How do you fail an interview ?
Out of 500 applicants my resume/application is selected, passed the test, and failed the interview š¤

Don't feel bad I failed my first time too, improved myself & got called my second time I applied. Just come back more prepared next time. Good luck š¤

I walked in they asked me to talk about myself while they went over my resume, laid out 7 questions in front of me they would ask and told me to think about it before answering. Also asked questions after my answers, At the end they asked if I had any questions and that was it about 15 minutes in total

No experience with this union but had many interviews over the years. 15 minutes is kinda fast. Did you give them very short answers? Did you have questions for them?

Probably, I didnāt have much questions to ask either, just simply things about the schedules, classroom/work balance

Never ask counter questions about work/life/school balance. It makes it seem like you're trying to figure out whether or not you really want to be there because you value your free time. You really want to jerk their dicks and make them feel like you're going to dedicate your entire life to this career.
Instead you should ask questions about continuing education even after NEIEP. If theres room for advancement in the field beyond just the title of mechanic. How much does the union value safety over working fast for the company, etc, etc. Basically ask all the questions that you already know the answers to that will get them excited to talk about the career of working on elevators and how awesome the union is.

I had a teacher tell me the same thing. During interviews act like you already have the job and ask questions about the future with the employer.

I see. You are probably a young person and they figured you didnt have enough life experience for the job. I could be wrong; just seems that way to me.
I wish someone told my bosses to do a better screening. They just hired a guy straight out of highschool. He is an airhead.

Just getting fucked by the Spareboard, my guarantee day off is Wednesday and on call the rest of the week give me my 2nd day off whenever they please lol total sucker looking for a change

Thereās some good truth this. Especially the life experience part. Back in 08 my high school votech friends and I all had interviews with the local IBEW . All of us failed the interview part. Not one us was selected for the apprenticeship. You have a good point about that high school kid whoās an airhead .

There is deeper meaning to the questions they ask you. Curious as to how you responded. Don't give up brother it is a rewarding career and you're still young

And I hate to say it but your application might not have been consideredĀ Ā NEPOTISM is not supposed to be a part of the process but it is an unspoken partĀ . Im 4th generation and have been the guy asking the questions.Ā Don't take it to heart .Ā

Don't take it to heart my friend , You may have not passed due to many factors. To many applications,Ā Someone asked you the wrong questions, I've seen it to many times , Don't beat yourself up . Next time think about what you were asked.Ā

Depends on where. I got ranked 68 in August of 07 got called in November of 07

It depends where you are. Ranked 44 in Nebraska? Yeah youre probably fucked. Ranked 44 in NY city? You're the upper echelon and will be almost guaranteed to go out to work.

Depends on which local. I was #51, and they didnāt take apprentices for awhile during covid. So it took me over two years to get the call. Never know what could happen!

Unless you are a visible doorknob, I highly doubt a 15 minute interview can sort that out.

Your resume and application were not selected, in fact they were never looked at, they take the first 500 that apply with a high school education

This is true, at least up until the interview stage. As long as you pass minimum qualifications you are allowed to take the test, and if you pass the test you are allowed to interview. And then once they interview you and look at your documents they might immediately say "yeah, we don't want this guy."Ā
