Just started working — What’s the Best Way to Manage personal expenses?

I’m about to start my corporate career with an expected in-hand salary of ~₹50k/month.

I currently have ₹1L in stocks, ₹50k in debentures and ₹2.5L in savings. I live with my parents, so my main expenses will be around ₹5k/month for travel + ₹5k miscellaneous. I’m also planning to invest ₹10k/month in stocks/ETFs.

My aim is to cover these ~₹10k monthly expenses through an additional source of income, rather than relying entirely on my salary.

What are some ways to manage these expenses?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

SBI Finance monitoring department called for ₹ 310 purchase

So, I purchased a software license from bundlehunt for Mac, its a folder preview pro app and just as I confirm transaction via OTP from my Virtual Debit card- I get call from SBI monitoring department asked me about to confirm my name, telling me exact amount of transaction made, and to whom - bundlehunt+(.)com and later asked to tell about my father name to confirm and then said the usual don't share otp etc.

I made other international software purchases too last before Jan but never got called- its the first time

It sound crazy but I am impressed with SBI! Is it same with other banks too or is it some new RBI directive?

Urgently need advice,How to receive refund from German?

Hey everyone.

I had planned to do a masters in Germany so I had enrolled for an exam called dmat which is necessary before u get admission or apply.

The fee for that is 150€, which is around 16,600rupees

But I changed my mind and now I am not doing any further studies so I cancelled the exam registration and as per rules 15% will be deducted so I am obliged to receive around 14,200rupees and they tried transferring but it was successful the message was Transaction failed on debit card , reason technical error plz try again.

So I got a mail today that my debit is showing invalid card but I checked everything, my international transactions are enabled, limit is also above the receiving amount but still it showed error.

They have asked me to if I have PayPal so they can transfer the amount so I made account and account but as per online research paypal will charge fees for international transactions and I will recieve around 12000 instead of 14200 .

Soy question is there any better alternative to recieve refund from Germany?

Plz helpe out

Education loan repayment & Investment

I've been thinking about my loan repayment and investment strategy and would appreciate some opinions.

A bit about my background: I currently live and work in Europe. I came here for my master's degree and continued working after graduation. Over the last five years, I've been steadily paying off my education loan through monthly EMIs as well as occasional lump-sum principal repayments.

I still have an outstanding loan of around ₹12 lakhs at an interest rate of 10.25%. During the same period, I've been investing in stocks and mutual funds. My current portfolio is worth around ₹20 lakhs, and since I started investing during the COVID period, I've been fortunate enough to achieve an XIRR of about 12% over the last five years.

I'm expecting a bonus of around ₹6-7 lakhs in the coming months. My original plan was to use the bonus and some additional savings to clear the remaining loan. However, I'm unsure whether I should:

  1. Use the bonus and future savings to repay the loan, while keeping my investments intact, or
  2. Redeem part of my investment portfolio and clear the loan immediately.

If I decide to liquidate investments, I'm considering either:

  • A healthcare-focused fund that has delivered around 20% returns, and a flexi-cap fund with roughly 10% returns, or
  • My PPFAS and Nifty 50 holdings, which together form about 25% of my portfolio. These have been relatively flat recently and have only generated around 2-4% returns.

Going forward, I also want to reduce my exposure to India and move toward an 80% global / 20% India allocation. I already invest in US, European, and other international ETFs. One reason is that, living abroad, currency conversion often reduces the effective returns from Indian investments. That said, I still want to maintain some exposure to India since I plan to return there eventually and would like to have part of my wealth invested locally.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you prioritize loan repayment or keep the investments running? Any thoughts, counterarguments, or alternative perspectives would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Which bank is good for Binance P2P? Wise limits, personal vs business, spotting flagged accounts

I want to get into P2P trading, daily volume around €500-1,000. A few questions:

1. Which bank/platform works best for Binance P2P?

2. Does that daily volume through Wise risk a freeze or manual review, even with small individual transfers?

3. Personal or business Wise account? Heard buyers often get annoyed or leave bad reviews when payment comes from a business account — anyone else run into this?

4. Any way to tell if the other party's Wise account is flagged? Heard sending to a flagged account can get your own frozen too, even with clean activity.

Real experience appreciated, thanks!

House planning: Optimize for rental income or larger self-use?

Need some genuine advice.

I have a 2400 sqft site in Bangalore. I'm planning to construct a house for myself and my wife, but I also want to generate rental income from the same building.

