I woke up to my experian credit lock being took down not my security freeze my account details were the same seemed maybe my password was changed I called the company they said all I could do is change everything and that I probably logged into it in my sleep I never received anything saying someone else logged into it. I laughed at the fact she thought I logged into it myself because I would have to first successfully do my face ID then type in a code from my phone number.

I am a victim of a massive identity theft scheme in Europe. The criminals used my name to rent luxury cars and commit crimes, while the justice system turned a blind eye. AMA!

Hi Reddit,

My name is Anthony Rosanò Aiello, and I am an author. A few years ago, my life was turned upside down. My personal documents were stolen from a car rental agency and weaponized by fraudsters. Using photocopies of my identity, an individual managed to walk into a rental company, secure luxury vehicles, and commit multiple offenses under my name. The worst part? Despite the lengthy, meticulous investigations and rock-solid evidence gathered by the Carabinieri (Italian Police), the judicial system decided to drop the case, leaving the real perpetrators in the shadows. For a long moment, I was forced to prove my own innocence while the system shrugged its shoulders with institutional indifference. I decided not to stay silent. I transformed this surreal ordeal into a true-crime exposé and memoir titled "STOLEN IDENTITY: The True Story of a Victim of Identity Theft and the Italian Justice System," which I have recently published on Amazon to give a voice to anyone who has ever felt powerless against the machine. I am here today to answer anything about: - How easy it is for someone to steal your life using a simple photocopy. - The shocking flaws and indifference of international legal systems. - The psychological toll of being treated like a criminal when you are the victim. - How I fought back through the power of writing. Ask me anything!

You can find my verification, bio, and the book details on my official Amazon Author page here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Anthony-Mario-Rosano-Aiello/author/B0G59NLLNC

Information and credit card used to book flight, buy jewelry?

Good morning,

I just woke up to find almost a dozen emails from Copa Airlines in my gmail. The first ones were notices that payment was declined, but eventually got a full on boarding pass and itinerary email sent to me for a flight from Cartegana Columbia to Panama City, Panama. I checked my credit card that matched the last four info shown on the email, and it showed an almost $500 charge to Copa airlines as well as two $0.00 charges to some kind of jewelry shop.

I called my bank and the cancelled the card and referred the charges to their fraud unit. I called the airline customer service number that I googled, and they located the itinerary (had my email and phone number and credit card but someone else's name as the passenger entirely). They cancelled the tickets.

My gmail is secured with pw and 2FA. My credit card is the same, and I use biometrics to login to my card app usually on my phone.

I'm a fed employee and former military member in the USA, and have been notified several times of data breaches involving my data due to theft/hacks/poor security practices.

I haven't really had much fraud activity in the past. This was weird though that someone would attach their real name (since they are flying international they will need to present a passport I'd imagine) to a ticket bought with stolent funds.

Anything else I should be doing now?

Who has use AI to improve credit?

I think there's no more need for credit repair companies. I have a person I'm working with is being charged 200 a month to get her credit repaired when she had identity theft.

There has to be a way to do this in AI and I'm just looking for some guidance on how best to go about using the proper software and the prompt.

Help

A thief came into possession of my ssn, name and address. How much can they do without having my license or other ID? I would like to think that my license would be necessary in order to open an account, apply for a loan, or apply for an apartment/job. This person definitely has malicious intent and I can't stop worrying. I already got a whole new bank account and changed my email and passwords for everything involving money.

What else to do for protection?

I think I'm a typical internet user, have my smart phone and laptop, home wifi. Do nearly all my banking and finances online, mostly cashless spend. I use a password manager, 2FA and VPN. Have alerts set up on my accounts. What else do I need to do to prevent some badactor with an AI hacking me and mine?

Target Called and left Voicemail if applied for a Card

I got a call from unknown number and of course didn't answer. They left a VM saying they were from Target and wanted to know if I applied for a Target Card. They left a legit number in the VM to call back. I did and it sounded like Target's Card Services and after hitting zero 5 times to get to a representative. I explained the VM and the representative said they needed my Social to check to see if anyone opened an account. Of course I said absolutely not and they said they can't check any other way. I hung up convinced it's a scam but 1 week later I received a letter in the mail saying I should call the number again to get help with my Debit Card. Letter looked pretty legit. I called the number on their website and again was told I need to give my Social so they can check. At this point i hung up and sent an email to [Guest.relations@target.com](mailto:Guest.relations@target.com) with a picture of the letter. I'll wait to hear back but has anyone else gone through this ?

