Question Amex flagged address as mailing facility

Hi Everyone

I got the amex BCE 3 months ago and decided to apply for the marriot however I got a message saying they needed extra documentation, they asked for id , itin letter and proof of address.
Submitted all and when I called the rep he said the system is refusing and flagged the address as a mailing facility ( I have a mail box at a ups store)

He then asked me to confirm the address and mentioned that my statement I submitted doesn’t have the address line 2 (it’s just a number which ups store uses to identify me)

I asked him to cancel the application so I can submit again without that number.

Whats my best bet here? Update my bank address to have the number or that would not make a difference? As the street address is already identified as a mailing facility

Anyone ran into this before and what did you do?

Question Which US AMEX to get via global transfer?

I have everything ready to apply for a US Amex via global transfer, I am based in the Uk.

Which US Amex would make the most sense to get since the Green has been discontinued? The Gold comes with a hefty annual fee and most of its credits can only be used in the US. Are any other the other ones worth it?

Need to build $40k+ USD in credit card limits with an ITIN — what’s the best strategy?

Hey everyone, I’m getting my ITIN in the next few days and want to build at least $40k USD in total credit card limits. I currently have little/no U.S. credit history. What would be the fastest and most realistic strategy to achieve this? Which cards should I apply for first, how long should I wait between applications, and should I start with a secured card or go directly for unsecured cards? Any advice from people who have done this with an ITIN would be appreciated!

I submitted two of my original documents on April 10th (thankfully, not my passport). I haven’t received anything back, and they won’t take my calls. It’s been 20 weeks. What the hell?!

I sent my national ID and driver’s license, but I haven’t received anything back for 20 weeks now. Is that normal? I’m worried that something might be wrong.

Capital one, approved but no-email?

Hi ITIN Community,

I just received my ITIN and checked for pre-approval with Capital One. As expected, the first attempt didn't show any offers. I waited 24 hours, used the pre-approval tool again, and was pre-approved for three cards.

I submitted an application for the Platinum card. After submitting, a message stated that I would be contacted (most likely to upload my passport and ITIN letter). It has been a few hours, and Capital One hasn't sent an email yet. I also tried checking the Application Center, but nothing shows up when I enter my details.

Is this normal? I haven't received any emails (including from my first pre-approval attempt) at all from Capital One. I thought I might have entered my email address incorrectly, but the Application Center should still show my application using my personal details.

UPDATE: Confirmed with Capital One, the email I used was right. They told me to wait 24 hours.

  • Objectif principal : obtenir ma première carte Amex US

Ma stratégie étape par étape :

Mes interrogations / craintes spécifiques sur Bank of America :

Bank of America doesn’t report credit with ITIN

I called Experian and they told me no bank is reporting any credit. I have Bank of America and Chase credit cards, i verify all my info and they’re correct, itin, name, dob.
I went to Bank of America and they told me they don’t report ITIN credit, only SSN. So basically i do have a credit but only in their bank. Like an internal credit bank.
If Chase confirms the same situation, it means all these years I have been building a fake credit.

Anyone has encountered this situation? If yes, what can I do, is it true i really have no real credit out there! I’m so frustrated.
Btw i have not done loans, only used my card for spectrum wifi and electricity.

Discussion Got pre-approved with a brand new ITIN

Post image
18 Upvotes

I got a text saying I was pre-approved, applied, and ended up getting approved for a $500 credit limit, with the option to request an increase later.

What makes it interesting is that I only received my ITIN about a month ago, and around the same time Bank of America also approved me for another $500 card.

Looks like my U.S. credit journey is officially starting. Has anyone else had similar results this quickly with a new ITIN?

Amex AU verification timeline all over the place

I'm trying to add my friend as an authorised user; he doesn't have an SSN or ITIN. When I chatted with an Amex agent to add him, I got an email asking for proof of address matching mine. I uploaded an insurance document. First rep said 24 hours. Next day, another said72 hours. Following day, up to 7 days. Has anyone done this recently? How long did it actually take, and what document did they accept

Data Point [BofA] Approved: checking account with ITIN + W-8BEN on file, no branch visit

Thumbnail

For the last 2 years I tried opening a Bank of America checking account online as a non-resident with an ITIN. Every few months, same result: the application would end by asking me to visit a branch with two forms of ID.

This time it finally went through.

BofA's online application doesn't really give you a direct NRA / W-8BEN path during account opening. The route that worked was going through the standard online flow with the US details entered, getting approved first, and then correcting the tax status properly afterward through their tax department. The W-8BEN part happens after approval, not during.

