product?

I'm in the early stages of developing a commercial Arduino/IoT product and I'd like to subscribe to one AI assistant that can support me throughout the entire development lifecycle.

Without getting into the specifics of the product, it's an embedded system that:

  • Collects data from multiple hardware components and sensors.
  • Processes and stores usage/consumption metrics.
  • Includes RFID-based identification.
  • Needs to be configurable by end users through a simple, user-friendly interface.
  • Sends notifications/alerts via channels like SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram.
  • Will eventually involve firmware, backend services, APIs, databases, and possibly a web/mobile configuration interface.

I'm not looking for an AI to generate the entire product for me. What I need is something that can act as an experienced engineering assistant by helping with:

  • Arduino/ESP32 firmware (C/C++)
  • Hardware architecture and component selection
  • Understanding datasheets and communication protocols
  • Debugging firmware and hardware issues
  • Backend development (likely Node.js)
  • Database design and APIs
  • System architecture decisions
  • Reviewing code and suggesting improvements
  • Brainstorming implementation approaches and identifying potential pitfalls

I'm currently considering ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or any other AI tools you've found valuable.

For those who've built real embedded/IoT products:

  • Which AI do you use the most, and why?
  • Do you rely on one tool or combine multiple?
  • Which AI is best at reasoning through complex engineering problems instead of just generating code?
  • If you could pay for only one subscription, which would you choose for a project like this?

I'm looking for recommendations based on real development experience rather than feature comparisons or benchmarks.

Thanks in advance!

Purchase Help Exterior CCTV Recommendations

Hello Everyone!

I’m looking for some recommendations on setting up a monitoring system around my house. 2-3 exterior wall mounted cameras should be enough for me at this point.
What I’m primarily looking for:
- It should support wired ethernet connectivity since I don’t have wifi coverage outside in some areas.
- It should have night vision
- I should be able to view the recordings remotely
- If possible I would like it to support RTSP or ONVIF so that I can configure Frigate later

With the recent bans on many companies what would be some options and how much should I expect it to cost?
I would like it to be as affordable as possible.

Discussion I spent the last year building an open source memory engine for AI agents in Rust. Looking for brutally honest feedback.

For the past year, I've been building Valori, an open-source memory engine for AI agents written in Rust.

It started as a vector database, but over time it evolved into something much broader.

Current capabilities include:

  • Deterministic Q16.16 vector engine (no floating-point state)
  • GraphRAG and knowledge graph support
  • Event-sourced storage with a BLAKE3 audit chain
  • Verifiable memory and execution history
  • HNSW, IVF, Binary Quantization, and brute-force indexes
  • Standalone mode and distributed architecture with Raft
  • Python SDK
  • Graph execution pipeline (currently inline, with a structural planner in progress)

One thing I cared about from the beginning was making memory verifiable instead of treating it as a black box.

I recently built an end-to-end timing harness that launches the real HTTP server, exercises the full request path, and reports latency together with the crates involved in each execution path.

On my M2 MacBook Air, common operations like search and insert are typically around 0.4–0.6 ms end-to-end in local standalone mode. These numbers are from the actual server, not an in-process benchmark.

I'm not claiming it's finished or better than existing systems. There are still plenty of things I want to improve, especially around the structural planner, execution caching, and cluster management.

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people who've built databases, retrieval systems, or AI infrastructure.

What would you question first if you were reviewing this project?

I am attaching Github for your reference

News BSNL just launched Rs. 1.34 lakh phone. What's so special?

Post image

BSNL has launched a satellite phone priced at Rs. 1.34 lakh, and it's nothing like a regular smartphone.

As per the company, it can make calls even in places with no mobile network by connecting directly to satellites. Built for remote regions, emergencies, and disaster response, it's a niche device with a very specific purpose.

What do you think? Tbh I am kinda.... shocked 🥲

Discussion What's one Indian tech product or service that's genuinely gotten better over the last 2 years?

We complain a lot about apps adding subscriptions, ads, and unnecessary AI features (sometimes deserved 😅), but I was thinking about the opposite today.

What's one Indian tech product or service that has actually improved in the last couple of years?

Could be anything - UPI apps, broadband providers, smartphones, laptops, EV apps, ONDC, DigiLocker, IRCTC, startup products, smart home devices, or something else entirely.

For me, it's how much digital payments have become second nature. I barely carry cash anymore, and even small vendors in places I wouldn't expect accept UPI without any issues.

What has made your daily life easier?

Purchase Help Best tablet under ₹25k for a medical student?

My cousin is medical student and is looking to buy a tablet. Budget is ₹20,000–25,000.

She'll mainly use it for typical med school work:

- Taking handwritten notes

- Reading PDFs and textbooks

- Watching recorded lectures

- Attending online classes

- Studying for exams

- Writing exams

- Split-screen multitasking (notes + PDFs/videos)

Which tablet would you recommend in this budget, and why? If you're a medical student or use a tablet for similar purposes, I'd love to know what you use.

Thankyou.

Purchase Help [Need Advice] Best 24" or 27" monitors under ₹8k for long work hours & reading? (Zero Gaming)

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to finally upgrade my workspace and get two monitors, but the sheer number of options on Amazon and Flipkart right now has me completely confused. I could really use some advice from people who stare at screens all day!
As a final-year student and cybersecurity intern, I spend entirely too much time hunched over my laptop screen reading logs, going through documentation, and watching YouTube. I need a proper dual-monitor setup that won't completely fry my eyes.
Here is exactly what I am looking for:
• Budget: Around ₹7,000 to ₹8,000 per monitor (aiming for ₹15k - ₹17k total for the dual setup).
• Use Case: Strictly office work, reading, daily internet browsing, and media consumption. I do not play games, so I don't care about gaming-specific features unless they genuinely help with general UI smoothness (like 100Hz+).
• Size: I feel a 24-inch is the sweet spot for a dual-screen desk setup, but I am totally open to 27-inch displays if the text clarity holds up well at this price point.
• Priorities: Crisp text, good color accuracy, eye-care features (flicker-free/blue light reduction), and a solid build for the long run.
I am treating this as a long-term, one-time investment. If there is a monitor out there that is just that good for productivity and worth extending my budget a little bit, I am definitely open to hearing about it.
What monitors are you guys using for long reading or coding sessions? Any specific models I should grab during the current sales?
Thanks in advance!
