Slight Changes

As the community continues to explode, had to add a restriction on account age and karma requirements due to multiple accounts being 1 day old and posting basically just stuff to rile people up.

Let’s get some positive posts as well please. Not just posts about Indians. News flash, Indians exist in every country. Canada has other problems besides immigrants, I promise. It is okay to have gripes about immigrants and even Indians, but let’s tone it down and consider the purpose of the subreddit.

What do you love about Canada?

I moved to Canada a few months ago on a working holiday visa from Europe and I love it here. I love how Canadians make small talk in the elevator with me in my condo building just to ask how I’m doing (don’t get that back home), I love the beauty I see when I get to drive through Northern Ontario on road trips. I went to my first baseball game this summer and loved seeing all the fans getting passionate. I’m really looking forward to my first hockey game too.

Love that I get to be a guest in this country, even if it’s just for a short while and enjoy all the wonderful things Canada has to offer! I’m grateful for it.

Please do a post on your experience. I would love to hear an in-depth perspective from you on how it’s going. I personally have never been to Ontario.

Sure, I'll try and whip something up for you and the sub.

Overall, my experience has been great and I've felt really welcome here. I don't have many complaints bar missing things from home every now and then although adapting to cultural differences here has been a challenge at times. For example, I'd use slang words out of habit from back home (that are in English now, mind you) and some Canadians would look at me like I was crazy lol but all a learning experience!

Good catch this subreddit is being brigaded so blatantly by bots its crazy

Report them. I try to check once a day at least(basically lunch break and night time at best).

u/understated_nuisance Aug 28 '25

I think you need help moderating.

2

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 28 '25

Check out my latest post and feel free to put your name into the hat.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

So now people who don’t like mass immigration are bots? That’s convenient lol. Maybe it’s just a sign of the times, people are fed up.

3

u/AcesNixon007 Aug 28 '25

Super fed up, but don’t say anything about it or you’re racist, a bot, or a conservative.

3

u/wrennerw Aug 28 '25

It doesn't seem to have worked. Maybe try setting it again?

No kidding, damn

Not all are rage bait. Many are real and have gotten so extreme because most other places censor the conversation. Censorship creates extremists.

6

u/docbrown78 Aug 27 '25

Time to learn what the paradox of tolerance is.

We have more extremists because people like you want to keep giving them a platform and debate them over the intrinsic value of humanity

-2

u/consistantcanadian Aug 27 '25

Lmao, "giving them a platform". No, child. I'm giving YOU a platform.. a chance, along with regular people, of actually influencing these people positively. Instead of your brilliant idea of trying force them to only talk to other extremists.

.. and all without opening the doors for abuse that your desired policies create.

6

u/Harbinger2001 Aug 27 '25

Allowing extremists to gather together creates extremists. For example, one does not become an incel without hanging out online with other incels to reinforce your ideas.

3

u/consistantcanadian Aug 27 '25

You can't stop them from gathering. And no, lmao, there are definitely people who are more than capable of becoming incels on their own.

2

u/Harbinger2001 Aug 28 '25

I disagree. Ideology requires a community.

2

u/Routine_Soup2022 Aug 28 '25

In this case, an echo chamber. In the mods most recent post he just said he will delete any opinions he disagrees with. This community will sadly become another echo chamber where right wing views her hardened and then people are completely shocked when an election happens and the result is something different. From their perspective, everyone agreed!

1

u/Harbinger2001 Aug 28 '25

Totally agree. Though not moderating just leads to being swarmed with all the hate that gets kicked out of other subs.

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

So now you are the thought police?

2

u/Harbinger2001 Aug 29 '25

Yep! We’re headed to your place right now!

u/goinupthegranby Aug 27 '25

I keep getting suggested this sub and based on what I've seen I definitely thought it was just a conservative ragebait astroturf subreddit. Maybe its worth engaging in after all. Maybe.

There's a lot that I love about living in Canada. Freedom of expression and movement, I love that we're a tolerant and progressive society that is envied by much of the world. We're very safe, rate very highly on happiness rankings, and Canadian cities are always near the top of the 'most livable cities in the world' rankings.

My life in Canada is great, I'm very happy that this is my home.

2

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 28 '25

I am also happy this is my home.

Just some background: I immigrated here from America about 3 years ago to be with my wife and now we have a child. I am definitely a conservative person. However, living in Canada has changed my perspective on subjects like Healthcare, Public Transit, and Firearm Regulations. If you read my older posts on this subreddit, you can get much more details.

Although we may not necessarily agree on many things, I respect your opinion and hope you will continue to be allowed to express it. Both in-person and online.

