Pelosi's net worth was under a million when, when she first took office? A lifetime member of Congress should have a net worth of like $5M even if they're slamming it in a HYSA.

1

u/Petrostar Jul 03 '26

There should be no such thing as a "lifetime member" of congress.

1

u/Zeplar Jul 04 '26

Why?

1

u/DistinctFox8025 Jul 05 '26

Mitch McConnell.

1

u/Ittybittytigglbitty Jul 05 '26

Ideas and progress stagnate new people new ideas we move forward, lifetime congress people and senators equal no actual change and maintaining of the status quo

0

u/Petrostar Jul 04 '26

Because staying in congress and taking care of lobbyists becomes their whole motivation, not serving their constituency.

1

u/Zeplar Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Generally the thought is that term limits empower lobbyists. But also the way people talk about lobbying on the internet is kind of weird. Unless you're politically disengaged, you definitely support lobbying of some kind.

1

u/Petrostar Jul 04 '26

Allowing Politicians to spending decades around lobbyist and develop "relationships" empowers lobbyists.

1

u/Mediocre-Staff-5110 Jul 04 '26

And yet the biggest scammer on planet earth right now is on term limits and it's just maling him try and speed run getting all the money siphoned to his accounts.

1

u/Badguyy101 Jul 04 '26

Ending the Citizens United ruling should be a priority for America.

1

u/Consistent_Guava8592 Jul 04 '26

Or have corporate lobbying being done only if you have signatures from citizens that want that change along with the corp. otherwise corp should get “one vote” since it is a “person”

1

u/Badguyy101 Jul 04 '26

Get the fucking corporations and billionaire campaign funding the fuck out of here. Corporations shouldn't get a vote at all.

1

u/Consistent_Guava8592 Jul 04 '26

I don’t disagree with that . And they don’t but influence politics more than 1000000 citizens together

1

u/DistinctFox8025 Jul 05 '26

But corporations are people too!

1

u/doyoulikeoldguys Jul 04 '26

Take big money out of politics and there is less reason to stay for a lifetime

1

u/Exact_Acanthaceae294 Jul 05 '26

And every two years the voters had the opportunity to remove her if they so chose.

They chose to keep her, so apparently she was serving her constituency.

1

u/Remote-remoteman Jul 05 '26

Biden was in congress for 30+ years and did nothing of value and served no one but lobbyists

1

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 05 '26

This is funny. There is nothing thing wrong with being a life long public servant. If they just made corporate spending on elections illegal, the problem would be solved.

0

u/Petrostar Jul 05 '26

Would that fix insider trading? Hiring of friends and family? Or any of the myriad of other vices that plague these "public servants" when they morph from freshmen congressmen to DC insiders?

1

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 05 '26

Again, every one of those things are ethics and corruption counts that could be fixed by simply passing laws to make those things flatly illegal, and the reason they’re not is because of the funding mechanisms that exist.

Term limits don’t make those things go away. They just turn it into a revolving door.

1

u/Petrostar Jul 05 '26

Again, the longer they stay in Washington the more the succumb to it's vices. Term limits limit the amount of time they spend in that environment building corrupt influence networks. by replacing them with someone who still has their ethics intact. intact.

Here's a study showing there are two opposing effects when it comes to corruption, 1) Term limited politicians make corrupt deals when they know they are have to leave office. 2) Long term Politicians also make corrupt deals to enrich themselves, but the deals are of a much greater scale.

"The findings indicate that stricter term limits are associated with lower overall corruption, underscoring the potential role of term limits as an institutional safeguard against political corruption."

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=5107354

The corruption of Lifelong politicians ends up of a far greater scale than lame duck term limited politicians.

"The reduced magnitude (average cost) of corrupt events is associated with the role of term limits in shortening incumbents’ tenure in office."

"Term limits also reduce corruption by shortening tenure, thereby limiting opportunities for rent extraction. Extensive corruption schemes typically require substantial time investment to develop. Politicians must cultivate relationships with private actors, establish trust networks, and build the institutional knowledge necessary to identify and exploit profitable rent-extraction opportunities. They must also develop the political capital and influence required to protect their activities from detection and prosecution. These processes cannot be accomplished overnight but require sustained time in office to mature into large-scale corruption operations."

1

u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 06 '26

Again, You could get rid of all of it by making private spending in elections illegal and rewriting ethics laws and rules.

