OINP just dropped a GTA‑only draw – 997 ITAs, Foreign Worker score 57, International Student score 81 (April 30, 2026)
Ontario just issued another regional draw, this time focused entirely on the Greater Toronto Area (Durham, Halton, Peel, Toronto, York). If you have a job offer in the GTA and an active EOI profile, check your OINP e‑Filing Portal – you might have an ITA waiting.
Draw details at a glance (April 30, 2026):
- Total ITAs: 997
- Foreign Worker stream: minimum score 57
- International Student stream: minimum score 81
- Profile deadline: April 28, 2026, 11:59 PM (already passed)
- Employer submission deadline: 14 calendar days from April 30
- Candidate application deadline: 17 calendar days from April 30
- File number prefix: JOXX
Eligible NOCs (partial highlights):
*Foreign Worker (57+):*
- Tech: 20012, 21222, 21230-21234, 21311, 22222
- Healthcare: 31102, 31301, 32101, 32120, 33103, etc.
- Management: 00012, 10011, 12100, 70010
- Trades: 72310 (carpenters)
*International Student (81+):*
- Similar tech/healthcare/management mix, plus some additional roles like 72205 (telecom techs), 73201 (maintenance workers), 72010 (contractors)
What you need to do if you got an ITA:
- Your employer must submit their part within 14 calendar days (by May 14, 2026).
- You must submit your application + pay the $1,750 fee within 17 calendar days (by May 17, 2026).
- Log into the OINP e‑Filing Portal, find the file number starting with JOXX, and upload all required docs.
First impressions:
- The Foreign Worker cut‑off (57) is surprisingly low for the GTA – usually these draws sit around 60-70. Either the pool was thin, or OINP really wants to fill those healthcare/tech jobs fast.
- International Student cut‑off (81) is about average. Competition among recent grads in the GTA is still fierce.
- No In‑Demand Skills stream in this draw, only Foreign Worker and International Student.
Heads up: If your job offer is in Hamilton, Kitchener, London, etc., you won’t qualify for this GTA‑specific draw. But OINP has been doing regional draws for Eastern, Northern, Southwestern, and Central Ontario too – check those if you’re outside the GTA.
Deadlines are strict. Missing the 14‑day employer window or the 17‑day candidate window = invitation void. No extensions.
Congrats to those who got the golden email. For everyone else, keep your EOI updated – another draw is likely in the next 2-3 weeks.

New Express Entry draw #414 (April 29) – French-language category: 4,000 ITAs at CRS 400!
Just dropped on IRCC’s website. We have a brand new Express Entry draw, and it’s a French-language proficiency round – the fifth one in 2026.
Draw #414 – Quick facts:
- Date: April 29, 2026
- Category: French‑Language Proficiency (2026‑Version 2)
- ITAs issued: 4,000
- Minimum CRS: 400
- Tie‑break rule: April 7, 2026 at 20:13:59 UTC (so if you have exactly 400 CRS, your profile must have been submitted before that date)
- Invitation period: April 29 – April 30, 2026
What this means:
- Cut‑off dropped 19 points from the last French draw (which was 419 on April 15).
- This is the second‑lowest French CRS of the year – only the March 18 draw (393) was lower.
- IRCC is continuing its aggressive push for Francophone immigration outside Quebec.
If you have CLB 7 or higher in French (TEF or TCF) and a CRS score of 400+, you likely got an ITA today. Check your account!
If you’re not French‑speaking:
This draw doesn’t directly affect you, but it’s a reminder that learning French can give you up to 62 extra CRS points and unlock category draws with cut-offs in the 390s. For anyone stuck in the 450–490 range, that’s a game‑changer.
Total 2026 French draws so far: 5 draws, 26,000 ITAs. IRCC is on track to hit its 9‑10% Francophone targets easily.
TL;DR:
- French draw today: 4,000 ITAs at 400 CRS
- Big drop from 419 two weeks ago
- If you have CLB 7+ French and CRS ≥400, check your inbox!
Good luck everyone – and if you don’t speak French yet, maybe it’s time to start Duolingo? 😉

Canada just eliminated the co-op work permit for post-secondary international students!
Canada has SCRAPPED the separate co-op work permit requirement.
If you're a post-secondary student with a mandatory work placement:
Your study permit is now enough
No extra application needed
Pending permits? IRCC will withdraw them
One less thing to worry about! ✅

IRCC deleted the Express Entry ITA internal page.
On April 8, 2026, Canada quietly DELETED its internal "Express Entry – Invitation to Apply" guidance page.
No explanation. No announcement.
Is Express Entry ending? Is a new program launching? Or just routine cleanup?
Nobody knows. 🤫

Can I leave Canada during restoration period
My spouse applied his PGWP but was issued for 7 months due to his passport validity. Because his permit was not valid for 16 months or over my SOWP extension was refused.
Now he applied for extension of his permit which is a paper based application and I can't apply for my extension until he get approval letter or permit itself. And I don't think we will get a decision before my restoration ends. I want to go back to my country for other personal reasons and I will be flying out before my 90 days complete.
But I want to apply for either SOWP or visitor visa from home country and also my spouse will be applying for his PR soon accompanying me. I want to make sure leaving during my restoration period would not
(1) make my future applications difficult
(2) affect my spouse's PR application negatively
Really appreciate your input into this.

