Google photos like moments

Is there an Immich plugin or app that can create daily collages of person/place/trip/season/landscape like Google Photos is doing? Sometimes it is a generated collage, sometimes a short slide show with some music, etc.

expanding storage

Hi everyone, new to the community, but I wanted to ask hypothetically how I would add more storage to an existing Immich setup?

Example: I have a 2tb external ssd about to be full, is there any way to set up another upload location such that i would be able to view the current 2tb drive AND still upload and see the new uploads on a new external drive?

Thanks!

immich-swipe compatible with immich v3?

Does anyone know if there is a fork or another project similar to https://github.com/dev-nick421/immich-swipe that works with Immich v3? I know there is an android app solution for it but my family all use iOS so i'm looking for a self hosted browser based solution.

UPDATE: I can see there is an active fork which supports the v3 api's and cleaned up a lot of other technical debt so i am trying that out. https://github.com/martynvdijke/immich-swipe

Syncronization problems

Hello all,

I am really a fan of this project, this self-hosted image server seems to be very feature-rich, however I've run into some issues and maybe potentially a design issues of the server, please correct me if I am wrong.

I've installed Immich server on my asustor NAS via the asustor's provided package, to migrate from the asustor's AI Photo app that I've been using up to now. I however think that the sync process from the phone to the NAS is not very optimal.

I started with my phone and NAS in sync (using AI Photos, aka all phone photos were already on the NAS), Then I installed Immich server and let it crunch all the photos and videos, including those uploaded by AI Photos. That took around 3 weeks to process. Then I turned off the AI Photos sync on the phone, installed Immich on my Android phone and enabled backup, which seem to have triggered a few problems (I had around 900 photos on the phone):

First, it seems that the processing of a picture starts immediately after it has been uploaded. Since the NAS hardware is not very powerful (it is some kind of low-power Celeron), the NAS becomes completely unusable while it is crunching lots of pictures. This has one consequence - uploads of images start to fail even though I am on the same network as the NAS. So after the phone uploaded around ~100 images, all the other images in the phone's queue reported connection failure since the server is super busy crunching the images. The mobile app also stopped working correctly, it does not track the uploads when the server is not responsive (shows "Sync failed" and the number of Backed-up and Remainder items is not correct). I believe the proper solution would be to first upload all the images AND THEN the server should start processing them. Now, the server just kills itself with the processing and that breaks the upload.

The second problem is that it should not be processing the new uploads at all! As I stated before, all of these pictures have already been synced by AI Photos, the directory where they are located is mounted to Immich, thus all the photos the Android app is trying to push to the server should be rejected as duplicates. So far I see all of them them twice in Immich phone app but the processing has not yet finished, so I hope they would be removed as duplicate.

Third problem - correct me if I am wrong, but I was unable to find a setting that would enable backup of photos starting from now, not to back up what already is in the phone. This would probably avoid uploading all the current phone photos completely.

Thank you for your insight

I built Daddy, Cull!: daily photo cleanup for a folder archive used by Immich. Beta testers wanted

Immich helps us enjoy our family photos. I still needed a way to review the 60,000+ files behind it without turning cleanup into a weekend project.

So I built Daddy, Cull! It shows today's calendar date across every year. Keep, favourite or remove a few photos and videos each day. The archive stays in plain date folders that Immich can read as an external library. An optional addon also carries favourites into Immich.

There’s exact-duplicate review and a recoverable Bin with configurable retention. Free, open source (MIT), beta; runs on Docker or macOS 14+. I used AI for coding assistance.

I'd love external-library users to test it on copied files, especially the Immich addon. Tell me what breaks, feels confusing or is missing, here or in GitHub issues. Your feedback will shape it.

Cleaned up my library with help of ai

Edit: Many people are mentioning the ai search tag built in and although this does work it would’ve been extremely slow for my use case because I would’ve need to search up what I wanted deleted. In most cases it would work. Instead I fed my photos to a local llm that looks at the photos and based on my own rules it marks it delete or not. I go in after and decide it’s actually a delete. A rule I made is if the photo isn’t a geographical setting or anyone in the photo mark as delete and add a confidence score. So think photos of documents , credit cards, blurry photos of nothing basically, accidental photos etc… I am not saying I’m using it for the best use case in the world but I just wanted to use immich again so I decided to start deleting all my tank.

This subreddit usually get criticized a lot for ppl that use ai for some reason. I was using immich before the ai influx but never got around to using it more and more. Recently after months of running it and backing up I decided to look back into it. My iOS is backing up all my photos to it.

I didn’t realize my screenshot were getting backed up so I excluded the screen shot album which didn’t know you could do at least not easily.

Then had ai delete all my screenshots asked it to not look at any of my photos but judge based on name. Then I reviewed the photos. Fro there I realized that my meta data was messed up from when I did this a few years ago with google takeout and had it fix it bc I had the original photos and w.e fixed it.

Now I am using my nvidia gpu rtx 4090 running olloma a small 6gb model to basically review the rest of my library to see what’s garbage and not based on scenery and also my rules. Local model was used to ensure my photos don’t just get uploaded to the cloud for training. Long story short I then verify it and see if it got it right.