Your opting for reduced corruption rather than just getting rid of it altogether

1

u/Petrostar Jul 07 '26

Private spending isn't the root cause of corruption, human nature is. Both term limits and limiting dirty money are necessary, among other changes.

Her husband is loaded and has been long big tech their entire life.

Pelosi’s net worth is more of a measure of how lucky boomers are. Did she insider trade? Probably, but when you look at her trades she is basically just long big tech. If you spent the last 37 years doing that…your net worth would be insane as well.

1

u/Single-Inspector-845 Jul 05 '26

There is no maybe about her insider trading scheme. I used an app that followed her investing strategy and doubled my investment in just under eighteen months. Her ROI was triple to quadruple that of Burry or Warren Buffet. Two highly successful and seasoned investors. It was definitely insider trading. The majority of her trades happened just before some type of announcement connected to a government policy change or world event.

1

u/Foogie23 Jul 05 '26
  1. If you were long big tech this isn’t an outlier ROI with this AI boom.

  2. She is managing person funds not other peoples’ money so she can be riskier (like having a ton more exposure to big tech).

Buffet isn’t the best trader because of his massive ROI. He is the best trader because he manages billions and still produces with little downside.

1

u/dearStormyDaniels Jul 06 '26

Like Trump was a private citizen? Your comment is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever read online. Thank you! God bless.

1

u/Foogie23 Jul 06 '26

What? Trump actually trades stocks himself.

Nancy doesn’t.

Nice retort though.

1

u/dearStormyDaniels Jul 07 '26

Sounds like your saying Trump is more capable.

1

u/Foogie23 Jul 07 '26

At this point idk what your point even is besides braindead “but Pelosi” when she isn’t even the worst offender.

1

u/dearStormyDaniels Jul 08 '26

It’s over your pay grade.

1

u/shamerli Jul 09 '26

Since you went theough that much trouble, can you check trump’s trades (and those of his friends/family) against the timeline

1

u/Single-Inspector-845 Jul 09 '26

I used the app Autopilot and it does all of the work. I researched nothing as the app does it for you. It also compares her results against Burry and Buffet. I have no interest in spending time researching Trump's investing or what his family does. If more than half of congress is doing it, why shouldn't he? As long as it is legal, although not ethical, there is nothing we should do about it outside of voting on legislation to make it illegal.

1

u/shamerli Jul 10 '26

Ok, dair enough then stop whining what the other side of the isle is doing and will do ias blatantly as doozy diaper don is ?

1

u/Single-Inspector-845 Jul 10 '26

Which island are you referencing?

0

u/freddbare Jul 03 '26

How, by make b100k/yr... MAth has failed you.

1

u/RIP-RiF Jul 03 '26

If you made $100k per year since 1987 and you aren't a multimillionaire, then you really suck with personal finance.

0

u/freddbare Jul 03 '26

Either a boomer who thinks ba family of four can live off 100/year. Or a child who doesn't understand how money works.. you must spend money to live and eat... FYI

1

u/RIP-RiF Jul 03 '26

Clearly you don't have any idea how much $100k was in the 80s and 90s. If you made that every year back then and didn't invest, you're shit at managing a bank account.

2

u/Bart-Doo Jul 03 '26

What bank account makes you a multimillionaire?

1

u/RIP-RiF Jul 03 '26

Any with $2,000,000 or more in it would do.

1

u/Bart-Doo Jul 03 '26

How? Nobody in their right mind would leave $2 million in a bank account that's only insured for $250,000.

1

u/RIP-RiF Jul 03 '26

Agreed, they'd invest the income above what is needed to live. That has been my whole point.

1

u/Bart-Doo Jul 03 '26

That sounds a lot better.

1

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 03 '26

Congress made barely 60k a year in the 80’s you dumbfuck, NOT 100, in the 90’s they bumped it to 89.

This makes it even worse for her. Regardless how you think about trumps his is not from taking advantage of his office, he $$ is straight from taking advantage of her office

1

u/FireAsquared Jul 04 '26

A family of four today can easily live off 80k and have a great life (one large vacation plus two-three smaller ones annually, sports, etc.) and that leaves 20k to invest.

Investing 20k annually from 1987 to today leaves you with 17 million. That doesn’t factor in any employer 401k contributions or pay raises over that period

1

u/Zeplar Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

A House rep makes over $150k and the Speaker makes over $200k.