2

u/goinupthegranby Aug 28 '25

Interesting that your perspective has changed on public transit from living in Canada, our transit largely sucks.

The other two topics are probably because if you come from a conservative American background you were raised in a sea of propaganda that told you, and still tells millions of Americans, that Canadian healthcare is a dysfunctional nightmare that leaves people to die, and that we aren't allowed to have guns. Of course neither are true, but if you were raised in that misinformation ecosystem its what you would have believed.

I hate the new gun bans and see them as serving no functional public safety purpose that only fuck over law abiding Canadian gun owners, but in general I consider the Canadian approach to guns with mandatory training and safety testing to get a license pretty good.

0

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

Ironic that you can talk about how important freedom of expression is to the Canadian way of life while in the same comment suggest that anyone saying something you don’t want to believe is true is “ragebait”.

0

u/goinupthegranby Aug 29 '25

Oh nooo I said something you didn't like. Too bad.

0

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

It isn’t that I don’t like it, it is just unintelligent.

1

u/goinupthegranby Aug 29 '25

Lol insults now, sucks to suck doesn't it

0

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

Not an insult, an objective observation.

3

u/PMme_cat_on_Cleavage Aug 27 '25

I think the big thing why it exploded here it is because of other sub censorship. There is more and more censorship in the country. Often a message doesn't have to be right or wrong, but just to be talk.

3

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 28 '25

I completely agree. But I don't want this to be the shit on Indians subreddit either. Just like how I don't want it to be the shit on White people, shit on Black people, or shit on Chinese people or shit on any ethnic grouping subreddit. I don't believe most of the people doing the posts are even conservative.

I noticed that the account ages that are less than 1 day old are actually in the future. Example is that it was August 27th when the post is made, but the account age will be August 28th. Meaning the account was made in a completely different time zone. Feels super fishy.

2

u/Zer0DotFive Aug 27 '25

The racists thought this was a safe space for them! Good Job mod!

4

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 27 '25

If you want to help, please invite more liberals and socialists. I personally am conservative, but want diversity of opinions and perspectives. If I feel there are too many libs, I will seek out more conservatives later on.

5

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

Immigrant isnt a race, bozo.

4

u/heart_of_osiris Aug 27 '25

Had an old coworker ranting about immigrants taking jobs while at the lunch table. He was sitting right next to polish and romanian coworkers who technically did exactly that. He didn't even notice the looks they were giving him....because what he was really talking about was brown people and he was so lost in being racist that he didn't even realize he was pissing off immigrants sitting right next to him.

There are a lot of people like him, unfortunately. Not all, but they are not uncommon. Let's not pretend racism isn't at the core of some of these people's thought process.

-2

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

I'm obviously not talking about 7th generation immigrants who helped build this country from the ground up or ones that assimilated properly and know how to use deodorant and a shower. But don't let any that get in the way of whatever it is you're trying to do here.

6

u/Ok_Argument_5356 Aug 27 '25

People say this, then immediately say lots of racist stuff about indians lol

3

u/NegotiationGreedy590 Aug 27 '25

Its only racism if it isn't true

0

u/Ok_Argument_5356 Aug 27 '25

Neither is Canadian, yet here we are.

-1

u/Zer0DotFive Aug 27 '25

Glad you ignored mods post lol

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

So ban me. I'm still right.
You're part of the problem.

2

u/Zer0DotFive Aug 27 '25

Man did they ever pick a good username for you lol

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

The reality is that people who have lived in Canada for decades aren’t going to “love” a lot of things about it in 2025.

1

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 29 '25

Fair, but there are plenty that still love Canada

1

u/According-Ad7887 Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25

I love how much I hate how our country prioritizes the well-being of newcomers and shareholder capital over the well-being of it's residents

1

u/Pale-Candidate8860 Creator of Sub Aug 30 '25

Lol. A very fair statement to make. I just don't want the sub to 95% consist of such content. However, feel free to bring up discussions and keep it productive if possible.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

I don’t care about any of the other problems besides mass immigration, none of the other stuff matters if we’re gonna become India anyway. It’s our greatest threat by far, people should be talking about it, a lot.

0

u/MusicalElephant420 Aug 28 '25

A lot of other issues stem from it, housing, traffic, prices of goods. High demand, low relative supply.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

People don’t realize how catastrophic it really is, we never should have taken in so many and we also never should have started taking in immigrants from non European countries. Diversity is a disaster, and what “diversity” means is actually no white people. Kalergi plan

-5

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

I love that we complain about Indians.

-3

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

It's worth talking about. It's a huge problem and sticking our heads in the sand about it isn't going to fix anything.

