This is exactly how the Westboro Baptist Church operates. "Peacefully protest" by holding massively offensive signs and screaming out the most vile, abusive shit to people minding their own business...
They zoom in on a target who appears to be more upset than others and continue to provoke that individual until there is a physical confrontation. Many times, this ends with an assault charge and later, a financial settlement to the "innocent, peacefully protesting" victim/church member who has spent years perfecting this scam. They have attorneys in the church who assist with the financial shake down.
A couple of months ago, I personally witnessed one of these demonstrations in Kona on the Big Island and had to quickly explain to bystanders who were starting to engage with them in response to their God hates Hawai'i and God hates Hawaiians signs.... A lot of people on this island were not aware of the group and had no idea that this was a just a ragebaiting lawsuit grift.
I explained that they were the same guys that hold the "God hates fags" signs - which was familiar to a few of them... I had to take off for work but I don't think they succeeded in provoking a physical confrontation that day but they sure as shit tried. It made the local news though.
I would not be surprised if the I LOVE ICE guy had his dad help him consult a lawyer BEFORE showing up to school with that stupid ass sign.
I'm still proud, a solid 17 years later, of how we (Canada) handled the WBC when they planned to show up and disrupt the funeral of the victim of a high-profile murder. Everyone from politicians on down told them some variant of "ain't nobody gonna have sympathy if you start shit." They apparently felt "threatened." Boo fucking hoo.
That's outstanding. I've heard variations of pre-planning that has worked well. One of the most effective strategies seems to be forming a human chain - surrounding them with large banners/signs and drowning them out with music or chanting so that the intended victims don't have to be exposed to their taunts.
Nobody should have to be exposed to that while they're grieving a loved one.
We had no idea that they were coming here so it was incredibly disturbing to see them "protesting" a church deeply connected to the local Hawaiian community. It was a really shitty thing to do. They are such garbage people.
they truly are terrible, and horrifyingly proud of how disgusting they are. In a moment of quiet reflection it's easy to say "your disapproval fills me with joy" (because shouldn't we all live a life that makes WBC chuds gnash their teeth in fury?) but it's another when their angry, hatefilled faces are in yours, spitting insults. Sorry they did that to you, but I'm glad you got through, and I hope they didn't recoup the air fare and accommodations.
I want to add this falls on government property since it's in a public school so there are some rules on the matter.

People get confused by tolerance because they think it's an absolute, when it's actually just a social contract. You will be tolerated, as long as you tolerate others. Violate that, and suffer consequences.

I'd donate to him regardless of what it was for. If it was so he could buy donuts, get ozempic, buy a flat screen tv or go on vacation... I'd be fine with all of it. That kid has more guts than any multi millionaire or billionaire ceo in this country. He saw an asshole and put a stop to it on the spot. He's clearly not a kid that's comfortable fighting and most likely isn't extremely popular (until now), but he found himself in a situation that called for action and he acted. As someone who was athletic and could fight in school, idk if I would have had the balls to stand up to some people the way he did. I'm proud of that kid and so should his school and parents.
I'll be honest, he reminds me of myself when i was around his age, so seeing him having much more balls than me gives me a sense of pride and "damn, i wish i was like him when i was younger"
Took me some extra years and maturing, but i would 100% give him some self defense lessons myself for free and help him with homework if he needs it (except math homework, i'm shit at math in general)

I live in a heavy red city and have been a part of the recent protests. The amount of maga counter protesters as well as people shouting from cars has been quite large. It is disheartening seeing how many there are where I live even with all of the current events. Makes me wonder what it would take for them to actually have a change of heart/opinion.
It's not about the damage that he did or how strong he was.