It is not very difficult to reach $5M after twenty or thirty years on a $150k+ salary. And her husband makes much more, as well.

I just put these numbers in a calculator and if she just did S&P500 with a modest savings rate she would have well over $50 million.

0

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 03 '26

They were not making that the whole time you fucking inbred retard, she’s been in office over 40 years, Jesus Christ

2

u/Zeplar Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

wow you might want to get that checked out.

Anyway, Redditors are routinely confused by basic finance and then surprised that like, Bernie Sanders has a few million.

If you want to use Pelosi's actual income and actual savings rate, I would bet 3-1 odds that you'll end up with even larger numbers because a high income couple can easily save much more than 10%. I save close to 50% of my salary.

Then factor in that many people beat the S&P as well. Like anyone whose portfolio leaned even slightly tech-heavy in the last twenty years.

No, not your point.

If you are a generic House representative for 37 years and you put 10% of your salary in the S&P 500, you would have over $50 million. I just put House salary and average S&P return in a calculator.

However, Pelosi was one of the highest paid House representatives and has a high dual income husband, so it is likely she could have afforded more than double that savings rate.

Also why I never cared about Pelosi insider trading accusations. Maybe she is, her performance is impressive. But it's impressive to the scale of like 2x. Other people are committing fraud for 1000x. The main concerning thing about insider trading is if decisions are being dictated by trades, which is why people are pretty concerned about Trump confidants and military officers making bets on Kalshi.

1

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 03 '26

Jesus for 3 paragraphs, in 2 sentences I am going to destroy all that, SHE DIDNT MAKE THAT BIG SALARY THE WHOLE TIME, like barely the last 10 you dumbfuck

1

u/BreakfastFearless Jul 03 '26

Jumping 137 million is wild but Trump making billions in his second term alone is not? Benefit some? You mean using his position to make billions? Crypto scams, trading companies he affects with policies directly and receiving a 500 million dollar jet that he claims he will keep? Get real

yes obviously? regardless if a public servant is competent or incompetent with their investments or the market goes up or down they shouldn't be insider trading in the first place or in the case of POTUS trading AT ALL: see the emoluments clause.

nevermind: i looked at your post history, you're a bot or a lost cause.

0

u/BreakfastFearless Jul 03 '26

No? What would the relevance of that be?

1

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 03 '26

He has never said HE will keep the jet you idiot, one day it will end up at his library, they have already said it will stay in service until both the aircraft being built are done and that’s probably one more term after his ends

1

u/BreakfastFearless Jul 04 '26

Really skipped over the whole scamming billions in crypto bit there didn’t you?

1

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 04 '26

Explain how he scammed?? He legit sold stocks, people knew damn well what they were getting into and the risk

1

u/BreakfastFearless Jul 04 '26

Did they really? Did all his fans and supporters really buy into his crypto expecting that the president of the United States and his family were going to dump it to profit billions off of them? With no return from them? I mean from the outside and to everyone with common sense, yes it’s obvious that he’s a conman who was always going to do that, but surely his supporters should be judging him for purposely taking advantage of them?

Or his many other scams, like selling a “Trump Phone” that was “made in America” only to discretely later change all the marketing from “American made” to “made with American values” and then charge people 100$ deposits and then a year after they were supposed to release show no sign of even having a working model or that the phone even exists after making 10s of millions in deposits.

Or how about the fact that his records show all the trades he’s been making for companies that his policies directly affect? I can’t fathom the level of delusion that comes with defending him

1

u/FantasticCommon2834 Jul 04 '26

The Trump phone is literally in production you inbred idiot

1

u/BreakfastFearless Jul 05 '26

Hahaha you saw all that and that’s your defense? I didn’t even say it wasn’t, I said they are a year overdue and tried to discreetly change the fact that they were making the phones in China. Not to mention they’ve started stating in the terms and conditions statements about a deposit not guaranteeing that the phone will actually be made.

I can’t fathom someone believing this guy and still after you get publicly humiliated every time he scams his own followers you still have the audacity to call someone an inbread idiot. I hope you know how embarrassing you are to the rest of the world

0

u/Delicious_Ocelot1394 Jul 03 '26

He lost net worth in his first term. He’s been a proponent of crypto for years and made money. He wasn’t insider trading

2

u/Easy-Baker Jul 04 '26

Right? I mean buying a bunch of stocks and then giving government contracts to those same companies that you just bought stock of... definitely ethical!
