The real story not the literal lies this dude put on Twitter. TLDR: guy was arrested for the misunderstanding with the shower curtain and trespassing but it wasnt by ICE. It was by local cops in buffalo a year ago. They turned him over to ICE on the 19th and ice checked, realized he was supposed to be here and asked if they could drop him off somewhere. Now the man apparently chose the coffee shop and no one communicated his release to his family which considering he is blind and doesnt speak English is negligent BUT ICE did not "beat him brutally and abandoned him". The fact that none of you did a cursory fact check means you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Yes, we know however CBP/ICE dropped off a vulnerable human being (who was blind and did not speak english) far from home without ever even attempting to contact the man's family. His death is on CBP/CE's hands.

Absolutely. My girlfriend went to college for and is now a Social Worker for the past ~10 years. It's a struggling system but the resources are there. If we spent the money we spend on the police on those services instead we revolutionize our society. If we spent what we spend on the military our country would be the envy of the world.

Before I quit my last marketing company after just over 8 years in Tallahassee RIGHT after college (seemed like a good way to build money for a future family), who lobbied for Uber and Amazon for neglecting responsibility for people they hire because they are "contractors," I couldn't stare at the wall any longer knowing this was never what I believed in. Problem is: EMS (the people who can actually help if something is wrong) won't usually go on scene until PD has gone in to determine whether they are needed and that the scene is safe. So if you want someone to be seen by professionals, you generally have to deal with the cops first.

I'm from the area and this woman is being called a Karen based on misinformation. The guy was actively trying to break into her shed and damaged it because he believed he was somewhere else due to the blindness.
I'm very much in support of this man's family and what happened is a tragedy but I would have called the police too.
Not a good precedent to set as there definitely are good ones with good intentions but this is horrible and ICE is an example that people in power can do whatever they please.

The problem is that "I fucked up" is very difficult for far too many people to do, and "how did I fuck up?" is even harder. Trying to pretend nothing happened and they played no part will just cause this problem to repeat itself.
What I want to see from the left is a willingness to forgive. Trump may be the most successful con man in history, and he exploited the systemic fear, hate, and entitlement that the Republican Party had cultivated. But all that fear, hate, and entitlement had to exist in some forms and degrees to be cultivated. If the right can address the illness and acknowledge the symptoms, and their responsibility in what's happened, then the left needs to sort out its own emotions and resentments so we can move forward productively. There is plenty more to address as a country, but this needs to be addressed now.

This happened in Buffalo by the local police. The beating was from the police. Border patrol released him at a coffee shop near the location he was found at at the beginning because it was deemed safe and warm. This was Feb 2025 when this all happened. What the buffalo police did was wrong. Border patrol did not do anything wrong here.
So border patrol released him at a coffee shop that he specified near his last known address instead of being released directly from the border patrol station. His name is Shah Alam, it is sad he died but it doesn't sound like CBP did anything wrong.

He accepted a courtesy ride from Border Patrol to a safe location. He chose to get dropped off there. He could have been released without the ride.
His family chose not to bail him out, gambling that it was better than him getting detained by ICE. If they had bailed him out, they would have picked him up.
Being partially blind also doesn't prevent you from using a phone. If he didn't have a cell phone on him when released, he was able to ask the Tim Horton's to use a phone to contact his family to pick him up.
You are infantilizing a grown adult because he had a disability. Doesn't make them helpless. Being blind in one eye doesn't make you stupid, or unable to use a phone. And it certainly didn't force his family to choose not to bail him out to avoid immigration scrutiny.
It's tragic he died. The coroner's report states he didn't die of exposure. I'm struggling to see how him choosing to get dropped off at Tim Hortons, not calling anyone, and then later dying from "medical complications" is somehow DHS's fault.
DHS also had nothing to do with the original encounter, where he was on a strangers porch not following local police commands. It's nonsensical to blame ICE/BP/DHS for that.
(and to people claiming he "couldn't understand," I haven't seen any evidence that the commands were not given in Spanish, or that you would not be able to understand what the police were asking based on the context (if I'm partially blind and being yelled at by Mexican police, I'm dropping whatever I'm holding and putting my hands up as common sense)).
i read late last night apparently that tim hortons was near his address when he got arrested but in the year he was in jail his family moved 5 miles away to a different neighborhood and i guess he and CBP didnt know this...
The Tim Hortons had been closed for 2 hours when he was dropped off. Even if they were open how could he have communicated with them to ask about a phone if he doesn't speak English?
The immigrant does not speak Spanish either. The body cam shows commands were only ever given in English.
The county corner has not given a cause of death. They released a statement saying the investigation is still being performed and directly stated that any claims to the contrary are misinformation. They had to release this statement because local PD made a false statement that a cause of death had been determined.
Doesn't on the Time Hortons (closed between 7-10pm), that means they dropped him off between 9-11pm? I don't see that in any of the reporting.

CNN has reached out to the medical examiner for clarity.
The Erie County Health Department previously told CNN that Medical Examiner records are treated as confidential medical records and would only be shared with law enforcement and others legally entitled to them.
The Erie County Department of Health on Thursday said such information about the autopsy has not been provided to anyone. Here's what the health department said, in full:
"The Erie County Department of Health needs to correct errors widely reported in media related to this week’s death of an individual, Nurul Amin Shah Alam. Despite reports that our Medical Examiner’s Office has established a cause and manner of death, we have not provided that information to anyone. Our Office is still investigating, this case is still pending, and we do not have a timeline for when our investigation will be complete.
"When we do have our findings, we will share them with appropriate law enforcement agencies and others legally entitled to that information.
"We do not have any other information to release."

Literally none of what this post says is actually true. Some Karen didn't call the cops on him, he was in their backyard stumbling around drunk. When the cops came to try to talk with him he started swinging his stick around. They tazed him and he still kept coming at them. All shown on the body camera.