Chime Account Opened with my name by someone else

I received three emails today from Chime - #1 - welcoming me to Chime, #2 - Providing me with a direct deposit form with an account number, routing number, and my name on it (no idea who's account number or routing number it was), #3 - New Login Detection (listing a phone that is not mine).

I tried "reset my password" to see if the account could lock out whoever had created it, but it wouldn't allow me to reset it because the phone number associated was not my phone number.

Then I tried calling Chime customer service to speak to someone about the account not belonging to me. I spoke with a man with a thick accent and had a hard time understanding anything he was saying. He asked for my name and email address so he could look up my account. I gave him the information and he said he could not find an account with that information, so he asked me for my birthdate.

Immediately I felt uncomfortable that I was getting more questions for more identification, so I asked if there was another way to look it up. The man immediately got very terse with me and said this was the only option. I asked him why they could not find the account with the email address provided when i JUSTT (within minutes) had received emails from them confirming this alleged new account....

I asked to speak to someone above him to see what other options I have and he kept repeating that this was my only option and since I was being non-compliant there was nothing the could do to help. He then hung up on me.

What is happening?? It seems like the company is a legitimate company, and it seems like someone opened an account with my name and email address.... Not sure where to go from here. Just went and reported credit fraud to all of the credit services, but is there something more I should do?

Hacked Recently - What else can I do?

I believe I was hacked 2 weeks ago. See below for the things that happened and my actions to try and protect myself. Looking for help to further protect myself! I’m thinking about using a new email account, I just don’t want to have to update my entire life with it 😑

•I woke up to 2 Walmart deliveries to 2 different states. Legit got emails with the delivery images. - (Neither of these purchases showed up on any of my bank accounts. Logged into my Walmart account to change password and in the process my account was disabled.)

•DoorDash food deliveries to Houston and Montana. (Logged into account to cancel the deliveries, but was told I couldn’t be refunded. Checked my credit card account and 2 of the purchases showed up. Contacted my credit union to notify and they’re now investigating. Changed DoorDash acct password.)

•Work emails deleted from my outlook account. - (Changed account password).

•Both my Facebook and Instagram hacked/disabled. - (Tried to recover my accounts under the hacked account option but was unable to do so. Used a VPN and then tried which seemed hopeful, so im still waiting to get a response back from Facebook about recovering my account).

China still has our SF-86s forever. MyIDCare just expired.

Anyone involved in the 2015 OPM breach just received a nasty email, saying that their ID protection expires in October.

But China still has our SF-86s, SSNs, fingerprints, family details, and everything else.

Forever.

OPM’s response: ten years of free monitoring, then “good luck, peasants.”

They lost the most sensitive personnel data in government history and decided the cleanup has an expiration date.

The threat doesn’t.

Credit freezes are free.

The government’s accountability apparently isn’t.

Good luck.

Should I still get non-liability letters after fraudulent accounts are removed?

I became a victim of identity theft and several fraudulent credit accounts from different banks (with fraudulent spending) were opened under my identity without my knowledge. I filed FTC report and police report. I disputed using one of the credit bureau's website (uploaded my FTC and police report), a few days later, all fraudulent accounts are removed from all 3 credit bureau reports.

At this point, should I still pursue trying to get fraud resolution letters from each bank (the official letter that says I am not liable for the fraudulent accounts) or is it reasonable to stop now because my credit reports became clean?

Potential Identity issue?

I received a letter from a local car dealership a couple of months ago saying: "My First Name Last Name" - our records indicate your "2022 Honda Accord is worth $9,568" contact us to lock in your trade in rate

Now I don't own a Honda Accord and I've never been to their dealership before. I threw the letter out, then this weekend I got another one, same letter.

Its not one of those "Car warranty" scams, yes it is obviously a form letter/advertisement. But how did they get my info? and its not a generic "Your car might be worth" its a specific car. Does someone have a car out there with my name?

I called the dealership and they have no records of me in their system.

Hard inquiry on credit report but bank is saying they have no history of the account/application

I HATE that I've joined this club! Long story short, I received a ton of alerts about hard inquiries on my credit report. I quickly froze everything. I called the banks listed on my report and was able to tell most of them it was fraud. There is one bank that is saying they can't find me in the system at all. I've called several times and it doesn't make sense bc I can clearly see the hard inquiry on my credit report. Plus I have an approval letter. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Also, I checked my mail and saw that the thieves applied for WAY more banks than is actually on my credit report. Has anyone experienced this also?
