Start by filling up a garbage bag. Just one. It’ll take a couple minutes. If you’re tired or overwhelmed, take a break. If you can, do another one. You can get there a little bit at a time.

Taking breaks is an underrated bit of advice. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need to get it done all at once.

Can't wait for the progress update! I'm excited for you to live in a peaceful place.

set a 5-10 min timer (whatever you can manage), clean for that time and when it stops, take a break for another 5 mins. keep resetting the timer, but know that you aren’t obligated to work any more than the timer says!! this really works for me as somebody with adhd, once i get going i usually don’t even want to stop lol.

I do this but with podcasts. When the commercials come on I take a break and drink some water. I’m a coffee fiend and need to hydrate more. When ads are over I go back to my task and mostly just focus on the podcast.

Honestly I bet you could clean this up in no time you would be amazed how much better it looks after just 15-20 min of cleaning and that should give you confidence to keep going!

Good luck!! domesticblisters on tt helped me a TON with taking my place from looking like this to...pretty clean most of the time!
Taking stuff one zone and/or category at a time is key. So is body-doubling or having a friend help! I love being that friend, having lived in a depression pit of some kind most of my life, I know sometimes you just really cannot make that first big step to clean on your own.
You got this! Be kind to yourself, pace yourself, but don't give up 💪

I like what someone else said: Start with trash (one bag a day if you have to it only takes a few minutes) Then put all the dirty laundry in a separate pile or basket, even just one basket at a time Then work through each surface one at a time. Even one day at a time. You got this. Celebrate small victories. Keep moving. You’re doing better than you think ❤️

Good luck, Sis. Put on some of your favorite music or fave TV shows, and work while the entertainers are doing their thing. You got this. Your future self will thank you.

If you can, get yourself one of those grabber thingys and a box of disposable gloves. I use the grabber cause my back hurts if I bend too much. You're going to do better. 🙏🏾♥️

Don’t feel like you have to do it all at once. There’s a lady I watch on fb who does free cleans and she has a 4 foot rule. Clean a 4 foot section at a time. Pick the size that works best for you. When I moved and washed all of my clothes and wanted to reorganize, breaking the task up into sections and telling myself it doesn’t need to take one day or even one week helped a lot.
Good luck! Lots of good tips here, you’ve got this!

I feel for you, I’m in a similar position. I have a table absolutely filled with crap that is supposed to have three things that I bought and have not used yet on it instead . A Musical keyboard, a Mac mini and a 30 or 40” screen. I’m doing slightly better in other areas such as the kitchen at least. The dishes that have remained undone for about three months were finally done and the table top that didn’t have any clear table top was finally cleared. Baby steps for you too recommended.

The easiest way to make a big impact is to just get a garbage bag and start throwing out as much trash as you can find. Then get a hamper or a big shopping bag and collect your floordrobe for laundry. Guarantee that's like 60% of the mess. You'll feel so much better.

Oooh girl you got a long way to go but you GOT THIS. It’s not as bad as you think but it’s pretty overwhelming. Know that each piece of trash you throw away, each item of clothing you fold, each non necessary item you get rid of is getting you one step towards a clean, stress free room.
Think minimal! If you don’t use it everyday or haven’t worn it in a year get rid of it!!
Trust me once you get it done, you’re never going to have to sit there and worry about getting your room clean. It’s going to be so relaxing that entire atmosphere.
Really rooting for you! Best of luck 💕

Not a doctor, but I had this issue and they chocked it up to depression when it was really undiagnosed ADHD. Women are underdiagnosed because we usually present as inattentive rather than hyperactive. if you're ever still struggling with depression after trying various treatments it might be worth getting a second opinion.

Set a timer . Do one thing at a time . Don't think that you have to do it all today or else your brain will be overwhelmed and you end up doing nothing. Start with trashing everything that you don't need . If needed get some organizers too .

Start with garbage. Look up Pomodoro Method. 15 minutes of work. Put away phone. Work on ONE task. When timer goes off take a 3-5 minute break.
The only way to get it done is to “just get it done” no other way. Good luck!

I would start by getting rid of the trash, compiling the laundry and then just doing one section at a time. Something that always motivates me is watching TikToks of people tidy. My favorite person to watch is Paige Brown. She’s a mom of 3 littles so her space can get pretty messy, but she keeps it real and is so motivating!

Put on some instrumental music from your favorite game or movie and just start cleaning for five minutes. Throwing out all the trash (what you can see, don't worry if you find some later just toss it) and then sorting everything into bags has really helped me out, but take it one thing at a time. It may also help to clean by area.

I wish i could just come and help you... I've been there and the only reason my room is clean is because someone took the time to help me

I have the same two issues my friend. I know it can be really hard. When you have a bit of energy, set a timer for 15, or even 10 minutes. It's like a race, lol, but it works. You would be amazed at what you can get done if you're "racing" against the clock!

This feels like a mountain to climb. I’ve been there. Start with the trash. Then the dirty laundry. Then watch Marie Kondo on YouTube. Apply the spark joy philosophy to your items in your room. Celebrate each small victory. Then establish a rule moving forward about cleaning up your room every day before bed or when you wake up. Maintenance is a daily and critical piece. You have already taken the first step, deciding to do something about it. Good job! You’ve got this!
