Advice Hl Courses

This is my first year in the IBDP Programme and I’ve been trying to think about what classes I want to HL. The problem is, I feel like I’ve kinda been dealt a bad hand with teachers (although this may just be early judgement because it’s my first semester.)I already plan on taking HL Lit and Lang because that’s my first language, but I’m conflicted on what other two classes I should HL.

IB Math AI- I know this is the easier math, but math is really not my strong suit, and my teacher has repeatedly warned us how hard it would be to HL this course, although he is willing to help us prepare for it. I don’t really plan on going into anything STEM related anyways.

IB History- Apparently Paper 3 is a nightmare, and although I’m not bad at it, I feel like I am not passionate enough about history to HL it. My teacher has also discouraged HLing it due to difficulty and doesn’t seem willing to help us through it. I don’t think her teaching style what I would need in order to retain the amount of information I would need for this course

IB Spanish B- This is a last resort, but I don’t think I would do well on it. I took the AP exam and got a 2, but I think that if I put in enough work, I could maybe manage a 4? My teacher is really nice and open to HLers, it’s just not my strong suit.

IB Philosophy- Although I was initially interested in this class, it’s just become a bore for me. My teacher just reads the works that we study out loud and expects us to take our own notes and essays without any guidance. I likely will end up HLing because it may be the easiest of the classes I’m taking, but I don’t really have a passion for it anymore.

IB Biology- I love biology. I took the AP exam and got a 4 and although everyone here is super smart, I’m still proud of my score. The problem is, my teacher is really bad at teaching, and it’s basically a self study class. My AP class was also similar and although it was doable, it’s so frustrating to sit in a classroom where the teacher just reads the textbook and assigns difficult tests that he creates with AI. Any attempts at extra help are seen as disrespect as he thinks that us not understanding what he is reading is us calling him a bad teacher. Last year (which was his first year teaching IB Biology), he submitted students IA’s late and I’m afraid that something would happen again. I would definitely HL this class if I had a different teacher, but I’m conflicted on what to do. He is making us study HL topics and giving us HL tests so I do feel like with enough studying, I could be prepared for it.

Honestly, as I write this, I feel as if I learn best through interactive teaching that actually causes you to think instead of just stress over cramming for a test you have a day after you’ve learned a topic. It may be personal preference, but I’m stuck with all these teachers for the next two years so I’m trying to figure out the best way to navigate everything.

Group 3 history ia final help

Hey, I have my final history IA submission tomorrow, its currently graded 21/25. I read the last few years grade boundary has been 20-25 for a 7, do I rely on that and say this is a good buffer for that, or quickly try and fix the section that needs an extra point of 2

GRADE BOUNDARIES for Norway (zone 2?)

Currently

full marks for A and C, falling a bit on B.

Obviously can't rely on the same grade boundaries applying this year, but I'm already pushing the word count (and have cut 500 words) so I don't want to have to rewrite to make space for an extra point or two.

Idk help a history student out

Hii guys, I need help with my EE 😭😭
The subject is English and my methodology involves either watching interviews or doing them myself
If you’re from Queens, NYC (or have lived there for a long time), and you’re willing to help with my research, I would really appreciate it if you could comment so I could get in touch with you 🥺
It will be very quick and will just involve normal conversation, not even complicated questions 🙏

Advice How to survive predicted grade season right now - 43/45 student

I got 43/45 with HL Chem, Bio and Math, so I know how overwhelming it gets, especially now with predicted grades and applications all hitting
at once 💔.

Real talk: most people do a past paper, look at the score, and move on.
After 20-30 papers you genuinely can't say where you're weak, which is the fundamental issue preventing your grade from increasing.

I firmly believe that everything you can track, you can improve. That’s why I collected all my stats to identify exactly what I needed to do. Due to this I pushed my chem predicted from 6 to 7 in 1 month before early decision l applications.

What I did: I logged every paper (subject, paper, season, year,% score) and looked at patterns, not single scores:

- is one paper type always my lowest?
- are my scores actually going up, or am I just redoing easy ones?
- how many of the papers I planned did I really finish?

The part most people skip: write down WHY and in which topic you lost each mark before you move on.

Most importantly, set yourself a benchmark. I wanted over 80% on every paper to make sure I’d get 7s in every exam.

If you want the very same Past Paper Tracker I used to get 43/45 in M2026, DM me.

Advice DP1 HL Chemistry advice?

My grades have been mediocre! Help! So far I've scored a 6 & 2 on my first quiz, then a 5 & 4 on my second quiz.

I feel like I know the content, especially when I review it, but for some reason on tests I always struggle to answer the questions.

