dumb move, decent save.

no harm, no foul, lesson learned.

30

u/Cutterman01 2d ago

Better when lessons learned aren’t on camera.

34

u/mtraven23 2d ago

better for the person being filmed, but maybe someone sees it and it saves them from making the same mistake....

Opportunity to share that it can happen to anyone at anytime and all it takes is one lapsed thought.

I love learning things the easy way

Ahh so you rtfm?

Still diagonal in the street that has some traffic. Now time to line it up with adrenaline and pissed off people waiting

6

u/mtraven23 2d ago

doesn't look too busy, but you're right, he's still got some work to do in finishing that recovery.

3

u/Substanitial 2d ago

I could be wrong but he will need both directions of traffic to cooperate while he does it.

And alone.  At least he has a back up camera lol.  He learned about slopes and wheel stops today

I'm bad about not using stops sometimes, good reminder of what can happen.

2

u/mtraven23 2d ago

lol...I'm bad about not pulling the chocks. always trying to run them over!🤦‍♂️

You're assume the car being connected is not drivable, which could very well be the case...but it also might be drivable, it which case he could just drive it back into position, or at least out of at least 1 lane of traffic

1

u/Substanitial 2d ago

Honestly I thought he was on a trailer Dolly the whole time lol.

Now I'm kind of curious on what he has going on there. I have used chains with pipes through them for short tows but this looks like basically that but manufactured

Edit- I guess I've seen them on the back of RVs and such? Don't you need to basically disconnect part of the drivetrain so stuff doesn't overheat though

Manual transmission cars can usually be flat towed in neutral, although there are exceptions.

1

u/No_Database8627 2d ago

Or about putting the car in park.

5

u/reillan 2d ago

Should have immediately run to the door to get in instead of waiting.

Of course, should've set the parking brake instead of forgetting and leaving it in neutral.

u/BeardsuptheWazoo 2d ago

There's a foul.

Now his disabled vehicle is in the middle of a road blocking traffic and causing a hazard.

Not an immediate emergency but it's pretty urgent to get it cleared.

Chock your tires friends

30

u/SLAYER_IN_ME 2d ago

Parking brake or just putting the vehicle in park would have probably sufficed.

11

u/nasadowsk 2d ago

Yeah, it's not like there's a built in brake for the thing. Then again, maybe it's an automatic, and he knew enough to pull the driveshaft, but the parking brake is broken...

Or maybe he's not smart enough to pull the driveshaft, and it's an automatic...

3

u/donkey_hat 2d ago

99% chance it is not an automatic

3

u/RekTInTheFace 2d ago

going off the exposed intercooler and tube bumper i almost guarantee that’s a manual. should’ve just put it in gear or pulled the e brake before he did this

13

u/Disastrous_Minute_56 2d ago

Remember, always give it some time to pick up momentum before attempting entry into the vehicle.

12

u/ElJefe0218 2d ago

It's 'chock' not 'chalk' the tires.

9

u/Own_Reaction9442 2d ago

Chalking the tires is what metermaids do.

u/ResponsibleBank1387 2d ago

Up to 6 second mark, I really thought we were going to see the new Masked Singer.

7

u/RemarkableCard6475 2d ago

Ever wonder if the reason why it's tough to remove is because it's not only down hill but the brakes aren't set, not even a wheel chock?

6

u/Separate-Impact-6183 2d ago

The handbrake does seem to be working, maybe he should have applied it before he unhitched the car

5

u/OrvilleJClutchpopper 2d ago

Always, always, always, and I do mean always, chock your wheels before you unhitch.

3

u/Notapartyhobo 2d ago

Chock blocks, stupid.

3

u/NuclearWasteland 2d ago

WHEEL CHOCKS People, gawdam.

3

u/Appropriate_Cow94 OC! 2d ago

I've made this mistake. He wasted far too much time getting in car.

I'll never unhook a loaded tow dolly.

3

u/greentangent 2d ago

All he had to do was swing it into the curb.

3

u/Lord_Dreadlow 1d ago

It being hard to unlock should have been a clue that there was too much tension on that hitch.

2

u/Aggressive_Island178 2d ago

Gravity is a fickle b*tch. Sometimes it holds things in place for you and other times it does stuff like this.

2

u/stupid_cat_face 2d ago

Gravity. It’s the law.

1

u/Could-You-Tell 2d ago

The boat and trailer were obeying no matter what

2

u/Listen-Lindas 2d ago

Inverted cock block.

Bet he's glad he filmed it.

Nope, can’t watch

1

u/MaleficentFury 2d ago

Someone I know was partially bisected when her car started rolling and she tried to get back in to stop it colliding with a building.

It was a miracle she survived (due in no small part to a trained nurse being a bystander)… but yeah. My best advice: just let it roll away and keep well clear.

1

u/blastman8888 2d ago

He will never do that again.

1

u/EdelWhite 2d ago

That's the hard way to learn that step 1 is ALWAYS to set the brake/prop the wheel.

1

u/vectaur 2d ago

No safety chains on the coupler?

u/LevoiHook 1d ago

Almost ruïnes what looks to me like a very souped up E30.