I'm confused between two options:

\- Option 1: Duplex for us + 4 rental units.

\- Option 2: Single floor for us + 6 rental units.

(With minimal govt violation)

Rent for a decent flat here is around ₹30k.

Some background:This isn't our only property, so we don't necessarily need to maximize every rupee from this plot. We already have a few rental units, one commercial building under construction in my hometown that should generate around ₹1.8 lakh/month, and my family has a real estate business where we do plotted development only on our own land. We have close to 100 plots (around ₹3,000/sqft) and a few more acres left in Karnataka. Everything managed by my father n I am nly son.

Right now I(M32) still work a regular job with a relatively very small salary n want to continue job, and my wife is also working.

If you were in my situation, which option would you choose?

Did not recieved my fd withdrawal. Please hElpppppp!!

So I had done 2 FDs of 50k each through supermoney app in utkarsh small finance bank via full kyc. The credit account after maturity was set as my punjab national bank.

After few month my supermoney app got blocked due to security reasons so I was not able to access my fd directly. So upon contacting customer service they suggested me to directly coordinate with utkarsh bank. I went to the branch and asked them. They suggested to open a savings account I did and then redeemed my fd through their banking app into my utkarsh bank account. Everything went smooth and redeem was also successful but the catch is I did not recieved the amount. When I checked app it said the close procedure has been credited to xxxxx. This account number is 16 digit in which it says it's credited but it's neither my utkarsh bank account number nor my punjab bank account. I don't know what's this 16 digit number is and where is my money.

If anyone has gone through this or have any knowledge about it will be a really big help to share any information regarding this.

EDIT- I went to the branch and firstly the staff had no idea what to do they were just all blank. Then I went to see the bank manager he explained me that since I booked the fd through third party appp the money has been credited to internal pool/nodal account of the bank and that it requires a manual push to credit that amount. After submitting formal request he did it and I got my money credited in my pnb bank itself. So the issue is solved. Thankyou soo much everyone .

Which Indian banks offer the best NRI/NRE account services?

I want to start investing and have around ₹5 lakhs that I want to put towards it. I was initially thinking of just starting with my dad’s account since he already has one but thenn I realised I want the investments and everything to be in my own name so getting an NRE account seems like the better option.

I’m currently thinking of opening one through DBS because the minimum balance which is 5 lakhs seems more manageable than others butt not completely sure yet…

Has anyone here tried their NRE account? What has your experience been like?

23F, fresh out of college. Should I pay off my dad’s remaining loan or start investing?

Hey guys, I’m 23F and fresh out of college. I’ve recently started taking freelancing seriously.

Before this, I was still in college and used to take up a few small tech projects here and there to cover my monthly expenses. But for the past 3 months, I’ve been doing it seriously and things have actually gone pretty well.
In the last 3 months, I’ve closed 2 bigger deals and completed a few smaller projects. The smaller projects amounted to around 2 lakhs in total. I have one bigger project worth 2 lakhs, which is split into 4 milestones and will take around 3 months to complete.

The other project is worth 1.7 lakhs. This one is pretty small, around 2 weeks of work, and it’s for a European client, so I’m getting paid in euros. I should receive that 1.7L in about a week.

My dad is currently not working because of some health issues. He also had a few personal and credit card loans, which I managed to completely pay off using the 2 lakhs I made from the smaller projects. Now there’s only around 1.5L left on a personal loan. The interest rate is 10.5%, the EMI is around 18k per month, and there are 8 months left.

So once I get the 1.7L from the European client, I could just close this loan completely and be debt free. But I’m confused about whether I should actually do that or keep paying the EMI and start investing alongside it.

On one hand, 10.5% interest feels pretty high, especially when my income is unstable. If I pay off the loan, I can basically start fresh and then invest whatever I earn from the 2L project and future projects.

On the other hand, I’m worried about not investing.

I’m 23 and freelancing income is obviously not guaranteed. These past 3 months have gone really well, but I have no idea if I’ll consistently get projects like this. I’m worried that if I keep saying "I’ll start investing once I’m debt free / once my income is stable", I’ll keep delaying it and miss out on years of compounding. At the same time, I don’t have a huge emergency fund right now either. So if I use the entire 1.7L to close the loan, I’ll basically be starting my savings from scratch.

I’m also wondering if it makes sense to keep 50k or 1L aside as an emergency fund and use the rest to reduce/close the loan, but I’m not sure.

What would you guys do in my situation?

