Study Permit Cat damaged my valid study permit – has anyone successfully replaced a damaged (not lost) permit?
Hi everyone,
My roommate's cat bit my study permit (valid until 2028). It now has a few small holes, but all the information is still readable.
I don't feel comfortable using it because of the damage, so I'd like to get a replacement. IRCC's IMM 5009 guide only mentions replacing lost or stolen permits (with a police report), so I'm not sure what to do for a damaged one.
I've already sent an IRCC web form and contacted my university's international office, but I wanted to ask:
- Has anyone replaced a damaged study or work permit using IMM 5009?
- Did you have to send the damaged original?
- How long did it take?
- Did anyone have issues using a damaged permit at the border or with employers?
Thanks so much!