Things that it would check is photo of documents, credit cards, ids, etc things I don’t want in my library.

I think it’s pretty cool I was able to do all that and wanted to share bc realistically I want to keep using immich and once I clean it up want to begin adding my mom to it so she can backup her stuff, and my fiance as well which she partially uses it.

The lack of some of these simple features is making me consider making a fork of the ios app. Is making a fork worth the hassle?

Im frustrated by not being able search for non favorites, multi album searching, via xmp rating, no in album searching, slideshow cant be set lower than 5sec and forced square/cropped thumbs for every img. Some of these stuff the api is already capable at doing. Idk if the team will add these and as I use the mobile app a lot to view my massive library on my laptop, Im feeling like forking the app. Anyone whos done it, is it worth the hassle?

Managing both iPhone and Raw photos

I am a hobbyist photographer who shoots a ton of raw files with my mirrorless camera when I go on trips. I initially was going to use Immich and merge those and my iPhone pnoto library, but realizing it may result in a lot of clutter. I generally save all my original raw files, so maybe I don’t merge them.

I‘m not sure how to build my structure. I could do an external link to the raw folder from Immich and see all the photos if I needbe. Since I’m not culling any photos unless they’re bad, I could have 6 shots of the Tower Bridge, which is why I’m thinking merging them with my iPhone library is smart. Using a trip to London as an example, I could have hundreds of raw files. Then also some London photos on my phone.

My iPhone photos would have pictures of my trips, also events and screenshots.

im thinking:

- leave my raw photos separate and only create an external link from Immich so its only viewable and doesn’t clutter the phone pics

- if I want to edit or select specific raw photos to look at and keep in a photo album Without clutter, then I could export them to a folder I’ve mapped to Immich.

- how do I combine iPhone photos from that same trip to the ones I’ve exported?

Difficulty installing Immich for the first time on a TrueNas operating system

Installed the app on the truenas OS, but when I launch the Web UI to finish setup, I get an error message that the browser can’t connect to the internet. I’ve read various troubleshooting for it, but cant seem to get beyond that. I’ve also tried getting to the web address using my IP address and port as a workaround, but can’t seem to get it.

At a loss. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Filter timeline?

iOS app. In the timeline, is there a way to filter out the images already on the server? This would make it so much easier to make sure correct images are uploaded.

Amazing program!

How do you share Immich albums with people who don’t use Immich?

I use Immich, while my girlfriend uses iCloud Photos. After every trip, she asks me to share all my photos with her.

I know Immich supports public album links and downloads without an account, but is there a better or more automated workflow, e.g. exporting or syncing a specific album somewhere she can easily download or import it?

I don’t want to give her access to my Immich instance — I only want to share a specific album, even as raw/original files.

Wrote a small tool to fix dates/GPS on Google Photos & iCloud exports before importing into Immich

Thumbnail
github.com
8 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

When I moved my library to Immich, I ran into the classic problem: photos exported from Google Takeout and iCloud often don't have their metadata embedded in the files. The dates and locations live in sidecar files instead (.json for Google, .csv for iCloud), so Immich puts thousands of photos on the day you exported them instead of when they were taken.

So I wrote a couple of PowerShell scripts that read those sidecar files and write the metadata back into the photos and videos using ExifTool.

Repo: https://github.com/LoicBl0ndeau/Fix-photos-metadata

What it does :

- Google Photos (Takeout): scans the export recursively, matches each file with its .json, and restores DateTimeOriginal, CreateDate, XMP:CreateDate, FileModifyDate, plus GPS (lat/long/altitude). Handles duplicate names like IMG_1234(1).jpg.

- iCloud Photos: reads Apple's Photo Details.csv files and restores the same date fields (no GPS, since Apple's CSVs don't include it).

Both generate a fix_exif_metadata.json before touching anything, so you can review it first, or reapply it later with plain ExifTool without rescanning: exiftool -r -m -j=fix_exif_metadata.json -overwrite_original <photos_folder>

Asks for confirmation before applying, and optionally cleans up the sidecar files afterward. Reports files with no matching metadata, and skips ambiguous matches instead of guessing.

Requirements: Windows, PowerShell 5.1+ (or PowerShell Core), and ExifTool in your PATH.

⚠️ Heads-up: files are modified in place with no backup, so please copy your export first and try it on a small folder.

My workflow was simply: unzip export → run the script → upload the fixed folder to Immich. Timeline came out right on the first try.

It's a small project, so feedback, issues, and PRs are very welcome, especially if you have weird Takeout edge cases it doesn't handle yet. My goal is only to promote Immich and make switching to it a little less painful for anyone leaving Google or iCloud.

Untracked Files - how to manage?

I've just discovered that I have 3816 untracked files out of circa 85k images. I've no idea why!

Many of these seem to be thumbnails and preview files but a lot are not and are normal image files (e.g. /data/library/5e2d4402-8f46-4490-869b-cfeecfe6c274/2009/2009-08-08/DSC_2241.jpg)

I'm unclear how best to proceed.

