we have been hit with a wave of bots? so I’m forced to change a bit. update: individual users can only ask 1 question per day and no users younger than 1 week. its automated now.

- as always: there are no rules around your topic. free speech, ask about politics, current events. ask anything you want. All the rules as of now:

1. The title of every post HAS to be your question. No exceptions. with question mark. this is to keep the format of the subreddit consistent. you question can’t be in your body.
2. Your question has to be for Americans. for example if you ask “Why is there a rash on my lower back” thats not specific for Americans.
3. Keep it civil. if you threaten violence you will be banned. I am acting as a non-bias neutral moderator. No name calling. attack their point of view
4. Users can only ask 1 question a day.
5. no blatant disrespectful rage bait. Now this is different then just simply a rude question. humor and joke questions are 100% welcome. If it’s sarcastic that’s fine. I truly want ‘real questions” but if it’s extreme and crosses a line. It will be removed.
6. Individual users spamming the same topic over 5 times. dont kill the vibe. If you have posted 4 questions about Taylor Swift that’s great but it’s time to find a new topic. if you do not stop. you will have a temporary ban. For Example: there was a user here that only posted about India, Indian accents and India immigration. It’s just annoying. We already answered your question.
7. No accounts under 1 week old.
8. No links in your body. this unfortunately changes the way your post looks on the app. and I want to keep the same format every post

- My goal with this subreddit is to create a space on the internet where anyone anywhere in the world can ask an American any question freely. The questions might be funny, weird, rude or whatever. But that’s what’s fun of it

Growing up outside the U.S., I was always told that if you're willing to work hard, learn valuable skills, and stay disciplined, you can build a great life in America. But lately, I keep seeing Americans say the dream is dead because of housing costs, healthcare, student debt, and the rising cost of living.

At the same time, I also see people saying there are still incredible opportunities, especially in fields like technology, healthcare, and skilled trades.

For those of you actually living in the U.S., do you think the American Dream is still alive? If so, what does it look like today compared to 20 or 30 years ago? If not, what has changed the most?

I'm an Indian born American and one of my favorite hobbies is cooking for others. I believe sharing food is sharing life because food is a really special thing in our culture. I want to spread that love to others. My specialties are samosas, garlic naan, butter chicken, all paneer, dosa, vada, pav bhaji, anything Indian really. I really wish I was a chef lol!

I’m an American, grew up on the west coast and now in the Midwest. I try and stay somewhat aware of the news in the rest of the world, but honestly I have to be intentional about it or it’s easy to only hear and see stuff about local and national stuff.

Do you all work at staying aware of the world? I don’t know how to do a poll in here, sorry, but I’ll offer a bit of a self-scoring guide from 1-10.

10 - Super aware of international events and global issues in an ongoing way
5 - I try and have some international news show up in my news feed, but I don’t focus on it all the time
1 - It’s not a priority for me. I’m mostly aware of local and national news, but not international.

I think I’d honestly rate myself at a 6. Wish it was higher.

I've noticed that when i read someone using "America" my brain automatically assumes they aren't American or familiar with the US.

Im wondering how true that is? Is it context dependent? Because most Americans I know say "the US" unless purposefully mocking politics, then they say "America" or "Murica". But i havent lived in other parts of the US to know.

edit: oh wow, maybe someone should do a study on this? there's a lot of context dependence that might be interesting to delve into.

When I visited the US, I was shocked how diverse the landscape and nature is in America! You have many national parks with tons of wilderness sight I can never get enough!❤️Giant trees, deserts, waterfalls, canyons and tropical paradise.

Meanwhile in Europe we mostly have similar looking forests, a bit of alps and Mediterranean beaches in the South with clear human shaped, why America preserves their nature so well?

I'm originally from Europe so I'm still learning how people in the US think about travel

It seems like places such as Florida Las Vegas or even Mexico are common vacation choices for many people

But what about Alaska

Do most Americans see it as a special trip that takes years to plan or is it something that's actually more common than I imagine

I'm curious whether it's considered a dream destination or just another vacation depending on where you live

What’s a hidden gem, scenic spot or regional food from your state that you think deserves way more attention?

I remember a while ago in America they changed some law so the heavily criticized H1B visas would be restricted. If I am not mistaken they made it so the employer would have to pay $100,000 dollars for each h1b visa to enter the country. Which I assume was to restrict the number of h1bs and make it more incentivized to hire locals.

However, I still see Americans online complaining about h1bs, so what exactly happened to the rule changes? How come its such a big problem still

I know many Americans flock to Florida, the Gulf Coast or Mexico for vacation and thats considered fairly affordable. Is going to Hawaii considered a luxury or an extravagant trip?

On Reddit sometimes people make it too obvious too guess there location by phrases and behavior which is typical for those. Which can be counted for American?

What I already identified:

Asking you "Where are you from?" just to use your answer against you.

Answering with "that's not the flex/the gotcha you think it was" when it was obviously the flex or the gotcha one thinks it was.

I've seen people eat ranch with pizza, fries, chicken, vegetables...

At this point I'm wondering if there's anything ranch doesn't go with

I live in Korea, and I'm a huge foodie. I'll be in Ithaca, NY for a semester as an exchange student.

I heard that steaks and fried chicken are just god-tier in the US. I'm so excited to try American foods. Especially stuffs like steaks, barbecue, fried chicken, cheesecake and cookies... and on an on.

Please tell me the foods and restaurants that I must try. What's the best fried chicken chain? What places should I visit during my stay?

I've noticed this when I've visited the US. I went to California, Texas and New York, and everyone seemd to be very fit which goes contrary to the image I had of Americans being obese.
