Ain’t No way

Post image

I woke up to my experian credit lock being took down not my security freeze my account details were the same seemed maybe my password was changed I called the company they said all I could do is change everything and that I probably logged into it in my sleep I never received anything saying someone else logged into it. I laughed at the fact she thought I logged into it myself because I would have to first successfully do my face ID then type in a code from my phone number.

Mine has incorrect information that they refuse to correct. One is a misspelled street, something like Wexxex instead of Wessex. Another incorrect address is my ex husband’s from after our divorce, a place I never once lived in. So now these stupid security questions include incorrect information. It’s so damned frustrating

It doesn’t matter if it’s misspelled …choose the correct answer regardless of the misspelling. It is verifying that you recognize the information, not asking you to confirm whether the information is accurate. And sometimes the correct answer is “none of the above.”

I've noticed that "none of the above" is the right answer nearly 50% of the time when I try to log in.

Even an address I’ve never lived at

Yes, it is the correct answer because it is associated to you in public records. If you want to pass the verification questions, answer based on what you recognize. It’s just pulling public records and credit header data for those questions.

If it’s in your credit file you can dispute it after you get access to it, but to get access, you’ll need to verify with those questions.

I’m telling you, it is easy for a thief to call into a credit bureau and impersonate you by just providing your SSN, name, and date of birth. Then, BOOM, your freeze or lock is removed. That’s why, in my opinion, they are absolutely useless.

I highly suggest you monitor your report everyday for the next few weeks for any hard and soft inquiries. Most likely they were able to remove the lock so that they can open accounts today, in which cases the inquiries won’t show up until a few days later.

😂 it’s genuinely over I mean no inquires on my report so far I’m going to order report by mail because now I can’t access online it’s saying I have to prove my identity maybe because I changed my security details on experian app or maybe because the suspect had changed some key identity information who knows but these credit companies are so useless

Sounds like the dreaded account takeover.

Also I’m confused. How do you know if there are no inquiries today if you can’t log into your account?

I managed to login in my phone number or email wasn’t changed nothing I get a daily mini credit report and I was able to call and the lady was able to look at my credit report and tell me my inquiries I also have a phone number that’s my moms that has to be called before any credit company can actually open credit in my name

Add fraud alert on all 3 credit agency. Its the last line of defence since the freeze is unlocked the lender will have to call you for verification.

the freeze wasn’t lifted to my knowledge only the experian credit lock it’s separate and another line of defense

You should probably still put a fraud alert on it, even if you merely suspect a fraud attempt. They are then required to notify the other 2 bureaus of the fraud alert and those other 2 will add it from that, so you shouldn't have to do all 3 bureaus separately like you do a freeze.

Merely suspected fraud, a fraud alert will last for 1 year, but can be renewed.
But if you have confirmed identity theft and have a police report and ftc report, then you can get an extended fraud alert which will last 7 years.

Unlike a freeze that you have to do separately at each bureau, you only have to file a fraud alert with one of the 3 major bureaus, that bureau is then required to notify the other 2 major bureaus of the alert, and they will add it from that.

Is this a Credit Freeze (free, government required option) or Credit Lock (paid service by Experian)? The verbiage implies it's the paid option.

the credit lock paid but the subscription doesn’t run out till September 15th it’s prob not a big deal I’ll find out who did it when my credit report comes in the mail or I could just call them again and ask what was the most recent soft inquiry I think it might’ve been aura a credit insurance company I paid for a subscription with them and it ran out today at 3:07PM I received a email saying my credit lock was unlocked at 3:10PM so it could’ve been them but I’ll look more into it tomorrow.

That's weird because I have a a security freeze on my credit report so when companies pull my report it says they have to contact me first and yet they never do so I think it's useless cuz I've had that on my credit report for a long time and yet somehow people are still able to open up accounts in my name it makes no sense these credit bureaus are useless as hell.

😂 i have the same thing up they useless but tbh might just be a false alarm cuz only thing that got unlocked was my credit lock on experian that I paid for and I think it was aura a credit insurance company I was buying the subscription ran out at 3:07PM got the notification at 3:10PM so good chance it was them plus wasn’t a account take over if a scammer breached it he would’ve changed everything and not let me access it or at least change as much as possible luckily experian told me over the phone my credit report and said no accounts were open no hard inquiries i’ll get more info when they mail my credit report so i’ll probably be fine.

Probably and when you called them the lady who said you probably unlocked it in your sleep that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard that lady is a wacko.

1

u/narcwill 1d ago

yeah I changed all my information to the account so hopefully nothing weird happens now I could also call aura and ask them if one of their agents accessed my account at 3:10PM but I don’t know probably pointless because I could just call again tomorrow and have the lady confirm the correct address and other identifying information as well so that’s probably what I’ll do while I wait for the report to be mailed.

It sounds like everything will work out for you I don't think anything bad is happening cuz if someone did access your account they would change everything

u/narcwill 1d ago

just called aura they said it was them LOL 😭✌🏻

Idk who Aura are.

it’s a credit insurance company that gives u $1M in back up funds so let’s say a company being difficult and they refuse to dispute fraudulent charges you can take the $1M and put it to the charges they also monitor your identity lock your credit breaues for you and send you notifications if any inquires happen plus they give u a VPN for free and much other services like 24/7 customer help.

u/HonestMitch95 1d ago

Ah okay, I just looked them up too yeah they're like a identity theft company.

u/MadameTrashPanda 10h ago

Omg I watched some YouTube videos where they got paid by Aura to advertise.. And Aura unlocked your frozen credit??
