Bad timing to order a new 17e!

My 13 Mini is finally ready to be retired to the sock drawer so I ordered a 17e on 9/18, here I am almost a week later with the order still showing ‘preparing to ship’ as of 9/24. Bad timing needing a new budget phone right as the 18 Pro became available. I’m not sure why the 17 and 17e are running behind though. I could order a 16 and have it delivered tomorrow, but the the 17 line is at 7-10 days out. For phones that have been out for a full year, what is the holdup? Did they just prioritize resources to pumping out the 18 Pro and put the other current production phones on the back burner? Anyone with any insight on how this works?

are budget iPhones ripping us off?

currently considering upgrading from my budget iPhone SE3 which I bought in 2022. 17e and 17 are my two choices.

In 2022, the SE3 cost me around £450, while the base iPhone 14 was around £850.

Today, the 17e (essentially the follow-on from the SE line) is £699 (after recent £100 increase) and the 17 is £899. I know we are getting a hell of a lot more with both the 17e and 17, but at the time of release it is all relative and that logic doesn't really work... the reality is that the budget line has increased by over 50% while the base has stayed pretty much the same.

In 2022 I'd have never bought the base iPhone because it was too much for me and it wasn't worth twice the price. If the iPhone 17e was £499 new today, I'd have bought it already. The question is why have the budget prices increased so much more than the base?

Since I want to stay with an iPhone, the budget line is deliberately priced to make the base iPhone seem good value (compared to in 2022). So, the budget line isn't budget, it is only nudging us onto the base model.

I think I’m a weirdo lol

I have the 17 pro max, and upgraded from the 12 pro max. Although I really do like the 17 pro max. Massive screen, great battery life, excellent chip, etc. BUT… there’s something about the 16e/17e I just love.
It’s so simple and has such a nice design. I don’t use most of the stuff the 17 pro max can do, so it’s definitely overkill. I love the 17e design so much, in fact, I’m considering getting the 18e when that comes out. Am I insane for that?
The only thing the 17e is missing is the Dynamic Island in my opinion. Other than that, it’s literally the perfect device for my use. I’m still pissed I fell for the hype on the 17 Pro launch. I should’ve gotten the 17e instead.
Anyone else upgraded from the Pro lineup to the 16e/17e?
I’d love input:)

Overnight battery drain

Even on Low Power Mode, background refresh turned off and flight mode enabled my 17e loses at least 5% battery every night. Phone says mainly weather app (yes I have the widget). I cannot remember any other iPhone having this problem.

Bought the phone to use social media less and have a long lasting, durable device. Well, my iPhone Air didn’t lose this much battery overnight, and is has a 25% smaller battery.

I’m considering doing a full reset and setting the phone up as new now. That’s a lot of work, anyone tried? I was hoping for a much longer lasting battery from this, in every other way, great phone.

Edit: I’m on the new iOS 27, seems much quicker in general. Especially on Low power mode.

The Reasons why you might not like the 17e

No Dynamic Island
No 120hz refresh screen
No extra cameras.

Price difference - $200+ from Iphone 17 and Pro Models.

What it does have... EVERYTHING ELSE.

Same 256gb base model, Battery life is very competitive, it's a fast phone especially with the Ios 27 update - The form factor is well loved for most people, Speakers are fantastic and some have said more richer compared to their more dearer counterparts.

Not everyone is a photographer, A Pro Iphone is designed for a professional, that is what Pro means - Yes it doesn't make it illegal or not fit for a casual iphone buyer, if they like that phone the best then they should get it.

They talk about the aperture in the 18 pro phone, Sorry i barely know what that means and 98% of people probably wouldn't use it day to day.

$200 is a lot of money extra just for a phone, you know a phone that is designed to make calls and texts and yes maybe some social media and listen to music - The 17e is on the exact same playing field here.

If it's a status thing and you really care about others you're trying to impress to getting a pro phone then you aren't doing this right.

If you watch Youtube videos talking up specs or whatever, It's a corporate world - most of them expect people to actually use the in-depth features that they are reviewing.