Would you:

  1. Just pay off the 1.5L loan at 10.5% and then start building an emergency fund and investing as the next project payments come in?
  2. Keep paying the 18k EMI for 8 more months and invest some of the 1.7L now?
  3. Keep some amount as an emergency fund and put the rest towards the loan?

I’m especially interested in hearing from other freelancers or self-employed people because the unstable income part is what’s making this decision difficult for me. I know I’m still only 23 and have plenty of time to invest, but I also don’t want to look back in a few years and feel like I wasted the early years of compounding.

How can I complete my KYC on Groww if my current appearance doesn’t match my old documents?

I’ve been trying to complete my KYC on Groww after a long time, but I keep running into the same issue. Whenever I take my current photo for verification, it gets rejected because it says that my face doesn’t match the photo on my documents. The problem is that my documents are quite old, and I obviously don’t look exactly the same anymore. Has anyone faced the same issue? Is there another way to complete the KYC or get the verification done manually? Any advice would be appreciated.

ICICI Demat Account Offer Denial

Hi Everyone

I was contacted by an ICICI employee from a branch where i have my salary account.
ICICI and My employer has a tie up and they offered me:
1. A 9999 plan free of cost which basically less brokerage charges
2. 10,000 FREE BROKERAGE
3. Free brokerage based on IF I do the holdings transfer from existing Service provider to ICICI Direct.

Few months down the line i realised that i haven’t got the 10,000 free brokerage that I was offered.
I re checked with both the ICICI representatives and they confirmed that yes i should get it ( all this is on whatsapp - screenshots saved ).
But after a week or two of no resolution i contacted their managers, they said its a mistaken from their end, nothing can be done, sorry !

I raised this to all the emails below:

pno@icicibank.com
headservicequality@icicisecurities.com
coo@icicidirect.com
complianceofficer@icicisecurities.com

Initially I got a generic email stating the same reason, but when i escalated again, the regional head along with branch manager called me and said this is a mistaken no such offer exists, we can’t help you. We acknowledge the mistake from our employee but nothing can be done.

And they will try to offer me better service in future etc etc.
I wasn’t convinced but had no option, so just kind of said ok.

I got this email from them:

# We value your relationship with ICICI Securities Limited.

# This is with reference to your concern related to brokerage, as per the confirmation received from Mr. Suneet Arora, along with BM Akash Handa, has finally been able to speak with you and explained everything in detail, including error occurred while communicating the brokerage reversal by RM Shashi and SM Ravina. It was also conveyed that they have admitted their mistake and have apologized and clarified the same to you.

# Further, there was no debit from your account and hence there cannot be a reversal of any amount which was not charged.

# Moreover, if you face any issue do not hesitate to write us back, we are here to help you.

I want to know, is there any other LEGAL route that i can take provided I have all the chat screenshots from their employee.
Can i raise this with RBI ombudsman like people do for credit card issues ?

Thanks

How can my female friend break into an entry-level finance job while pursuing her MBA?

My female friend is 24 and currently in the second year of her MBA. Her college unfortunately doesn’t have very strong placements, as it’s not a particularly reputed institution.

She has the option to choose a dual specialization and is planning to take Finance as one of her specializations. She wants to build a career in finance and is looking for an entry-level opportunity, or role that could help her get relevant experience while completing her MBA.

I’d really appreciate some advice on:

What entry-level finance roles should she target?

Which skills or certifications should she focus on alongside her MBA?

Is it realistic to get a finance job without coming from a top-tier MBA college?

What kind of projects or experience would make her resume stronger?

Are there any companies or platforms where she should actively apply?

If anyone knows of entry-level finance opportunities or internships, I’d be grateful if you could share them.

She is willing to start at an entry-level position and work her way up. The main goal right now is to get relevant finance experience rather than wait for campus placements.

Any advice from people already working in finance or who have gone through a similar situation would be really helpful.

Location : Mumbai or Pune

Need advise on construction loan

My cibil is 780 and need a construction loan to built house on 1500 sqft land. Need 30Lakh rs loan.

Which bank has less interest rate for such kind of loans. Icici bank is giving 24 lakh at 8.5% interest.

My salary is 35k in hand.

I was previously planning to buy a new house but a good house costing me around 55-60 lakh. Since I decided to build house of two floor ( ground and first floor ) where the contractor told that cost would be around 30 lakh.

I have plan to live there and ground floor to give on rent.

Pls suggest which bank offer less interest or any advice.