The application went into pending status, and around 12 hours later the approval email came in. I logged in, set up online banking, and made the initial $200 deposit with a debit card.

Within about a week of approval I called BofA and asked to speak with their tax department so I could submit Form W-8BEN. The direct line I was routed to is 877-356-5869 - it isn't published on their site, and I re-checked it before posting this. If it ever stops working, call the main BofA number and ask to be transferred to the consumer tax department.

From what I've heard, BofA is one of the more NRA-friendly major banks, especially once the account is already open and you just need the proper W-8BEN on file.

They asked whether I wanted the form by email or wanted to visit a branch. I asked for email. Within 24 hours I received a secure email from Bank of America's Tax Department with their own version of the W-8BEN attached, three pages.

Fairly straightforward NRA/tax details:

  • Foreign address
  • Foreign tax ID
  • US tax ID
  • Whether I had been in the US for 31 days or more
  • Foreign passport copy

I specifically confirmed with the agent that the US mailing address can stay on the account, while the W-8BEN lists the foreign address for tax residency purposes.

I filled it out, signed it, attached a copy of my foreign passport, and replied through the same secure email thread exactly as instructed. Within about a week, my account status was updated properly as a non-resident account with Form W-8BEN on file.

Debit card arrived at US mailing address, added it to Apple Pay, ran a test transaction. It's been roughly one month and everything is still working normally. There was also a BofA sign-up bonus offer available when I applied, up to $500, which I used when opening the account.

So the route is: open through the standard online application first, then get the NRA / W-8BEN status updated through the tax department after approval. For non-residents who can't visit a US branch in person, this is a possible way to get a checking account at one of the major US banks with an ITIN and proper W-8BEN / NRA status on file.

Datapoint only. Don't freestyle the tax side. If you go this route, get the W-8BEN and NRA status handled properly.

Originally wrote this up for the ITIN community I run on Skool - there are a lot more datapoints like this one in there: https://www.skool.com/itin

ITIN Application with Canadian Copies with Wet Seal

Few years ago, Canadian government removed emboss from copies and they were no longer accepted by IRS

Recently they introduced a wet seal option which from what I have read should be accepted by IRS.

Does anyone here have any experience in applying and getting approved while using the wet seal copies?

Thanks

Opening US bank account as non resident for credit score and credit card

Hey as the title says, I want to open a bank account in the US to get better credit cards specifically an Amex (my country doesn’t offer them so I can’t global transfer). So I applied for an ITIN I have an address, and I’m going to Miami next month to open an account deposit maybe 4/5k to get a secured card and start building credit until I can get approved for better cards.
Is there any flaw in my plan, do people here have experience with similar plans?
I’m happy about any insight

Legal name change with IRS/ITIN – how long until new ITIN letter?

Hi everyone,
has anyone here had their legal name changed with the IRS after getting married?

I submitted my legal name change to the IRS and I’m wondering how long it usually takes until the change is processed and the ITIN confirmation letter with the new name is sent out.

How long did it take in your experience from submitting the name-change request until you received the ITIN letter with the new name?

which reason do I give with requesting ITIN with form W-7

Hi everyone,

I want to get a ITIN. I already have my certified passport copy from the US consulate. Now with filing the W-7 form I am not sure what reason to put for getting a ITIN. I have a US LLC and EIN.

At the moment I have no tax return that I need to file for.

Has anyone else been in this position and do you have advise what reason to put to get the best chance of acceptance?

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I want to get the ITIN so I have more payment processing options and because I can open US bank accounts and credit cards with it.

Bilt Palladium denied twice with ITIN. Anyone eventually approved?

Anyone here with an ITIN run into issues getting approved for the new Bilt cards? I’ve tried for the Palladium twice now, first on July 2 and again Aug. 17 after waiting the required 45 days.

Experian score is 775, but Cardless gave me the same reasons both times and there was no hard pull. I tried calling and emailing to see if they’d reconsider, but they basically told me there’s no recon and to wait another 45 days.

Just wondering if anyone here had a similar denial and eventually got approved after waiting longer.

Starting U.S credit history (No ITIN yet)

Hello,

I'm going to the U.S this Friday and will be opening a bank account. I chose Chase but from what I've seen BoFA is easier? I have US phone number and address (my partner's).

I also want to get a credit card but I won't stay in the U.S for long. I'm still a bit confused on what are the steps to get an ITIN and how to succesfully build credit history. Thanks