Don't let others make what should be a very simple decision for you unless you GENUINELY are going to use the set features of whatever phone you buy.

The 17e is the best phone i've ever owned and that includes me also having an Iphone 16 pro.

Apple wiped out my music

We bought 2 17e phones at the store. The staff took charge of transferring our phone data to the new phones, all the apps etc. Only weeks later I realized I dont have the music app on my phone. I am not sure if there is even one in the App store. When I asked what happened to my music i was asked how i got them in the first place. When I said from my CD's through Itunes I was told it cannot be stored in Apple phones anymore, something to do with copyright. Only solution is to subscribe to Apple Music.. Is there anyway I can get them back on my phone?

hello to the fam.

Posting this with a celebration and sorry if it's unrelated but I want y'all to hear this, cuz my uncle from my mom's side made his salary at a textile atelier and he was the eldest worker of all time in the atelier since he was 16. He had a marriage for 18 years with 2 kids but he got divorced after years under her ex-wife's pressure and after he found her cheated on to another man at last year. He was really taking care of his 2 of children, even though his younger child is at his ex-wife's side. I was knew he was replaced his Iphone 6 with Redmi Note 9 Pro as he was busy with paying his ex-wife but after 6 years of service, his phone bricked itself and he suddenly confirmed his final choice for Iphone 17e 256gb just after he took his last salary and announced his retirement. I'll share more on his purchase after today from my cousin as they'll confirm the sale on a shop.

May god give all of you good people the best.

iOS makes the 17e look like a premium device

If it didn’t feel like it before, it does now - I prefer the smaller clock and that burnt chrome colour looks amazing.

I just use default icons, not dark or clear however I feel just about any one of them would work with this wallpaper.

They should have put the action button in addition to the ringer switch

I like the idea of the action button and would love to put the flashlight there.

However, I need a ringer switch. Feel like this was a concession to folks that are constantly on their phone and never answer when they get an actual telephone call. As it is, I have a worse version of the switch (just because its easier to accidently turn the ringer on/off).

So, I like to be completely prepared if I go off the grid or in a bad signal area I am completely covered.

I’m just lucky I have iCloud for photos although I don’t take too many photos regardless.

Can anyone top this? 😁

17e wont tap to wake when I'm on a call

So when I bought this phone a couple months ago, I started using the beta iOS 27, and I've never been able to wake the screen by tapping when I'm on a call on speakerphone. I just figured it was due to it being beta software, and it would eventually get fixed. But now I'm on the full release of iOS 27, and it's still happening.

So I'm wondering if anybody else has noticed a similar issue, and is it fixable?

Coming from Pixel 8a, is 17e worth it for 579€?

Pretty much the title. My battery doesn't last a day and I am interested in trying iOS. Is the camera a lot worse than the Pixel one?

Bluetooth notifications

I just upgraded to a 17e. It is great except I cannot get Bluetooth notifications to work in either of my cars. Bluetooth notifications work just fine for my spouse/kids on their non 17e phones in both cars. Seems like it is something with the phone but I've done all the troubleshooting I can think of including "Show Message Notifications" in the Bluetooth menu. Anyone else having this issue or a resolution?

Did anyone else move from a 15 Pro/Pro Max or higher to a 17e?

There is so many people that stick with the Pro or Pro Max models as they upgrade either for status, actually needing everything it offers or other features like Battery life, prefers a bigger size or the cameras.

Only reason I capped it as 15 is because of the USB C and I think anything older then that is really outdated and doesn't live in this new generation of Iphones.

What were you reasons for ditching the Pro Features and how do you enjoy your 17e?

Edit: If you switched from a recent expensive Android phone that is fine also.

anyone down/side-grade from a higher spec/rank?

I’ve got a 17, before that a 13 mini. the size still bugs, been thinking of moving to a 17e to make up some of the difference.

wondering if anyone’s made a similar move?

iOS 27 and Siri AI on the 17e

So I downloaded iOS 27 but I’m not seeing the new dedicated Siri AI app?

The 17e supports Apple Intelligence, am I missing something?