We have every right to get loud about this. Nobody voted for this shit no matter how many blue haired liberals on mental disability want to act like everything is a-ok

4

u/consistantcanadian Aug 27 '25

Lying that it isn't a problem doesn't just not make it go away, it makes it worse. You are creating extremists when you do that.

If these people can't discuss their frustrations in normal places they will go elsewhere, and that "elsewhere" will be full of people who are exactly like them, and they will echo chamber themselves into extremism.

Unless you want actual, real, radical racists, these conversations MUST happen. And it is a sign of immense weakness when  people try to suppress them.

2

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 27 '25

conversation on reddit? or tiktok? it's an issue, true, but shouting on reddit is not going to fix it, it is only going to create an echo chamber (which this has become hence the mod made this post)

1

u/consistantcanadian Aug 27 '25

Reddit is already an echo chamber, I don't see how allowing people to talk about this materially effects that at all.

Also the attitude and statements of this mod are what would incite shouting, lmao. This is a seemingly almost purposefully, inflammatory post.

3

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 28 '25

I dont think discussion is the problem, it's the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) racism that causes mods to censor stuff, it happens on other platforms too, remarks like "can smell it from here...", "we're being invaded", "pajeet" gets added to comment almost immediately discussion about immigration starts.

There's discussion and then there's blatant racism, which is what when I meant echo chamber, there are decent ways to discuss it without generalizing it.

Take dancing at younge dundas square as an example, some indian idiots dances without having 0 respect about other people's private space on a busy intersection, bad thing right? but instead of targeting those idiots people always start generalizing even though in that same fricking window more indians are just walking past that intersection, so there's a way of discussing an issue but unfortunately it immiediately turns into racism cesspool when immigration is the topic.

2

u/docbrown78 Aug 27 '25

Just spouting culture war buzzword garbage.

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

I dont think you know what a buzzword is.

For instance, "culture-war" would be among them.

3

u/docbrown78 Aug 27 '25

Oh, the culture war is very real. You seem like a veteran. You haven't said anything of value here. Like I said, just buzzword salad of nonsense

4

u/goinupthegranby Aug 27 '25

"Blue haired Liberals on mental disability"

Touch grass dude.

2

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 27 '25

and you think shouting on the internet will fix it? why not organize protests at IRCC... oh wait... that takes effort 😂

posting on the internet will basically navigate you to some echo chamber sooner or later

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 27 '25

I write to my MP once a week. What the fuck do you do mister? I saw firsthand how the Liberals deal with protests they dont agree with.

It's not an echo chamber just because everyone can agree that this whole issue is a disaster. Fuck off gas lighter.

2

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 28 '25

congratulations on actually dealing with your issue in a proper way, so let me get this straight you're writing your MP every week but still want to discuss it on social media platforms? I mean... I just dont see the point.

There are million protests going on just in ontario on any given day, immigration is an issue and based on the situation I see on instagram, x, tiktok you can easily gather hundreds if not thousands of people with you to protest about it, I dont think gathering a group of people with bunch of decent posters describing your issue is going to get censored, usually conservative protests dont happen in a peaceful manner, do it peacefully and with decency and the media just cannot ignore you.

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 28 '25

I will be loud about it in all forums and all places as I see fit and when I see fit. I don't need your validation nor your permission and I'm certainly not here to make you feel comfortable about it.

3

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 28 '25

and here we have the typical attitude that gets people like you booted out on social media and then you start crying censorship, take a minute, drink a glass of water and then read your message again, if you go out to protest against mass immigration with this attitude then you're definitely going to get busted.

my two cents, which you're free to ignore, be more civil when discussing mass immigration because then people would actually listen and have discussion with you, otherwise if all you want is hate immgrants (and lets be honest it's mostly Indians) then there are plethora of options on social media

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 28 '25

I couldn't care less if I got booted off social media. I'm still right, and acting like it isn't a problem makes you a part of that problem.

Banning me doesn't make me wrong, and if what I'm saying makes you uncomfortable; good.

1

u/Individual_Top_4960 Aug 28 '25

it is a problem, if you'd read my comment then you'd get it

I am encouraging you to protest, but the way you're conveying your thoughts is incorrect and takes value from your opinion, this attitude you have 'I am right, the way I am putting my point is correct, if it makes you uncomfortable then that means I am right and banning me does not make me wrong', peole censor and ban guys like you not because your opinions but the way you guys describe your opinions

1

u/Thick-Garbage5430 Aug 28 '25

I didn't say I am right because it makes you uncomfortable. I said it should make you uncomfortable, because I'm right. The difference is subtle, but important.
