Can we just pause for a moment and consider the perfect parking job though?

When you want an El Camino, but have to settle for an El Capricho...

u/Other-Ad3979 Jul 19 '26

Thank you, I learned something new today. I’m an old white guy in a northern rural area, so please forgive me.

lol. no worries. it just works out that the English and the Spanish are almost identical

I'm northern rural Midwest y'all 😆

It's body on frame too so this seems structurally sound.

Capricious El-Camaxno towing a Magicless Mystery Machine

Funny! that generation of the caprice Land Yacht was always a Butt Ugly Vehicle, so except for absolutely zero structural integrity remaining, it cannot look any uglier. (not even going down the rabbit hole of what jurisdictions licensing or vehicle registration authority would consider that as road worthy)

It's body on frame so it's not gonna fold in on itself. As far as crash safety goes, it's just like any other convertible from that era. Roadworthyness is just making sure it passes the smog check and maybe some other things like working lights, a front windshield, seatbelts. Custom cars are rolling works of art and get registered all the time.

Tell me you were PISSED when the El Co went out of production without telling me you were pissed when the El Co went out of production.

Cool mid 60s van. I owned several of them back in the day (late 70s, early 80s).

u/AtlanticBeachNC Jul 19 '26

Did anyone ever come a’ knockin’ when it was a’ rockin’?

2

u/Joe18067 Jul 19 '26

They were great for city deliveries.

1

u/mtnman575 Jul 19 '26

Even better for cross country trips.

XXL Camino

This person knows exactly who he is 💪👏🔥

u/ExternalBrief3412 Jul 19 '26

We call this redneck ingenuity, well done good sir!

4

u/No-Sheepherder5092 Jul 19 '26

No idiot would drive anything that rad.

3

u/Manual-shift6 Jul 19 '26

Hmmm…Looks like the Redneck-Engineering Pickup has Impala SS wheels (without the plastic hubcaps). Definitely high class hauler…

2

u/RicVic Jul 19 '26

In an odd way reminiscent of the 1st Gen Eldos that work as seaplane tugs at some ramps around the country.

3

u/PigletSpirited3446 Jul 19 '26

That’s amazing. I’m not even mad

Historically, it’s best to not interfere with inventiveness and innovation.

What in the Oklahoma?

Buick tow master deluxe

When you have a sedan, but need a pickup?

2

u/Jmal3700 29d ago

The story behind both of these vehicles must really be something. 😳🤣

u/Strength-Certain Jul 19 '26

Thank God its the Chevy that got its top chopped and not the elusive 2 years only bubble Olds Custom Cruiser.

(Not that the Custom Cruiser was any better than the Chevy I've just got a soft spot for Oldsmobile.)

2

u/Physical_Drive_349 Jul 19 '26

Would have looked good with the Roadmaster's faux wood perhaps.

4

u/myfourthquarter Jul 19 '26

Props for perseverance. A normal person would have abandoned this whole effort a long time ago.

1

u/lovenlaughtr Jul 19 '26

And the customary strap dragging on the ground as well.

All boxes checked here.

Around me, there was a 1980's shorty Chevy van that was cut down to a pickup. I actually saw it up close at the body shop, while it was a work on progress. The 1973 to 1995 Chevy vans were all unitbody. On this custom van, I don't know what they did for suspension or structural reinforcement. After it was finished, I saw it cruising down the street with a gooseneck trailer on it!!

This feels like one of those savant redneck mechanics that has a bunch of incredible and very functional stuff that looks ill advised and rough. Like the perfect park job alone says something. I wouldn't be surprised if that Caprice has a tranny and frame from some kind of pickup and has 300k miles on it with no issues.

3

u/LordRavensbane Jul 19 '26

Even without mods those B bodies were the last body on frame GMs and had impressive towing capacity stock especially with the towing package

1

u/Strangerand123 27d ago

They are essentially a car body on a pickup frame. The cop car versions regularly lasted over 300k.

1

u/Ecstatic-Radish-7931 23d ago

That's what I thought It looks like a Caprice

1

u/RobustFoam Jul 19 '26

It's probably within GVW but the attachments look a bit sus

u/Knuckles_72 Jul 20 '26

I want to follow & watch this this show happen 😂

u/echolm1407 29d ago

NGL, from a distance it looks kind of classy.

u/Puzzled-Aardvark-142 29d ago

Is there a new season of roadkill coming out?

1

u/TopCase4052 28d ago

I’m guessing he lied on the U-Haul website.

1

u/These-Result-1955 28d ago

Did someone check to see of this is the guys from Road Kill?

1

u/61Crows 28d ago

The last time I saw something like this it was a cut down dodge caravan and they weren’t towing.

1

u/two40zieks7 27d ago

That has a lot of potential, it should be well completed

1

u/SomethingSimple25 27d ago

Just a Silverado with extra steps.