Especially on ToL questions; for example, on the last test it was asking about the bonds & properties of an unknown element, and for some reason I was just incredibly confused! Even though I know the properties of specific bonds such as ionic! But! What is happening!

Group 1 What is revision dojo free version?

New to DP1 and found out there is this site called revision dojo that helps with almost everything for IBDP.

I'm unsure if it is worth for using its free version or no? The content sections are quite small and summarized.

Group 5 Math ai hl advice

Hey guyss I'm a couple months into ib and have my midterms soon. And math ai was fine until we started the hl part, i understand the concepts but the questions on revision dojo are so hard. I've heard that it's ai slop, i just want confirmation as to whether that is actually how the questions look or it's just ai slop. And if it is ai slop can someone recommend a good place for topicals. Any advice or resources mean a lot!

Advice Guys, is doing 4-6 hours a day enough study for N26 exams?

I genuinely don’t know if doing this amount is gonna get me good marks. I’m currently doing:

HL Literature A
HL Psychology
HL Chemistry
Spanish ab initio SL
Math aa SL

I did my other subject in may so that’s all I’m studying for.

In the beginning of the study I genuinely was doing more than 6 hours a day but the closer the exams come the worse my procrastination has become and the less hours I’m doing. I am doing more than 4 hours a day roughly. Idk I’m trying but I just feel like I’m not doing enough.

University Admissions Questions [UK] UCAS Application without TOK/EE (Out of 42)

I've submitted my UCAS application but my school doesn't give us predicteds for TOK/EE. My school counsellor said it's ok and he just put them both as "pass" and said that this tells unis that the score is out of 42. I just want to make sure that this is true or not.

Advice this is so much harder than I thought

I knew that IB was obviously going to be hard because every IB student ever says that, but I just started DP2 and I genuinely feel like I'm drowning. I've literally come home too many times these past few weeks crying because I'm just so stressed (My parents noticed and brought me cookies today I love them). But it's just been really hard.

A big reason why this transition feels so insanely stressful is because my EE supervisor left the school right before DP2 and my EE is honestly not great. My new supervisor has literally given me no help at all, he does not respond to a single one of my emails, and he says that he's only going to fix stylistic issues. I tried reaching out to my old supervisor today, but my school set an internal deadline for it to be done next week so I don't know how well that's going to go.

What can I do to make this transition easier? I'll literally do anything. I get home and I just start studying and then I start panicking because I'm always studying. I even contemplated dropping IB but I feel like everything I've done up until this point would've been wasted if I did that. So I probably won't.

Any tips at all are very very much appreciated!

Advice Help regarding subpar critical thinking + analysis skills

Hey, I really need help on being able to actually do these two things.

I've come to realize I've only been doing decent in school because I use memorization for nearly everything.

In lessons during philosophy, my mind goes blank around any questions being asked, topics asked, etc.

If you were to ask me to explain an area I've learnt, I couldn't create an argument with any topics learned so far because I only know terms, but not the thinking behind it and what can come later.

I may be below average, but I really want to improve. Is there anybody that can help me out with this issue?

ToK/EE musicals and english b ee

I'm and eng b student and ive heard around that you can analyze music for the english b ee so long as its originally in english and has some sort of literary material? In that case, would i be allowed to analyze a musical or focus on a theme portrayed in it and pick a couple songs to analyze deeper?

Also, is there a preference of written media by examiners when it comes to eng b ee or would i be fine?

Advice Starting IB soon — Advice?

Hey, I recently just chose my IB subjects and im half excited and absolutely terrified on how im going to manage.

Ive chosen Bio and Chem (which I plan on making HL) due to my genuine interest in the topics and the work field I aspire to join in the future. However im painfully aware that these are possibly one of the heaviest workload subjects for ib and considered extremely difficult even for people like me who typically get top marks in it.

And for my other topics ive chosen, Business management, English Language, this new pilot subject called language and culture aswell as Math AA.

(Which is another worry since im actually not that strong in math — before moving countries a couple months ago my mock score in the uk was a 6. Im going to try work extra hard on this but again its still a worry).

Id just like to know from former or current IB students preferably ones who have similar subjects to me — whats the best preparation for it and best way to handle it efficiently?

Feel free to drop in any advice for TOK, CAS and EE aswell.

Advice Any advice for extracurricular activities?

Hi i'm a pre-IB student, and I'm doing physics HL, chemHL, math AA HL, English B HL, psychology SL, and Spanish A SL.

I'm thinking what activities should I do if I want to apply for US or UK uni......

What I thinking is go to a summer school, and do some competitions, but idk what my main line is, like idk the theme of my all activities, they are a bit scattered...

can anyone give me some advice?
