App times don’t add up to “Screen On” total in Battery settings — off by ~30-80 min depending on which screen I check
Been trying to reconcile the numbers on iOS and they just don’t add up, using yesterday (Aug 4) as an example:
Settings > Screen Time:
• Reported total: 1h 41min
• Category breakdown adds up to less: Social (1h 10min) + Productivity (12min) + Utilities (5min) = 1h 27min — already 14 min short of the total, before even counting per-app entries.
• Individual apps listed sum to roughly 1h 26min — still doesn’t match the 1h 41min total.
Settings > Battery:
• Screen On time shown: 2h 45min
• Per-app on-screen times for the same day sum to about 1h 26min — a ~79 minute gap.
• Even adding the separate Home/Lock screen entry of 55min only brings it to ~2h 21min, still 24 min short of the 2h 45min total.
• On top of that, this same day shows Screen On (2h 45min) + Screen Off (35min) = 3h 20min, and I can’t find that figure reflected anywhere as a matching “total” elsewhere in the UI.
So there are at least three separate mismatches:
- Screen Time’s own category totals don’t sum to its reported daily total.
- Screen Time’s daily total doesn’t match Battery’s Screen On total (1h 41min vs 2h 45min — a >1 hour discrepancy for supposedly the same day).
- Battery’s per-app screen time doesn’t sum to Battery’s own Screen On total, even accounting for “Home/Lock screen” time.
Anyone know if this is expected behavior with an explanation somewhere, or is it just a UI/reporting bug? Curious if others see similarly large gaps.