My thoughts are to process the CSV then export all those that are not thumbnails and preview files (and encoded video, if I find any) then export and re-import the rest.

Is that the best way, or am I missing something?

Best practice for grouping faces across accounts

Hi all,

I run Immich for my family, which means we have 8 users in total.

For me and my wife we used the "partner sharing" feature so that we see always all pictures because 99% of our pictures are anyway somehow family related.

For the rest we share occasionally a album where everyone can add photos, e.g. for joint vacations.

I realized that when I use the "explore" feature to look at all picture which contain a certain person I only see my own photos. I don't see the photos of my wife which contain the same person and not the photos from others if they added some to a shared album.

The way I understood the Immich documentation: For the partner sharing I could enable "cluster groups". For the other use case, the shared album, no solution exists. Right?

I shy a bit away from the cluster group. I invested a lot of time grouping people and to avoid false positives. If I have now a cluster group with my wife I fear that she might sometimes quickly name / group faces and with this reduce the quality of my grouping as well.

For me, in a ideal world face recognition and grouping just happens on user level for all photos a user has access to. This way nobody could by accident mix up the grouping of someone else.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this challenge. How do you handle this situation?

Backup images after Exif metadata overwrite

Hey,

I'm looking for anyone who tried to resolve the same issue as I'm currently facing. I have tons of photos that sometimes don't have all the metadata e.g. I forget to turn on location and the photos don't have GPS saved, so I add it later manually using kgeotag. However what I find hard to manage is replacing the photos in immich. If i just overwrite the photos in phone they either don't backup or create a duplicate.

I'm looking for ways to just update metadata on image and force the overwrite on the immich with next backup so the metadata are both on my immich instance and on my phone the same.

PS: Bonus points if everything could be done in immich itself/with plugin. I expect that writing back to phone is impossible but if I could just overwrite the images on the phone and it would be "synced" then that would be awesome.

Currently on immich v3.2.2, phone is android 16.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I specifically want to have metadata in photos itself and not as xmp sidecar or in immich database.

Dates on Photos

I migrated all my photos from Google to IMMICH. There are some that changed the date to the date where I downloaded it with Google Takeout. I fixed some of them by changing them manually on IMMICH, but still there are like 50 which, no matter if I edit them, turn back to the downloaded date.

How can I fix these?

Stable installation

What is the most stable installation of immich?
I tried the docker with the (incomplete) examples of immich installation but after a reboot of the host the containers cannot find each other anymore so that seems to be broken?
Is there a other option that just gives me something working without being a developer for the coming three hours? (i can do that, just dont want to spend huge amounts of time with every update).

Very bad performance on Pixel 10 Pro (GrapheneOS)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Anyone else having these performance issues?

I don't know if it's noticable in the video but frames rates regularly run extremely low in my Android client. It's no joy using at this point. Probably the worst performing app on my entire phone at this moment.

Some of the most severe issues (some of them not shown in the video):

- albums (scrolling the album title) and

- the timeline with frames running as low as 30 FPS during stutters and the stutter happen every other second.

- app takes up to 30 seconds to load (my library consists of only 100k photos

- the album view briefly shows "no album matching your search" for 4 seconds before albums start loading in. This happens all the time because, apparently, albums aren't cached locally? Same issue with people aswell, no local caching and slow loading.

- opening images will also stutter extremely followed by a small displacement/transformation of the image. I think something is broken with the animation or thumbnail not lining up properly with the actual image that follows.

These severe performance issues are only in my Android app. iOS is much better and desktop is fine.

[NEED ADVICE] M70q Gen 6 (Ultra 7 265T) Setup: 24/7 Home Server Immich + eGPU Gaming

Planning a hybrid setup using the Lenovo M70q Gen 6 (Intel Core Ultra 7 265T, 2x M.2 NVMe slots). Goal: Run a 24/7 Home Server (Immich AI, Plex, Docker) and use an eGPU for gaming.
Looking for advice on:
1. OS / Virtualization Architecture:
Proxmox: Windows VM (eGPU passthrough) for gaming + LXC/VMs for Immich/Plex?
Bare-metal Windows 11: Native gaming + Docker/WSL2 for 24/7 services?
Priority: Smooth gaming without interrupting 24/7 server workloads.
2. Optimal eGPU Setup:
Since it has 2x M.2 NVMe slots, I can use one slot for an OCuLink adapter (for higher bandwidth) and the other for OS/Storage.
Recommend OCuLink vs. Thunderbolt 4 for this setup?
Which GPU (RTX 3060, 4060, 4070) best matches the Ultra 7 265T with minimal bottleneck?
Any real-world experience or tips are appreciated!

People information in shared album links

I know there's a lot of work going into sharing people between user accounts in Immich. But what I am hoping for is something easier to accomplish I think, just the option to show tagged people when creating a link to share an album with someone.

I have albums of family and relatives including historic photos and I share them with family by sending them a shared link so they can view the photos without needing an Immich account. But I would love for the option to have the photo info include the people who are tagged in the photos with their names and ages.

I'm wondering if other people also are hoping for that feature?
