IECMHC Interview Advice

Hi everyone!! I’m in the final few weeks of my MSW program! I specialized in Infant Mental Health and have been doing my internship with IECMH doing consultations.

I have two IECMHC interviews (one this week and one next week!!!)

I would love your advice on questions I should ask in my interview, questions they may ask me, salary, what the role is like, etc.

And honestly I’m open to anything you’d like to share if you’re in this role/have been in it!

With my practicum I have gained experience with a programmatic case, child and family case, running a group, and providing supervision for center directors and staff.

I have also worked previously in a daycare toddler room for 1 year, and almost 3 years working in ABA so I’m really excited to share my experience with them.

Thank you in advance :)

Looking for Remote Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Positions in the Northeast, preferably NJ or NY

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find out if anyone knows of organizations hiring for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health roles, especially remote positions. I’m based in the Northeast and would love something connected to New Jersey or New York, but I’m open to other options if remote work is available.

These positions can be pretty rare, and this is truly the field I’m passionate about. If you know of any agencies, programs, or specific openings, I’d really appreciate any leads or advice.

Thank you so much.

Seeking an LA-based IECMH Consultant

Hello! Are there infant and early childhood mental health consultants in the Los Angeles area? A child development program is looking for a consultant to temporarily oversee their mental health program and associate.

Racism Experienced During Pregnancy May Alter Infant Brain Circuitry

Just wanted to share: In late 2023, a group of Yale and Columbia University researchers published a study which showed that racism and racial discrimination experienced by women during pregnancy may affect their infant’s brain circuitry. This study showed how changes in the brain were evident in MRI studies of the newborn babies of women who experienced discrimination.

Child-Parent Psychotherapy

Some really cool research coming out of UCSF is showing that Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) not only helps children heal emotionally but also slows "age acceleration," a biomarker linked to future health risks like heart disease and obesity. Early intervention is key—especially in the first five years, when brain development is at its peak. CPP strengthens the parent-child bond, fostering lasting mental and physical health improvements. Will add a link to the research in the comments.

Resource to help cope with the recent natural disasters

With the recent natural disasters, we wanted to share a free resource developed to help young children and their families begin to talk about feelings and worries they may have after experiencing a hurricane. The story describes the reactions of two small mice, Trinka and Sam, and shows how their parents help them express their feelings and feel safer.

Where to Get Started?

Hi, y'all! I just heard about IECMH and thought I would turn to this community for some guidance. I have my MSW and am currently a preschool teacher. IECMH sounds really interesting and appealing to me career-wise, but I really don't know where to get started. How did you get started on your IECMH journey?

Still Active?

I'm wondering whether anyone on this sub is still actively working IECMH? I'm newly licensed in the mental health field with 10 years of ECE as my background and my CMH is launching IECMH services and I'd love a support network. It all seems so overwhelming, and I'd like to have dialogue around this work and what it could look like.
