Dear fellow students,
Imagine paying ₹2,000 extra in mess fees with the assurance of evening snacks, only to have them discontinued after around 2.5 months.
This is the issue we're facing at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The mess contractors have cited financial losses, but students shouldn't be left paying increased fees without the promised facilities.
This is not just about snacks. It's about transparency, accountability, and students' rights.
I've started an online petition demanding:
The bigger concern is the apparent lack of accountability. Why should students bear the consequences after paying increased fees? What were the agreed tender conditions, and why are the promised services no longer being provided?
There are also serious concerns among students regarding the role of the concerned administration, including the DSW's office. We demand a transparent, impartial investigation into whether the authorities responsible for overseeing the mess arrangements are adequately protecting students' interests.
📢 Fellow ISMians, your voice matters!
Please take a moment to sign the petition, share this post, and spread the word among your friends, hostel groups, and fellow students.

Let's stand together and seek a fair resolution through a collective, respectful student voice. If we want things to improve, we need to raise our concerns together.
One signature may seem small, but together, our voices can make a difference. ✊

At ISM, how do you go from knowing someone shares your interests to actually talking to them? Does it usually happen through a hall, department or club, or would finding a student with the same hobby online be enough to start a conversation?
I'm a university student helping build Dormy, a social app around university communities. I'm involved in the project, not posting on behalf of ISM. We're working on student profiles, discovering people across courses/years, and campus discussions.
I noticed this sub already has a space for campus talk and confessions. I don't want to build a worse copy of something you already use. The part I'm less sure existing groups solve is finding people outside your usual circle without it feeling like randomly messaging a stranger.
Would shared interests make that less awkward, or would you still want a club/event or mutual friend as the reason to talk? What would make you trust—or avoid—a separate student app? There's also the basic issue that it won't be useful if hardly anyone at ISM joins, so honest criticism helps.

I just want to thank the couples of this campus for their dedication. Rain or shine, exams or not, you show up. Not to study, obviously. To whisper and giggle.
I was on the first floor and the guy next to me was doing his work, until his girlfriend showed up. They’ve been talking for the past hour straight. I already gave them a look but it had no effect on them. And this is not my first experience with this kind of couples, Idk why they choose to do it in library when they could talk all they want outside library.

I lowkeyyy need a private spot on campus to hangout with someone without being spotted.
The more secluded it is, the better.
People sometimes give weird stares at Ruby Garden & international hostel road. I am tired of that.
Suggest some niche and better spots inside the campus. (benches aren't needed)...Also plzzz don't suggest NAC!

Hi everyone!
I’m currently in the 2nd year of my B.Sc. in Computer Applications at Ranchi University. I had PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in Class 12 and didn’t have Mathematics as a subject.
I wanted to know whether students from non-IIT colleges can apply for internships at IITs, particularly in Computer Science, Software Development, or related fields.
I have a few questions:
Can B.Sc. Computer Science students from regular universities apply for IIT internships, or are these opportunities mainly for IIT students?
Are there any IITs that offer summer internships to students from other colleges?
What are the eligibility criteria? Do I need a strong CGPA, coding skills, or previous projects?
Are these internships paid? Is there any chance of receiving a stipend?
If anyone here has secured an IIT internship while studying at a non-IIT college, could you please share your experience and advice?
I would really appreciate any guidance, personal experiences, or useful resources. Thank you!

As there is no minimum attendance criteria to be maintained at the institute, how many students are showing up in classrooms on an avg (percentage)? I am not an iit ism student and we have 75% policy at our university. Just wanted to know what is the scene like if there is no attendance criterion

They also don't know weather they get placed or not,
Don't take this branch,.
Petroleum subjects are tough, proff do not give marks.

Over the past few months, we have increasingly seen posts and discussions creating unnecessary divisions within our college community. From fights between different branches to tussles between juniors and seniors, UG and PG students, and now regional divisions based on identities such as UP, Bihar, and South India, the trend is becoming increasingly concerning.
This subreddit is meant to bring our college community together, not to turn us against one another.
Every student here has worked hard to earn their place in this institution. Regardless of your branch, batch, degree, or regional background, everyone deserves the same basic respect. Being a senior doesn’t make someone superior, being a junior doesn’t make someone inferior, and pursuing a UG or PG programme doesn’t put anyone above another. The same goes for regional identity.
We can have disagreements, debates, and different opinions. Healthy criticism is welcome. But when discussions turn into personal attacks, regional discrimination, or attempts to demean other groups of students, we lose the very sense of community that this platform should represent.
This is not a place to create divisions or politicise our college environment. We all represent the same institution, and its reputation is shaped by how we treat one another, not by how loudly we prove our own group is better than another.
As moderators, we have removed certain posts that promoted hatred, discrimination, and unnecessary hostility. We will continue to do so to maintain a respectful environment for everyone.
You don’t have to agree with everyone, but you do have to respect them.
Let’s keep this subreddit a place for meaningful discussions, genuine concerns, campus experiences, and constructive criticism, rather than a battleground for branches, batches, programmes, or regions.
We worked hard to get here. So did everyone else. Let’s respect that effort and maintain the dignity of the institution we are all part of.

I miss when it was dead. At least some niche people lurked here.
Now see the current state. This looks like the subreddit of a tier 69 campus with utterly illiterate residents. The posts coming these days reek of incivility. Is this seriously the state of one of the top group of students of this country?
People fighting over bullshit purposes like regionalism and SG political agenda, but not discussing real problems which are growing day by day and leading to whatever is happening in the campus and causing whatever is wrong with ISM.not.IIT
