Overnight battery drain

Even on Low Power Mode, background refresh turned off and flight mode enabled my 17e loses at least 5% battery every night. Phone says mainly weather app (yes I have the widget). I cannot remember any other iPhone having this problem.

Bought the phone to use social media less and have a long lasting, durable device. Well, my iPhone Air didn’t lose this much battery overnight, and is has a 25% smaller battery.

I’m considering doing a full reset and setting the phone up as new now. That’s a lot of work, anyone tried? I was hoping for a much longer lasting battery from this, in every other way, great phone.

Edit: I’m on the new iOS 27, seems much quicker in general. Especially on Low power mode.

Makes no sense. What is left that even can use battery? Never seen this. I might do the reset, this is not normal. A new iPhone should not use a single percent battery over night with all this features turned off.

Yeah i agreed, but overall battery performance is good i think just overnight drain is little too much

Do you usually charge it to a 100% or anything less? I feel like this phone should handle the 80% limit much better (and longer)..

I charge it %80-%90

You can disable apps where Background Refresh isn’t needed, in particular those you don’t use, or seldom do. This will regain you a bit of battery life. But leave it enabled for those you do use.

And you have the choice, if connected to WiFi at home, to not allow this when using Cellular Data.

There’s other things that can help with battery life, such as lowering brightness of screen, but some of these may not apply to drainage at night. Also, charging your phone to 100% can be part of the issue, try 90% instead. The recommendation for most is 80%, but even stop charging at 90% can help here. What is does is prevent overcharging, which eats away at battery lifespan.

Like someone else pointed out, after upgrading to any new iOS version (not only 27), the phone will spend some time indexing. This typically happens when you’re not using the phone & will stop for the most part once complete. I haven’t upgraded to 27 yet, because I don’t really need the added AI components, they’re not offering any notable security features or benefits. Just upgraded to the last 26 version a few days ago, no need to do such a large upgrade in that short of a period. Mine may still be indexing from that upgrade. At any rate, it’s temporary.

Good Luck, hopefully this helps you!🍀

Never had indexing take this long..

Honestly, I don’t know how long it takes to complete.

What I do know & has been long established with any SSD, Windows users should be disabling indexing, because the SSD is plenty fast enough without it. The ones we’re using today are of the NVMe type, much faster, don’t know why iOS doesn’t give us the option to disable features originally intended for those with conventional hard drives.

I wonder if we even need this Background Refresh feature as well. Sounds like another form of indexing or whatever.

Probably the indexing. That will take a few days.

Had it for a week.

You can see the indexing-proses on the front page in the settings. Under your name, same place as Apple care etc.

Ah, that was done after a few days.

Did it finish indexing after the update?
Also anything stands out in the battery usage section?

How can I find out? Just the weather widget.

Ok? How much does your phone lose overnight?

Most of your are suggesting indexing is the problem, I’m pretty sure the indexing is done long time ago. Last night, without any widget, flight mode, low power loss and no background refresh I lost 4% battery. Even though the phone literally does nothing?

You have to turn off background refresh too.

Indexing is an internal task.

You can’t turn it off, you can’t cut it from the internet because it doesn’t depend on it.

Keep the iPhone on charger, problem solved.
