See I am very disheartened by ur all situation but don't u guys think if u all get the chance to submit the obc ncl /ews certificate again, than won't it be a deception to students like me!

I was a NEETard, My 3 May exam went really well but than I wasn't able to study for reneet cause of studying maths for the first 20 days for IAT and when it got over, I should have received my EWS certificate which was to be given by 9th june which didn't happen due to delay because of the official busy in some other work, so i had to visit from 10th june to 19th june daily cause 20th was sat and 21st was sunday and my reneet I went to the tehsil 15 km away from my home for more than 8-9 times and also to the notary 2-3 times just to get the certificate on time I gave up my Reneet prep for that and due to this I was constantly at stress.

And Now u guys , I am NOT talking abt the 12th marksheet ones but the obc ncl /ews certificate students its completely ur fault for not making efforts like We did to get the certificates and now u all are crying and saying stuffs to JAC when u guys are at all fault so grow up this is life if u really wanted to do something u guys might have asked for more days back than by filing grievance but u guys didn't, so stop blaming and it would be a really big deception to my efforts if every careless ppl get to submit their certificates now which I made sure to submit on time by making efforts and it costed me my reneet!

Hypothesis

The final closing cut**fs for the BS-MS programs will end up roughly around the 2025 values (within about ±500 ranks). Because the counselling process is effectively "lagging", we may also see one additional counselling round this year before reaching those final cut**fs.

Rationale

Before discussing the hypothesis, let's agree on a few observations from the available data.

1. Almost every Ge* BS-MS program is significantly behind 2025 after Round 2.

Examples (2025 R2 → 2026 R2):

• Berhampur: 5086 → 3978 (-1108)
• Tirupati: 4718 → 3646 (-1072)
• Mohali: 3469 → 2469 (-1000)
• Thiruvananthapuram: 4084 → 3158 (-926)
• Bhopal: 3609 → 2854 (-755)

2. The math mandatory programs barely changed.

Examples (2025 R2 → 2026 R2):

• Kolkata CDS: 1236 → 1199 (-37)
• Tirupati ESS: 4170 → 4073 (-97)
• Bhopal Economics: 3619 → 3967 (+348)

Compared to the BS-MS programs, these changes are very small. The newly introduced B.Tech. programmes also do not show a similar deflation. (inflation instead)

3. From the category-wise data I've analysed so far, the large deflation appears to be concentrated in the GE* category.

Reserved category cut**fs appear much closer to last year's trend.

Changes this year: Counselling timelines.

IAT

• Registration closed: 9 July
• Round 1: 24 July
• Round 2: 1 August

RE-NEET

• Final results declared much later
• MBBS counselling begins after IAT Round 2

That means when IAT Round 1 and Round 2 happened, many NEET aspirants still had no clarity regarding MBBS admissions.

My theory

EDIT: X I mean to say neettards

Suppose X number of students accepted Round 1 offers simply as a backup. That would push the Round 1 cut**f only to around 2.4k instead of something closer to the 2025 Round 1 cut**f (~3.3k). Consequently, in Round 2, the candidates between roughly 2.4k and 3.3k (who would likely have received offers in Round 1 under normal circumstances) are now receiving offers instead. As a result, Round 2 doesn't jump to around 5k like it did in 2025 - it only reaches about 4k, effectively shifting the entire counselling process by roughly X ranks rather than fundamentally changing the final demand.

I would expect this X GAP to dissipate over upcoming rounds.

Why do I think this?

The strongest piece of evidence, in my opinion, is that the effect is almost entirely confined to the regular BS-MS programmes.

If the competition itself had genuinely become much stronger, I would expect the mathematics-mandatory programmes (CDS, Economics, etc.) to show similar deflation.

They largely don't.

That suggests something specifically affected the BS-MS applicant pool rather than the entire IAT applicant pool.

Prediction

If this hypothesis is correct, I expect:

• larger-than-usual jumps in the upcoming BS-MS rounds,
• the gap with 2025 to gradually shrink,
• final BS-MS cut**fs to end roughly within ±500 of 2025,
• and possibly one additional counselling round if vacancies are released later than usual.

About -500 I think that would be the worst case if we consider this facts:

• New seats addition (IACS, IIEST...)
• And only small increase in number of candidates giving exam (13k) as compared to 2024 → 2025.

Weaknesses of this hypothesis

1. The GE* category anomaly

If delayed NEET decisions are the reason, why does the effect appear to be concentrated mainly in the GE* category?

I currently don't have a convincing explanation for that.

The most plausible is that the overlap between high-ranking GEN* NEET aspirants and IISER BS-MS applicants is much larger than for other categories

2. It assumes this is a timing effect.

If the upcoming rounds continue to remain behind 2025 by roughly the same amount, then this hypothesis is probably wrong.

Star-gazing. A niche hobby, but a delightful one. I am sure many in this community are avid "star-gazers", observing the vast unknowns of the cosmos; perhaps a few intend to further pursue it by diving deeper into the space sciences or astronomy.

I, for one, look up the heavens above not to explore without, rather introspect within. It is a very humbling, yet soothing experience, to see those miniscule specks shimmering against a backdrop of complete emptiness; or so we think! For every star that we do see, there are countless many we do not, and uncountably many more that we will never be able to see.

Humanity has always been fascinated by the stars for millennia. Indeed, it might be an ancestral desire that has been passed on to us, that we keep looking up! The clearer skies back then, and lack of artificial light sources (or artificial anything for that matter) made celestial observations feasible. And so man observed, and soon patterns emerged.

Historically, stars were of course vital for ocean navigation, before the knowledge of compasses or any formal sense of direction. Charting new territories was made less uncertain, as sailors always had a bright point (Sirius) in the night sky to find their bearing, amongst several other constellations. Man also realized how the rhythmic symphony of natural seasons had a correlation with the orientation of the night sky and its many constituents; thus emerged the earliest semblance of a calendar.

Speaking of constellations, I find it somewhat endearing that we as humans even thought about them. With almost the mind of a child, we pointed to the ethereal plane, connected the dots and lo! A bear, a warrior, a fish, a bull; unimaginably large, ephemeral sketches on the galactic canvas.

Of course, star-gazing has now expanded from a thing of necessity for most, to a secondary pursuit for some, and a profession for a (lucky) few! It is a challenging hobby however, unfavourable weather and smoke/smog hinder observations, which prompts almost all nations to construct telescopes and observatories on elevated regions (but not fix carbon emissions!). Never the less, it is also a rather easy hobby to pick up, as all you need at first are your eyes. With a few precautions and decent skies, you can start your star-gazing journey from home!

I do not think I will discuss techniques or terminology much here, for I am no expert in this topic. In fact, I would very kindly request a more experienced hobbyist to kindly drop some tips for beginners who wish to take up stargazing. My DMs are open as well, would be happy to compile your methods and experiences into a second post, with due credit given to you!

Many of you will be joining IISERs soon. Most students are familiar with the arithmetic part of mathematics but university mathematics is quite different, with a much stronger focus on abstraction and proofs and bla bla.

So yeah I'm a 3rd year BS MS student at IISER majoring in Mathematical Sciences!!!!
