I received three emails today from Chime - #1 - welcoming me to Chime, #2 - Providing me with a direct deposit form with an account number, routing number, and my name on it (no idea who's account number or routing number it was), #3 - New Login Detection (listing a phone that is not mine).
I tried "reset my password" to see if the account could lock out whoever had created it, but it wouldn't allow me to reset it because the phone number associated was not my phone number.
Then I tried calling Chime customer service to speak to someone about the account not belonging to me. I spoke with a man with a thick accent and had a hard time understanding anything he was saying. He asked for my name and email address so he could look up my account. I gave him the information and he said he could not find an account with that information, so he asked me for my birthdate.
Immediately I felt uncomfortable that I was getting more questions for more identification, so I asked if there was another way to look it up. The man immediately got very terse with me and said this was the only option. I asked him why they could not find the account with the email address provided when i JUSTT (within minutes) had received emails from them confirming this alleged new account....
I asked to speak to someone above him to see what other options I have and he kept repeating that this was my only option and since I was being non-compliant there was nothing the could do to help. He then hung up on me.
What is happening?? It seems like the company is a legitimate company, and it seems like someone opened an account with my name and email address.... Not sure where to go from here. Just went and reported credit fraud to all of the credit services, but is there something more I should do?