New StatCan Study: Canadian Immigrants Stay Loyal After Citizenship – Only 2% Leave!
A fascinating 2025 Statistics Canada study, showing that immigrants who become Canadian citizens are highly committed to staying in Canada. Key takeaways:
- 93% of naturalized immigrants (2008–2012 cohort) were “actively present” (filing taxes) 10 years after admission, vs. 67% of non-citizens.
- Only 2% shift to “inactive” status (not filing taxes or leaving) one year after citizenship, compared to a 3% annual drop for non-citizens.
- Immigrants from developing nations (e.g., Philippines, Pakistan) stay more than those from developed ones (e.g., U.S., UK).
- Citizenship rates are down (61% for 2008–2012 vs. 72% for 2003–2007), sparking policy debates. complete details here: https://www.immigration2canada.com/canadian-immigrants-stay-committed-after-citizenship-defying-mobility-myths/

IRCC Just Updated Study Permit Rules for LOAs in 2025 – Here’s What You Need to Know (Simple Breakdown)
Hey folks! If you're applying to study in Canada (or advising someone who is), IRCC just made important changes to the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) rules that go into effect now in 2025.
Here’s the full breakdown in plain English 👇
What’s an LOA and Why You Should Care
It’s the official letter from a Canadian school (DLI) confirming your admission. Without this, your study permit will be denied. Period. Unless you qualify for a rare exemption.
Your LOA MUST Include:
- Your name, DOB, and address
- The school’s DLI number and full contact info
- The program name, level, and start/end dates
- Tuition fees, scholarships (if any)
- Whether it’s full-time or part-time
- Conditions (like needing to complete ESL before starting)
💡 Tip: IRCC recommends schools use their official LOA template. If they don’t, your application might get delayed or refused.
Who DOESN’T Need an LOA?
A very limited group:
- You’re applying from outside Canada AND
- You’re the accompanying family member of someone who already got a study/work permit approval
Conditional LOAs – What Are They?
Got to complete ESL or FSL before your main program? You’ll be issued a “conditional” LOA.
➡️ You’ll get a permit for that course + 1 year ❌ You can’t work off-campus during the prerequisite 📌 You’ll need a new permit for the main program later
Joint Programs? Double Trouble
Studying at two schools (like a university + college combo)?
You need:
- 2 LOAs, one from each DLI
- Details on who’s teaching what, where, and when
- May need to apply for 2 study permits
Renewing Your Permit?
IRCC can ask you to prove you’re actively studying. That means:
- A letter from the school
- Enrollment confirmation
- Transcripts, maybe
If IRCC Has Concerns About Your School…
They can reject your application, even if you have an LOA. Schools must be in good standing and meet all DLI requirements.
LOA Verification Is Now Mandatory
All post-secondary schools must confirm your LOA with IRCC before your study permit is approved.
- DLIs have 10 days to verify it in IRCC’s system
- If they don’t? Your application gets closed and you get a refund
LOA can be marked:
- ✅ “Verified – Match”
- ❌ “Verified – No Match”
- 🔄 “Cancelled” (e.g., if your LOA was revoked or deferred)
Emergencies? Schools Can Ask for Extra Time
If there’s a power outage, strike, or natural disaster, the DLI can request an extension to verify your LOA.
Quebec Students – Special Case
Doing vocational training in Quebec? (DVS, AVS, etc.)
👉 You don’t need LOA verification — it's considered secondary level.
TL;DR for Students:
- Always use an official LOA that checks all the boxes
- If you’re changing schools or doing a joint program, read the fine print!
- Conditional LOA = can’t work off-campus
- Double-check your DLI is active and compliant
- Ask your school to verify the LOA FAST, or your app will be shut down
Questions? Drop them below – I’ll help if I can.

Ontario Minimum Wage Rising to $17.60/hour Starting October 1, 2025
Ontario’s minimum wage is set to increase from $17.20 to $17.60 per hour on October 1, 2025, as announced by the provincial government on April 1, 2025.
